The notion of practicality in Wang Yang -ming\u27s thought
Previous studies on Wang Yang-ming\u27s philosophy have made an important contribution. Nevertheless, few scholars draw attention to Wang Yang-ming\u27s contribution to Confucian practicality or the notion of the inner connection between his practicality and Confucius\u27 and Mencius\u27 orientation of practicality in their learning. Without a close examination of his notion of practicality, the significance of Wang Yang-ming as a Confucian master will not be appreciated properly. Therefore, in this research, I examine Wang Yang-ming\u27s notion of practicality in relation to his interpretation of the learning of Confucius and Mencius. In my research, I begin with clarifying the learning of Confucius and Mencius necessitated actual action and concrete practice. I also find that such an orientation of practicality gives an explanation to the fact that Wang Yang-ming, however contrary to Chu Hsi, still is regarded as a Confucian master. It is the orientation of practicality that embraces the diversities of Confucian learning and keeps the essence of the learning of Confucius and Mencius. Through my investigation, I have pointed out that Wang Yang-ming\u27s advocating the unity of knowledge and action was his successful application of Confucian practicality, that, also, is, the learning of Confucius and Mencius. Since the realization of humanity required the fulfillment of one\u27s various responsibilities, corresponding to various social roles, Wang Yang-ming underscored that, to completely realize humanity, one could not separate oneself from family and society. In addition, his doctrine that mind and principle are identical gives a different perspective that can help us better understand the idea of fulfilling our roles in society and responsibilities to family without being confined to the rules and regulations of society which dictate our conduct. With the examination of Wang Yang-ming\u27s notion of practicality, I believe that I have clarified Wang Yang-ming\u27s success of transmitting the practicality-oriented learning of Confucius and Mencius. I am also convinced that his notion of practicality is an important reason why his learning agrees with the learning of Confucius and Mencius, and why he is recognized as a philosopher in action

Wang Yang-ming's Theory of Liang-zhi: A New Interpretation of Wang Yang-ming's Philosophy
The most important term in Wang Yang-ming's 王陽明 (1472-1528) philosophy, ”liang-zhi 良知,” has been interpreted in various different ways. However, these different interpretations have failed to provide a satisfactory understanding of Wang Yang-ming's philosophy. To give a reasonable interpretation of Wang Yang-ming's idea of liang-zhi that coheres with his philosophy, we have to move beyond the approach of mentalism, no matter whether it be of a transcendental or nontranscendental type. In this paper, I elaborate the deep structure of liang-zhi and demonstrate that liang-zhi cannot simply be described as non-empirical, more importantly, I show that it cannot be identified as any kind of knowledge or knowing capacity, enlightenment or enlightening capacity, intellectual intuition or mystical feeling. Liang-zhi is not an epistemic concept in any sense. To treat liangzhi as some kind of knowing faculty or mental capacity is to stray from Wang Yangming's main philosophical train of thought. The major purpose of this paper is to give a new and coherent interpretation of liang-zhi which is consistent with the doctrines of ”xing-ji-qi 性即氣,” ”xin-wai-wuwu/shi 心外無物/事” (no things/events outside the mind), ”xin-wai-wu-li 心外無理” (no orders/principles outside the mind) and ”zhi-xing-he-yi 知行合一” (the unity of enlightenment and action/act). In this paper, I use the concepts of ”realization” and ”supervenience” to explain the relationship between xing and qi, on the one hand, and the relationship between zhi and xing, on the other. Based on this preliminary study, I conclude that Wang Yang-ming viewed all the things/events in the organic universe as being endowed with a (emergent) power or (functional) property of cosmic vitality or universal spirituality, i.e., the (functional) property of sheng-sheng 生生 (the cycling order of natural production). This universal power or property by itself is invisible, without trace, and does not have an independent ontological status. However, the actual function of the power or property can be found in phenomena because certain responsive mental events made by human beings can be recognized as the realization of this power or property. In turn, certain related physical events initiated by human beings can be understood as the bases on which the mental events are supervenient. Based on these two distinct relationships: realization and supervenience, we can elaborate a framework of three layers consisting of the layer of cosmic spirituality, the layer of the mental, and the layer of the physical. This framework of three layers is moreover situated in two domains: the internal domain of the human body and the external domain of human action. Based on this framework of three layers and two domains, I elaborate a theory concerning ”heaven's production” (tian-cheng 天成), or ”accomplishment and assistance in the universal process of production and reproduction,” concluding that it can be understood as an important component of Wang Yang-ming's philosophy
Replication Data for: CCI.net: A Fully Automated Recognition and Quantification System for Fungal Keratitis based on Corneal Confocal Images
Patients diagnosed with FK were enrolled from three cities in China between April 2015 and June 2022. The diagnosis was confirmed either by corneal cultures or corneal biopsy. Patients who were over 65 years old, had systemic diseases such as diabetes, autoimmune diseases, thyroid-related diseases, or were pregnant, were excluded. Patients with bacterial, amebic, or other infections confirmed by culture were also excluded. A total of 355 patients were included, comprising 212 from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center in Guangdong Province, 83 from Xi'an First Hospital in Shanxi Province, and 60 from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region People's Hospital in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
There were 5 licensed ophthalmologists using standard processing12 to grade the image quality. A total of 8697 images were graded as good quality and were further divided into three datasets: a classification dataset (N=7086, including 4255 in the training set, 1413 in the validation set, and 1418 in the test set), a segmentation dataset (N=56, including 46 in the training set and 10 in the test set), and an external validation set (N=1555, including 1455 to validate the classification model and 100 to validate the segmentation model)
The cosmological evolution of the properties of powerful extragalactic radio sources and their environments
Radio galaxies and radio-loud quasars produce powerful collimated gas flows or jets interacting with the gas in their environments. Here we seek to develop a model for the evolution of the jet pa rameters and the properties of their environments during cosmological timescales. Combining the evolutionary model for individual radio sources from Kaiser, Dennett-Thorpe & Alexander (1997) with the Radio Luminosity Function from Willott et al. (2000), we perform multi-dimensional Monte Carlo simulations in order to compile artificial samples. We then compare their statistical properties with those of sources contained in the observed low frequency radio surveys, 3CRR, 6CE and 7CRS. We compare them on the radio luminosity (P) - linear size (D) diagram and use the two-dimensional Kolmogorov-Smimov test to search for the best fitting parameters for each evolutionary model describing the source population as a whole. We find that the environments of radio sources evolve with cosmological time, in the sense that sources at high red shift are located in denser environments. However, we do not find a significant connection between the jet power and the density of the environment.</p
