Becoming Familiar With Qualitative Research
No full textQualitative research is a field of study that deals with exploring, describing, and interpreting the innate quality of entities and the social processes. In the recent past, an extensive growth in qualitative field of research has been witnessed, particularly in the occupational settings. It is a dynamic and exhilarating area that seeks to explain the research observations by means of insights which are hard to produce with quantitative methods. Most of the work is concerned with developing a theory (i.e., an inductive way to find out new solutions or identify new questions related to social being). In this chapter, the author has targeted the segment which is mostly the students pursuing research courses or conducting empirical work; the faculties and the mangers who are handling the diversity of the social beings at their workplaces, whose varied needs are persistently evolving, would be able to understand the notion of technique which is qualitative in nature. Certain studies conducted in past and present have also been illustrated to maintain the reader's interest. </jats:p

No full textFlashback is a technique that is the confluence of the past and present thinking of any poet or writer. In this, the author combines past events and recent observations and presents them to the reader by carving them with words. Throughout this process, the writer also uses tactics such as comparison with the foreground, his imagination passes through the past. In short, imagination is the force that can be echoed in all times in the form of flashbacks and flash forwards. As far as travelogue is concerned, a travel reporter travels through the past and the present, mixing his personal feelings and experiences during the journey, combining his personal emotions and impressions and the high flight of imagination. In such a situation, where the experiences of civilization come to the fore, the internal feelings of the travel reporter are also expressed. Dr.M. Altaf Yousafzai's travelogue ”تھائی لینڈ کے رنگ“ is not only a beautiful addition to modern travelogue, but in it, only the colors of culture but many colors of the author's self are seen around in the form of flashbacks.
Clear cell carcinoma of ovary with associated mucinous cystadenoma and endometriosis
Get PDFA 45 year old woman presented with right sided ovarian mass with multiple omental deposits and liver metastases. The right ovary was enlarged and showed a partly cystic partly solid cut surface. Histological picture showed clear cell carcinoma with areas of mucinous cystadenoma and endometriosis. Clear cell carcinoma is known to be associated with endometriosis. To the best of author\u27s knowledge, it\u27s association with mucinous cystadenoma has been described only once in the literature, where clear cell carcinoma was shown to be associated with mucinous cystadenoma without any evidence of endometriosis
Informing HIV social care service design through participatory zine making

Arguably, a need for new graphic materials has arisen in the wake of medical advancement, to accurately reflect contemporaneous experiences of living with HIV. As HIV discourse pursues ‘future-oriented’ narratives (Namiba et al. 2016) in order to move past cyclical descriptions of HIV stigma, it is crucial to generate new materials from which to draw upon. This is especially true for underrepresented groups, such as women living with HIV, for whom there is little historical visual documentation.
We utilised participatory design methods to investigate how a group of women living with HIV in the UK conceptualised and visually expressed their experiences of peer support services through zine making. Weekly workshops were conducted over five weeks with nine members of a peer support group in the North East of England, hosted by a local charity.
The workshops were facilitated by two staff members of the charity and led by a designer-researcher (the first author). Using a method informed by Wizinsky’s translational model of design research (2019) and the participatory empirical graphic design approach of Bennett et al (2006), the workshops resulted in the production of a 24-page zine, and themes associated with strengths gained through peer support.
We make two contributions to Design4Health. Firstly, we illustrate the experiences of the ‘time’ theme using language, visual metaphors, and narrative structures. Secondly, from a methodological perspective, we explore the role of the designerresearcher at various stages to inform our understanding of meaningful participant involvement. International Partnerships: Sustainable Development Goal 17 and the Role of Nonprofits: A Case Study on the International Alliance for the Prevention of AIDS
No full textabstract: A nonprofit organization’s ability to help its target population depends strongly on the collaboration of the organization’s staff and leadership. An organization that spans across international borders must overcome adversity, particularly communication and power inequity. The International Alliance for the Prevention of AIDS (IAPA) is a nonprofit with staff in the U.S. and India, making it an international partnership. This research evaluates to what extent the Indian partners believe IAPA meets Sustainable Development Goal 17: “to revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.” I developed three semi-structured interview protocols for volunteers, employees, and IAPA beneficiaries. After interviews were conducted and transcribed, 5 major themes were identified from coding keywords. First, I grouped definitions of "success" in a partnership to create a baseline of expectations. Second, I assessed the extent of participants' knowledge about the U.S. role in IAPA. Third, I identified areas of strength. Fourth, I identified areas of improvement and grievances. Fifth, I assessed the Indian partners' views on mutualism within IAPA. Results indicated that participants believed communication, cooperation, and respect were traits of a successful partnership. The participants believe IAPA mostly exhibit these values, but that the U.S. role as a decision maker can hinder these. They desire more transparency but overall believe IAPA is beneficial and mutualistic. These findings can be furthered by assessing U.S. staff and board member perceptions of the partnership. By continuously investigating the state of international partnerships, we can learn more about how to create sustainable models for the future

No full textLiposarcoma is the most common sarcoma of the soft tissues in adults, accounting for 10% to 18% of all soft tissue sarcomas in different series. Liposarcoma is most frequently found in the extremities and the retroperitoneum. Its occurrence in head and neck is rare. Head and neck liposarcomas account for between 3% and 5.6% of all liposarcomas. Laryngeal and hypopharyngeal liposarcomas are exceedingly rare; to the best of our knowledge, there are fewer than 40 well-documented cases reported to date. We present a case of a 60-year-old woman with a history of hoarseness and dysphagia. Direct laryngoscopy showed a polypoid growth on the right vocal cord. Biopsy of the laryngeal mass was performed and submitted for histologic examination, which was consistent with round cell liposarcoma
