Introduction: Congenital heart diseases are serious and common conditions that have significant impact on morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs in children and adults. Objective: To identify the prevalence and pattern of congenital heart diseases in the neonatal unit of Al-Wahda Pediatric Teaching Hospital in Aden, Yemen. Material and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study included all of the newborns at Al-Wahda Pediatric Teaching Hospital, from January 2012 to December 2013 (12987 newborns). Clinical examination, echocardiography and radiography were used for diagnostic and a total of 69 newborns were diagnosed with congenital heart diseases (41 males and 28 females) during the period. Clinical and demographic data were collected from the charts of patients for analysis. Results: The prevalence of congenital heart diseases was 5.3/1000 live births. Ventricular septal defect (39.1%), atrial septal defect (24.1%) and complex congenital heart disease (24.1%) were the more frequent forms. Respiratory distress was the commonest symptom (97.1%) and among the non-cardiac anomalies, Down’s syndrome (10.1%) was predominant. Conclusions: Congenital heart disease is a public health problem among newborns at Al-Wahda Pediatric Teaching Hospital in Aden, being the commonest forms ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect and complex congenital heart disease, in which male predominance is found. Integrated effects from all authorities should be directed to families and doctors for prevention, early diagnosis and proper intervention. Keywords: Congenital, heart disease, prevalence, Aden. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Background: Vaginal birth after caesarean section is one strategy that has been developed to decrease the rate of caesarean section. Methods: The prospective observational study was carried out over a period of 01 January 2017 to 31 December 2018 years. VBAC was routinely offered at Al-Wahda hospital Derna to women fulfilling the criteria for trial of scar, according to the hospital protocol. Results: A total of 5018 deliveries took place in the study duration, there were 1039 (20.7%) had previous one caesarean section, out of which 319 (30.7%) were the number of underwent repeat caesarean section and 720 (69.3%) were the number of VBAC. The indications for emergency repeat caesarean section at Al-Wahda hospital was (29.3%) malpresentation, (24.45%) FD, (13.47) postdate, (11.59) obstracted lab and abruptiopl (5.95%). Anemia and difficult intubation were observed in repeated caesarean section. Conclusions: This study concluded that there is a high chance of success in a trial of labor. These findings might help clinicians and women in the decision-making for the mode of delivery when it comes to pregnancy with a previous caesarean section. Women are explained about the option of trial of scar and told about the risk associated with a repeat CS, so many CSs can be avoided.

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Political parties and social networks in Iraq, 1908-1920

Sakai, Kelko; Political Parties and Social Networks in Iraq, 1908-1920; submitted for M.A. in Faculty of Social Sciences. C.M.E.I.S.; 1994 This study is to analyze the principal patterns of proto-nationalism as they emerged in the anti-colonial movement in the first two decades of twentieth century. The earliest party political activities were based on notions of Arab separatism from the Ottoman Empire and on anti-Western attitudes on the part of some religious Shi'i. On the eve of the award of the mandate for Iraq to Britain, two major political parties were actively opposed to the British occupation, and this opposition found expression in the country-wide uprising in 1920.At this stage Iraqi nationalism, in the sense of both qawmiya and wataniya. was only at a very early stage of development. The popularity and breadth of the uprising was largely due to its being based on a combination of existing social networks, and the way in which it acted as a focus for proto-national and anti-colonial sentiments. Haras al-Istiqlal succeeded in mobilizing 'traditional society' and managed at least in part to overcome tribal, religious, sectarian and urban/ rural differences, especially with a support it attracted from Shi'i "ulama and sada'. al-'Ahd al-'Iraqi. on the other hand, originally established as an 'Arabist' society by former Ottoman officers, also tried to mobilize tribal society, mainly in northern Iraq, after becoming separated from its Syrian- based founders. This caused antagonisms between the organization’s headquarters in Damascus and tribal and other local political forces in Iraq. Both parties attempted to mobilize sentiments which can be described loosely as 'Iraqist'. Although the idea of Iraqi wataniya was still vague in 1920, this early expression of Iraqism as a proto-nationalist force has functioned as a source for reproduction and the imagining of Iraqi national identity

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
