Structure-based design of 7-carbamate analogs of geldanamycin
The 7-carbamate groups of geldanamycin and its 17-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)amino-17-demethoxy derivative (17-DMAG) bind the N-terminal domain of Hsp90 by establishing a network of hydrogen bonds which involve four buried water molecules. In this study, a structure-based approach was used to investigate the effects of displacing some of these waters by modification of the 7-carbamate. A general loss of binding to human Hsp90 was observed, except for replacement of the carbamate with a hydroxamate group which gave an analog with weak activity. Modeling of Hsp90-ligand interactions suggested that the hydroxamate was not able to displace the buried water molecules, while bulkier substituents able to do so proved inactive
Sasajiscymnus pseudoamplus Tong & Wang, sp. nov.
Sasajiscymnus pseudoamplus Tong & Wang sp. nov. (Figs 48, 75) Chinese name: fflkḧ瓢• Diagnosis. This species closely resembles S. amplus (Yang & Wu, 1972), but can be distinguished from the later by its penis guide approximately parallel sided for basal 1/ 2 in ventral view (Fig. 48g). In S. amplus, penis guide is widest at base in ventral view (Fig. 47g). Description. TL: 2.60–3.56 mm, TW: 1.95–2.70 mm, TH: 1.27–1.48 mm. Body oval, moderately convex, surfaces covered with short pubescence (Figs 48a–c). Head yellowish brown, with interocular distance distinctly greater than eye width in frontal view. Pronotum yellowish brown with a large black spot at base. Scutellar shield black. Elytra black with yellowish brown apices. Ventral surfaces yellowish brown to black. Legs yellowish brown. Abdominal postcoxal lines incomplete, recurved toward the base of ventrite (Fig. 48d). Male genitalia: Penis long and slender, penis capsule with inconspicuous outer arm and long inner one, apex of penis pointed (Figs 48e–f). Penis guide long and slender in lateral view, arcuate and gradually narrowing to pointed apex; parameres about 1/8 as long as penis guide, with a tuft of long setae at apex; Penis guide approximately parallel sided for basal 1/2 in ventral view, then gradually narrowing to blunt apex (Figs 48g–h). Female genitalia: Coxites shaped board plates; styli absent; spermatheca worm-like, with basal ramus and nodulus. Type material. 1ST-PRINCIPLES CALCULATIONS FOR QUASI-PARTICLE ENERGIES OF GAP AND GAAS
We have applied the Green-function method in the GW approximation to calculate quasiparticle energies for the semiconductors GaP and GaAs. Good agreement between the calculated excitation energies and the experimental results was achieved. We obtained calculated direct band gaps of GaP and GaAs of 2.93 and 1.42 eV, respectively, in comparison with the experimental values of 2.90 and 1.52 eV, respectively. An ab initio pseudopotential method has been used to generate basis wave functions and charge densities for calculating the dielectric matrix elements and self-enegies. To evaluate the dynamical effects of the screened interaction, the generalized-plasma-pole model has been utilized to extend the dielectric matrix elements from static results to finite frequencies. We presen the calculated quasiparticle energies at various high-symmetry points of the Brillouin zone and compare them with the experimental results and other calculations
Extremum principle of crystal plasticity
An analytical method for determining slip shear rate under prescribed stress rate or prescribed strain rate has been presented on the basis of the incremental theory of crystal plasticity. The problem has been reduced to a quadric convex programming.In order to analyse the plastic response of crystals subjected to external load, two new extremum principles are proposed. They are equivalent to the boundary-value problem of crystal plasticity.
