Boersma, Subagus Wahyuono - Cytotoxic effect on human cancer cell using SRB method (in vitro) rimpang temu mangga (Curcuma Mangga Val. & V. Zijp.) dan kunir putih (Curcuma Zedoaria I.). Background: Temu mangga (Curcuma mangga) and kunir putih (Curcuma zedoaria) rhizomes have been utilized by people to treat cancer lately although clinically their activity has not been tested. Objectives: This study is aimed to prove their activity as anticancer on 7 major human cancers cell lines (in vitro), and to evaluate whether these two rhizomes are potential for new anticancer drug. Methods: The two rhizomes were separately extracted with chloroform followed by methanol to give chloroform extracts of C. mangga (CmCh) and C. zedoaria (CzCh)and methanol extracts of C. mangga (CmMe) and C. zedoaria (CzMe) respectively. These extracts were tested their cytotoxic effect on 7 major human cancer cell lines using SRB method (in vitro). Doxorubicin and cisplatin were used as positive controls, and their cytotoxic effects were measured by comparing their ID50 with that of the positive controls. Results: Those four extracts (CmCh, CzCh, CmMe and CzMe) practically did not perform cytotoxic effect on those human cancer cell lines, because the extract\u27s ID50 was far higher than the positive controls on those human, cancers cell lines Conclusion: The C. mangga and C. zedoaria rhizomes did not active as anticancer and they were not pOtential as the source of a new anticancer drug. Puji Astuti, Sylvia Utami Tunjung Pratiwi, Triana Hertiani, Gemini Alam, Akbar Tahir, Subagus Wahyuono - Marine Sponge Jaspis sp, A Potential Bioactive Natural Source against Infectious diseases Background: The high incidence of microbial infection and the emergence of drug resistant and multidrugresistant microbes as well as the lack of any current chemotherapy augmented the necessity to search for new and better antimicrobial drug. Marine invertebrates are known as rich sources of compounds with unique chemical structures and pronounced chemical and biological activities, which suggests potential value as lead structures for the development of new pharmaceuticals. Objective: This study aims to screen potential antiinfective of sponges extracts collected from Barrang Lompo island and report on their antibacterial and antifungal properties. Methods: Testing for anti-infective agents was conducted using dilution method. Nutrient Agar was used as the testing media and nutrient broth for the inoculation of microorganisms. Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coil and Salmonella thypi were used as the testing bacteria and Candida albicans for the testing fungi. Chloramphenicol was used as positive control for antibacterial testing and ketocozaole for antifungal testing. Results: From the 11 acetone extracts tested, BL-02, BL-09, BL-10 and BL-12 was found to inhibit the growth of microorganisms and the extract of BL-10 was found to be the most active. Bioautography results suggest that the polar fractions were responsible for the growth inhibition. Conclusion: the polar fraction of acetone extract of BL-10 was considered to be potential compounds for further characterization as anti infective agents. Kata kuncl: Amsonia grandiflora, makanan ternak, asam betulinat, asam oleanolat. ABSTRACT An indigenous desert plant, Amsonia grandiflora, has a high carbohydrate content and an animal feed nutritive value in-vitro similar to alfalfahowever, this plant is not grazed in the wild. Two triterpene acids were isolated from the dichloromethane extract of A. grandiflora that was insoluble in n-hexane. Based on their infrared, mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra as well as their melting points and optical rotations, the two acids were suspected to be betulinic acid and oleanolic acid. Direct comparison of these two acids with authentic betulinic and oleanolic acid, these acids were confirmed as betulinic acid and oleanolic acid. The high concentrations of oleanolic acid and betulinic acid might impart a sour taste to the plant. This could possibly be the reason that animals in the wild do not grazed this plant. Key words : Amsonia grandiflora, animal feedstocks, betulinic acid, oleanolic acid

ABSTRACT: Kayu angin (Usnea misaminensis (Vain.) Not., fain. Not.J, kandungan utama, densitometr
