Titulaire d’un doctorat en histoire de l’éducation et en éducation comparée de l’Université de Pennsylvanie, il a travaillé pour le Département d’État des États-Unis pendant trente ans, de 1972 à 2002. Durant cette période, il a fait partie de la délégation permanente des États-Unis à l’UNESCO à Paris, jusqu’à ce que le pays se retire de l’organisation en 1984. Il est alors devenu le responsable pour les dossiers de l’UNESCO au Département d’État à Washington jusqu’à son retrait de la fonction publique fédérale en 2002. Il est ensuite devenu conseiller principal de la Fondation des Nations Unies, travaillant en étroite collaboration avec le Centre du patrimoine mondial afin de poursuivre l’un des objectifs majeurs de la Fondation, à savoir la préservation de la biodiversité.
Tout au long de sa carrière, Ray Wanner a nourri un grand intérêt pour les systèmes d’éducation internationaux, en publiant plusieurs articles sur le sujet et en s’engageant activement dans le travail de l’Institut international de planification de l’éducation (IIPE), duquel il a été président. Il est également membre émérite du conseil d’administration de l’organisme Americans for UNESCO. En 2015, il a publié UNESCO’s Origins, Achievements, Problems and Promise: An Inside/Outside Perspective from the US (Comparative Education Research Centre, Université de Hong Kong). Ray Wanner a reçu le Career Achievement Award du Secrétaire d’État et la médaille pour les droits de l’homme de l’UNESCO pour son engagement envers la coopération intellectuelle internationale.
Les extraits audio suivants sont issus d’une entrevue menée avec Ray Wanner par Christina Cameron en mai 2011 à Springfield, Virginie. Ayant assisté à près d’une vingtaine de sessions du Comité durant sa carrière, il relate plusieurs moments marquants de l’histoire de la Convention selon la perspective des États-Unis, notamment l’inscription du Mémorial de la paix d’Hiroshima ou les efforts déployés à Yellowstone contre l’exploitation minière. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
