ABSTRACT
Wardhani, Novia Ayu.2019. The effect of using wattpad on eleventh grade students’ writing ability at SMAN 1 Mumbulsarii in 2019/2020 Academic Year.Thesis. English Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University of Jember. Advisor: (1) Fitrotul Mufaridah, M.Pd (2) Indah Werdiningsih,M.Pd
. Key words: Writing Ability, Wattpad
Writing is one of the productive language skills. Writing is an activity to communicate one’s idea by using letters, words, phrases, and clauses to from a series of related sentences. This definition shows that writing is conveying a message through a written text. In other words, writing is a communication between a writer and a reader with the use of printed symbols. In fact, is not easy for students’ to write a story using english. The students difficult to find ideas but they need to be creative in using vocabulary in order to create narrative text. The students also felt confused to choose the topic to write. Furthermore, the impact of lacking of ideas can make the students less-enthusiastic. Many of them were afraid of making mistakes in their writing.
In this research the problem is “Is there any significant effect of using Wattpad on eleventh grade students’ writing ability of SMAN 1 Mumbulsari in the 2019/2020 academic year?”
The design of this research is experimental research, the design of this research was quasi experimental with the pretest and posttest design. The subject is the eleventh grade which consist of 40 students, the data collecting by using writing test using wattpad on narrative text.
Two classes is used as experimental and control group after calculation by using SPSS the result of the Independent Samples Test, the Sig. (2- tailed) is 0,001 and less than 0.05 (0.001 < 0.05) it means the Null Hypothesis (H0) is rejected. So, Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted then the result is there is significant difference in students’ wattpad ability using wattpad on narrative text between the students who were taught using wattpad on narrative text.
There is significant effect on students’ writing ability of using wattpad in experimental group. It can be concluded that teaching writing of using wattpad on narrative has significant effect in form of students’ writing ability of the eleventh grade students at SMAN 1 Mumbulsari in the 2019/2020 academic year
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
The Effect Of Silent Way Method On Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Of The Second Grade Students At Smp Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru
The aim of this research is to know a significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery by using silent way method between experimental class and control class. The silent way method is a way of teaching like a teacher who is more silent but the teacher gives more movements and pictures to make students active. Problems of the research are as in following: their have difficulty memorizing new words, their feel bored to follow the teaching learning process and they regard English as a difficult subject, and their lack of vocabulary, so by using silent way method the researcher wants to find out whether is a significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery after using silent way method. This research design in this research is an experimental research. It consist of two classes, VIII.4 as the experimental class and VIII.2 as a control class by doing pre-test and post-test for each class. In this research, the instrument is a vocabulary test. The population of this research of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru, there are six classes. The researcher takes only two classes as experimental class and control class. The researcher used statistical analysis to find out the effect of silent way method on students’ vocabulary mastery of second grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru. The research findings showed that there was not a difference in the increase in vocabulary mastery between students in class VIII.4 after being taught by using silent way method and students in VIII.2 taught without silent way method. It could be seen from the average of pre-test of VIII.4 is 71.55 and posttest is 75.52. Therefore, the mean score of the students’ vocabulary mastery has improved as much as 3.97 point. . Although there are some students that achieved the score above the minimum standard, the mean score of the total students was still considered as low. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. So, there is no significant effect between experimental class and control class by using the silent way method on students’ vocabulary mastery of the second grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru
