Animations in medical education: You can do it!
Introduction: Animations are the best suited to convey and create an impact of an idea or concept in media business. Animations are sequential frames of pictures shown across this fourth dimension, namely "time." Cartoons are the best examples of animations; needless to say, animations grab the attentions of every one. Animations can also be effectively used in medical education especially in teaching human embryology. It communicates of a concept of three-dimensional structures against one more dimension, namely time. However, to create a module of animation, knowledge, and operative skills of animation software like Flash® , Author ware® , Macromedia® or other high-ended software is necessary. Aim: To design simple, user-friendly and easy to make an effective animation using one of the office tools of Windows® , Power Point® . Materials and Methods: A personal computer with following configuration was used. Pentium III processor with 1.3 Gz speed, 40 GB HDD, 128 MB RAM, with multimedia kit, key pad, and scroll mouse was used. Programs used were Power Point® and MS Paint® . A screen play of sequences of diagrams was written. Frames consisting of diagrams of stages of development were drawn in MS Paint® , and were pasted in PowerPoint slides and animation tool was applied. Previewing was done at every stage. Results: Stages of development of storyboard have been shown as print screen images, 1-6. Conclusion: Emphasis is that such simple animations can be easily made. It is cheap and does not require any sophisticated software. However, it is time consuming but can be taken up as phased assignments or can be given as undergraduate student projects. This will certainly help to build teaching material in the department
FunMaths / Teh Sok Hoon
Over the past two decades electronic game have become ingrained in our culture Children's fixation with these games initially alarmed parents and educators, but educational researchers soon questioned whether the motivation to play could be tapped and harnessed for educational purposes. A number of educational electronic games have been developed and theory success has been mixed. Thus, I have chosen my thesis title as " Interactive Multimedia Educational Game" which we have name it as Kids Heaven and I will develop an educational gamer for mathematics which I name it as FunMaths while my partner will be doing about Science, FunScience. This Game was created in CD-Rom based and will be suitable for students in primary school especially age between 7 and 12, parents and teacher and will only include questions based on Mathematics operations for not more than three digits. Users will be able to choose the level of difficulties. One of the objectives of this game is to help teachers in teaching mathematics in English and to help the students to understand more about the subject. The system implements the concepts of multimedia, which integrates text, graphics, animations and audio into the game display to make the game more attractive especially for the kids. Macromedia Author ware 6, Macromedia Flash MX, Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and some other tools was used to develop the interactive game. Finally, I hope the "Multimedia Interactive Educational Game" can serve to enable players enjoy themselves throughout the playing and learning process, and to achieve the objective specified before the system is develop
An Observational study on Siddha Diagnostic Tool Maruthuva Jothidhaviyal for Paandu Noi
The author ware interested to select this topic because nowadays most of the people with weight loss, poor appetite and fatigue are developing more complications. So the author shows this topic to a siddha faculty, he gave more information to the author about the disease. Then this topic is submitted to the screening committee members and got approved from them as well as from the IEC committee members later. The aim of this study is to evaluate the significance of the disease paandu Noi (anemia) with help of siddha diagnostic parameters Maruthuva jothidaviyal and Ennvagaithervu.
❖ The author has selected the case for Paandu Noi in the outpatient department of post graduate Noi Naadal at Aringnar Anna Government hospital attached with Indian medicine and Homoeopathy (AAGHIM), Chennai - 106.
❖ For the clinical study out of 40 sample (20 cases and 20 contrl) (OPD) were for the observational per the inclusion and exclusion criteria and the informed consent were obtained from the patients. Case sheet proforma were maintained for 40 cases. The author took the study in his OPD under the guidance of guide and other faculties. Laboratory investigations also were carried out during the study.
❖ Maruththuva Jothidaviyal, Ennvagaithervu, of the patients were evaluated in the study.
❖ In this study, following data were observed and discussed for the 40 cases.
Among 40 cases,
➢ Females are more prone to get paandu than males according to my studies, Females were affected with 80%.
➢ In age distribution, 40% of cases were between 21 and 30 years old.
➢ Higher incidence of cases 50%were noted among poverty economic status of patients.
➢ So majority of cases symptoms White sclera and conjunctiva (100%); weakness (90%); Pallor of tongue skin and nail buds (85%); Weight loss and Poor appetite (70%).
➢ 20% male cases had hemoglobin level ranging between 11 and 12.5 mg\dl.
➢ 80% female cases had hemoglobin level ranging between 6 and 11 mg\dl.
➢ 70% of cases were moderate and 20% of cases were mild, 10% of cases were severe.
➢ 90% of cases had position of sukkiran in 3rd,4th ,6th 12th bhavagam. 10% of cases in 3rd bhavagam, 40% of cases sukkiran in 6th bhavagam, 30% of cases in 8th bhavagam, 10 % of cases in 12th bhavagam.
➢ Whereas in control group, 20% had position of sukkiran in 3rd, 4th, 6th 12th bhavagam.
➢ 75% of cases had Vazhi Azhal Naadi
➢ On examination of urine, Volume of urine was found to be reduced among many cases. On Neikuri examination 75% of cases had VazhiAzhal kutram.
CONCLUSION
From this study, the cases of Paandu Noi were examined through Maruthuva Jothidaviyal, Enn vagai thaervu and also with parallel modern diagnosis.
❖ The data were also collected from control group of people as a comparative group. This study would be helpful for the future reference and low cost effective to diagnose the Paandu Noi (Anaemia).
❖ This study exhibits the significance of Maruthuva Jothidaviyal in diagnosing diseases. Hence from this study, we conclude that presence of Sukkiran at 3rd, 6th, 8th ,12th Bhavagam in Birth chart may leads to highest probability of Paandu Noi.
❖ This tool also useful in earlier interpretation among risk population and may reduce the complications. But this tool cannot be used as a separate tool for diagnosing the diseases. This could be used along with other diagnosing parameters.
❖ This study will be useful in the diagnosis Paandu noi and provide a lead to carry out further researches among large populations. It may encourage the future siddha physicians to rule out the diseases with the siddha diagnostic parameter itself.
❖ By diagnosing the disease it helps to treat by choosing medicines and helpful in noticing the prognosis of the disease. It shows the way of development of the Siddha medicine in diagnostic aspects
