No full textElizabeth Wait is native to South Florida. She is currently a junior in the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida pursuing a B. S. in Biotechnology. She plans on earning a Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience. Elizabeth has been in Dr. Artëm Masunov\u27s computational chemistry lab since the Fall of 2015 studying the effects of supercritical carbon dioxide on important combustion reactions. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Modelling the Delay Distribution of Binary Spray and Wait Routing Protocol
Get PDFHis article proposes a stochastic model to obtain the end-to-end delay law between two nodes of a Delay Tolerant Network (DTN). We focus on the commonly used Binary Spray and Wait (BSW) routing protocol and propose a model that can be applied to homogeneous or heterogeneous networks (i.e. when the inter-contact law parameter takes one or several values). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first model allowing to estimate the delay distribution of Binary Spray and Wait DTN protocol in heterogeneous networks. We first detail the model and propose a set of simulations to validate the theoretical results
Age and fertility: Can we wait until the early 30s?
No full textDelaying the start of childbearing raises the issue of fertility postponed versus fertility foregone. One of the limits of previous studies of "How late can you wait?" is the difficulty of controlling for sexual activity. Data on the frequency and timing of intercourse within a menstrual cycle are uncommon. We use such data from the Menstrual Cycle Fecundability Study to study "Can we wait until the early 30s?". We model the effect of age on conditional fecundability, i.e., the probability of conception given that the couple is not sterile, simultaneously controlling for the effect of primary sterility and the frequency and timing of intercourse in each menstrual cycle. Can we wait until the early 30s for a first birth? Our evidence is yes (providing you are not already sterile) as the increase in the mean waiting time to conception is very modest and of little practical importance
Is watch and wait a safe and effective way to treat rectal cancer in older patients?
No full textAbstract: Introduction The aim was assess the oncological and functional outcome of the watch-and-wait (W&W) approach in older patients with a clinical (near)complete response after neoadjuvant treatment for rectal cancer. Material and methods Patients were included in a W&W-approach (2004\u20132019) when digital rectal examination, endoscopy and MRI showed a (near)clinical complete response. Patients underwent endoscopy and MRI every 3 months during the first year, and 6-monthly thereafter. Patients aged 6575 and\u202f 65\u202f2 years of follow-up (FU) were selected. Oncological outcomes were assessed with Kaplan-Meier curves. Functional outcome was assessed with colostomy-free rate, Vaizey incontinence score, low anterior resection syndrome-score and International Prostate Syndrome Score. Results 43/304 (14%) of patients in a W&W-approach met the inclusion criteria. Median FU was 37 (24\u2013109) months. 5/43(12%) developed a local regrowth. All were treated surgically, with one patient experiencing a pelvic failure. Distant metastases occurred in 3/43 patients and 4 patients died, 3 of whom not related to rectal cancer. The 3-year local regrowth-free rate was 88%, 3-year non-regrowth disease-free survival 91%, overall survival 97% and 3-year colostomy-free rate 93%. Overall, the bowel- and urinary dysfunction scores at 3, 12 and 24 months indicated good continence, no or minor LARS and moderate urinary problems. Conclusion W&W for older patients with a clinical (near) complete response appears to be a safe alternative to a total mesorectal excision (TME), with a very high pelvic control rate, and few rectal cancer related deaths. Most patients can avoid major surgery and a definitive colostomy, and have a reasonable anorectal and urinary function
Pragmatic Case Studies as a Source of Unity in Applied Psychology
No full textTo unify or not to unify applied psychology: that is the question. In this article we review pendulum swings in the historical efforts to answer this question—from a comprehensive, positivist, “top-down,” deductive yes between the 1930s and the early 60s, to a postmodern no since then. A rationale and proposal for a limited, “bottom-up,” inductive yes in applied psychology is then presented, employing a case-based paradigm that integrates both positivist and postmodern themes and components. This paradigm is labeled “pragmatic psychology” and, its specific use of case studies, the “Pragmatic Case Study Method” (“PCS Method”). We call for the creation of peer-reviewed journal-databases of pragmatic case studies as a foundational source of unifying applied knowledge in our discipline. As one example, the potential of the PCS Method for unifying different angles of theoretical regard is illustrated in an area of applied psychology, psychotherapy, via the case of Mrs. B. The article then turns to the broader historical and epistemological arguments for the unifying nature of the PCS Method in both applied and basic psychology.Peer reviewe
