Protective and curative role of L-ascorbic acid on endosulfan induced histopathological changes in the gill of an experimental model, the fresh water bivalve, Parreysia cylindrica
MELIORATING EFFECT OF L-ASCORBIC ACID ON PROFENOFOS INDUCED ALTERATIONS IN THE PROTEIN CONTENTS OF THE FRESHWATER BIVALVE, LAMELLIDENS MARGINALIS (LAMARCK)
The freshwater bivalve Lamellidens marginalis were exposed to chronic dose of Profenofos, 0.6191 ppm (LC50/ 10) alone and in combination with 50mg/L L-ascorbic acid for 21 days. Percent protein contents in the mantle, foot, gill, digestive glands and whole body of control bivalve, Lamellidens marginalis were 41.76±1.50, 60.49±1.30, 51.52±0.62, 47.52±0.53 and 57.14± 1.88 respectively. Percent protein contents in the mantle, foot, gill, digestive glands and whole body of bivalve, Lamellidens marginalis on Profenofos intoxication were 21.98±2.54 (p<0.001),41.48±1.87 (p<0.01), 22.78±2.04 (p<0.01),16.68±1.03 (p<0.05) and 30.77± 2.09 (p<0.01) respectively. Percent protein contents in the mantle, foot, gill, digestive glands and whole body of bivalve, Lamellidens marginalis on exposure to Profenofos with 50mg/L L-ascorbic acid were 30.77±2.04 (p<0.001), 45.24±1.45 (p<0.01), 29.96±1.25 (p<0.001), 32.23±1.52 (p<0.05) and 35.56± 1.94 (p<0.01) respectively. Protein contents in the mantle, foot, gill, digestive glands and whole body of profenophos and Profenophos with 50mg/L L-ascorbic acid exposed bivalve, Lamellidens marginalis showed remarkable decrease in protein content as compared to control. The higher depletion of protein was observed in digestive glands as compared to other tissues. Exposure to pesticide Profenofos in combination with 50 mg/L of L-ascorbic acid showed considerable reduction in the depletion of protein levels. The pre-exposed bivalves for 21 days exposure to chronic dose of Profenofos showed recovery in normal water and the protein contents were increased to 28.16±0.5 (p<0.001), in mantle, 48.56±0.23 (p<0.01), in foot, 30.27±0.45 (p<0.001), in gill, 24.77±0.24 (p<0.001), in digestive glands and 43.96±2.05 (p<0.001), in whole body while percent protein contents in presence of 50mg/L of L-ascorbic acid were increased to 34.63±1.82 (p<0.01), in mantle, 57.15±2.24 (p<0.01), in foot, 39.42±0.46(p<0.01), in gill, 30.16±0.79 (p<0.05), in digestive glands and 52.04±0.45 (p<0.001), in whole body. Fast recovery of percent protein contents was observed in presence of L-ascorbic acid than the recovery in the normal freshwater. This study indicates the protective and curative property of the L- ascorbic acid against the Profenofos induced damage

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. In-vitro antibacterial activity of Fosfomycin and Nitrofurantoin against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii against clinical isolates collected from Indian tertiary care hospitals
The remarkable increase in resistance to currently available antibiotics to Gram-negative pathogens particularly multidrug resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii, This has resulted in increasing use of older under evaluated antibiotics such as fosfomycin, nitrofurantoin, and Trimethoprime-Sulfamethoxazole for the treatment of infections caused by MDR pathogens. However, limited in-vitro pharmacodynamic data for fosfomycin and nitrofurantoin against Pseudomonas Spp., and Acinetobacter Spp., is available in literature. The current study demonstrates in-vitro activities of fosfomycin and nitrofurantoin against Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter pathogens (425 Pseudomonas Spp., and 352 Acinetobacter Spp., Total: 777 Strains), isolated from Indian tertiary care hospitals. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC50/90) of fosfomycin and nitrofurantoin along with comparator antibiotics were determined using Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute recommended agar dilution method. Fosfomycin demonstrated excellent in-vitro activity against Pseudomonas while in nitrofurantoin demonstrated poor activity against Pseudomonas Spp.,. Fosfomycin and nitrofurantoin did not show promising activities against Acinetobacter Spp.,. By applying E. coli breakpoints, the susceptibility rates of fosfomycin for Pseudomonas Spp., and Acinetobacter Spp., were 72.4%, and 14.8%, respectively. By applying respective breakpoints, the susceptibility rates of comparator drugs, including imipenem and meropenem, were lower than fosfomycin. Susceptibility rate of nitrofurantoin for Pseudomonas Spp., and Acinetobacter Spp., was <1.2% suggesting its poor activity. The susceptibility rate of fosfomycin was > 70% for Pseudomonas isolates, including strains expressing carbapenemases is encouraging finding and supports its potential use. Nitrofurantoin did not show activity against both the Spp., with susceptibility rates <1.2%.
