Data for Magnetization dynamics in synthetic antiferromagnets with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy
The repository contains six .csv files for all raw experimental data for plots, following the order of figure numbers. Data in ‘TR-MOKE signals’ .csv are used to extract frequency, amplitude, phase, and damping shown in Figs. 2,4,5.This repository contains data along with associated output from instrumentation supporting all results reported in Huang, D.; Zhang, D.; Kim, Y; Wang, J.P.; and Wang X. Magnetization dynamics in synthetic antiferromagnets with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Phys. Rev. B., 2023, 107, 214438. The magnetization dynamics of the perpendicular synthetic antiferromagnets (p-SAFs) sample is detected by time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect (TR-MOKE), which is ultrafast-laser-based metrology utilizing a pump-probe configuration. In TR-MOKE, pump laser pulses interact with the sample, initiating magnetization dynamics in magnetic layers via inducing ultrafast thermal demagnetization. The laser-induced heating brings a rapid decrease to the magnetic anisotropy fields and interlayer exchange coupling (IEC), which changes equilibrium direction of magnetization in each layer and initiates the precession. The magnetization dynamics due to pump excitation is detected by a probe beam through MOKE. In our setup, the incident probe beam is normal to the sample surface (polar MOKE); therefore, the Kerr rotation angle (θ_K) of the reflected probe beam is proportional to the z component of the magnetization.National Science Foundation (NSF, CBET-2226579)ERI program (FRANC) “Advanced MTJs for computation in and near random access memory” by DARPAASCENT, one of six centers in JUMP (a Semiconductor Research Corporation program, sponsored by MARCO and DARPA)UMN MRSEC Seed program (NSF, DMR-2011401)UMN 2022–2023 Doctoral Dissertation FellowshipHuang, Dingbin; Zhang, Delin; Kim, Yun; Wang, Jian-Ping; Wang, Xiaojia. An inexact l2-norm penalty method for cardinality constrained portfolio optimization
We analyze and solve a single-period portfolio optimization problem with non-convex constraints, which address practical concerns of investment such as the active share weights of sectors and the number of stocks held in a portfolio. We reformulate the problem to simplify the computation and propose an inexact l2-norm penalty method to solve the problem.</p
Designing a spin-Seebeck diode
Using micromagnetic simulations, we have investigated spin dynamics in a spin-valve bilayer in the presence of a thermal gradient. The direction and the intensity of the gradient allow us to excite the spin wave modes of each layer selectively. This permits us to synchronize the magnetization precession of the two layers and to rectify the flows of energy and magnetization through the system. Our study yields promising opportunities for applications in spin caloritronics and nanophononics devices
Global land system maps at 1 km resolution for 1.5 °C climate
Climate pledges are a key pathway for achieving temperature control but also exert profound cascading effects on the global Earth system. Evaluating such cascading effects often requires land change forecast products. However, current forecast products are all based on shared socioeconomic pathways (SSPs) and representative concentration pathways (RCPs). We proposed a comprehensive approach to generating 2100 land system maps under the 1.5 degrees C climate scenario and the baseline scenario by harmonizing the Global Change Analysis Model (GCAM), Globeland30, and the Land-N2N model. The maps exhibit a spatial resolution of 1 km and consist of 30 land system types, reflecting local high, medium, and low densities of land cover types. Additionally, we evaluated the Land-N2N using the kappa coefficient and figure of merit (FoM). The average kappa coefficient and FoM values across all the basins were 83.14% and 8.48%, respectively, demonstrating the reliability of the Land-N2N model in simulating land system changes. The dataset provides finer resolution quantitative support for global climate change mitigation and essential data for related research.
