Abstract : This Master Thesis is a cultural translation commented from Spanish to Brazilian Portuguese of the tales "En defensa propia", "Los nutrieros", "Losojos del traidor" and "El viaje circular", from the book Cuento para tahúresy otros relatos policiales, written by Rodolfo Jorge Walsh (1927-1977) between 1951 and 1961 and which were published in 1987, 10 years afterhis death. Walsh was one of the most significant Argentine writers of thet wentieth century, which revolutionized the literature of his time, not onlyin social and politic terms but also aesthetics issues. Our corpus consists oftales of the detective genre, this way, we find the best way to get to the source language (Spanish) the characteristics of this genre in the target language (Portuguese). The work presented here contains three chapters: the first being an introductory essay on the construction of Walsh as a writer, emphasizing the cop genre to which the tales, the object of this study belong; aiming to introduce him and his style to Brazilian readers; the second is to work with issues related to the project of translation: translating cultural commentary, which will provide theoretical support for the thirdand final chapter, in which he gives a presentation of the translation made with the submission of comments on the route

A review of the electrodeposition of metal matrix composite coatings by inclusion of particles in a metal layer: an established and diversifying technology
Following a brief overview of their history, which dates back to the 1920s with marked developments during the 1960s and 1970s, the principles of composite coatings, achieved by including particles dispersed in a bath into a growing electrodeposited metal layer, are considered. The principles and role of electroplating compared to other techniques for realising such coatings, are considered. A good quality particle dispersion (often aided by a suitable type and concentration of surfactants) appropriate choice of work-piece shape/geometry and controlled agitation in the bath are seen to be prerequisites for achieving uniform coatings having a well-dispersed particle content by electroplating. Examples are provided to illustrate the influence of bath composition and plating conditions on deposit properties. Engineering applications of included particle composite layers are illustrated by examples of hard ceramic, soft ceramic and polymer inclusion composite coatings from the recent literature. Current trends in the development of composite plated coatings are summarised and their diverse applications are seen to include the use of finely structured (especially nanostructured) and functionally active particles together with hybrid and more complex, e.g. hierarchical, structures for applications ranging from tribology to speciality electronics, magnetic and electrochemical energy conversion materials
Low computational complexity variable block size (VBS) partitioning for motion estimation using the Walsh Hadamard transform (WHT)
Variable Block Size (VBS) based motion estimation has
been adapted in state of the art video coding, such as
H.264/AVC, VC-1. However, a low complexity H.264/AVC
encoder cannot take advantage of VBS due to its power consumption
requirements. In this paper, we present a VBS partition
algorithm based on a binary motion edge map without
either initial motion estimation or Rate-Distortion (R-D)
optimization for selecting modes. The proposed algorithm
uses the Walsh Hadamard Transform (WHT) to create a binary
edge map, which provides a computational complexity
cost effectiveness compared to other light segmentation
methods typically used to detect the required region
