Rezension: "Marie.
Not only teachers ask themselves about the significance of literature for knowledge acquisition; authors also face this question. Verena Wagner skillfully combines considerations of meaning and experiential content in her children’s book “Marie, a Jewish Girl from Linz”. The accompanying booklet, freely available online and developed by political and history education experts Christian Angerer and Jakob Feyerer, provides a didactic implementation of a historical consciousness concept. The tasks and reflection assignments are designed to be both present- and future-oriented

The Institutionalisation of a Creative Practice: Changing Roles of Regional Design in Dutch National Planning
This chapter discusses the organisational setting of regional design in the realms of spatial planning and territorial governance. As a starting point, it argues that rules on how imagined design solutions function in an abstract, simplified ‘planning world’ are an important regional design product. When focusing on these rules, regional design practice resembles discretionary action. As such, it aims to improve planning decisions by judging the implications of planning frameworks when applied to particular situations. This implies that the involvement of actors in design practice requires careful consideration. As in any form of legitimate rule-building, a critical distance between those who initiate practices and conduct design, and those who judge the quality and relevance of design outcomes is essential. On the basis of these considerations the chapter investigates regional design practices that occurred between the 1980s and 2010s in the context of Dutch national planning. It shows how they transformed from being a form of professional advocacy, criticising planning, into a practice that was pragmatically used to implement a national planning agenda. The chapter concludes by discussing this institutionalisation of a creative practice in the Netherlands, reflecting upon the implications of these outcomes for territorial governance in particular.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Spatial Planning and Strateg

The Normative Profile of Agnosticism. Some Case Studies in the Philosophy of Mathematics
In this chapter, we build on Ferrari and Incurvati’s work in The Varieties of Agnosticism, where they use a question-and-answer heuristic to identify various agnostic stances. Our focus in this chapter is on examining the criteria of correctness for forming the minimal agnostic attitude and its various stances. The first goal is to explore the relationship between a subject’s agnosticism and the norms that govern their inquiry practices. In doing so, we distinguish between input norms (i.e., norms governing the formation of a mental attitude) and management norms (i.e., norms governing the maintenance and relinquishment of mental attitudes). We then apply this framework by analyzing two case studies from the philosophy of mathematics: Goldbach’s Conjecture and the Continuum Hypothesis. We conclude by observing that different agnostic stances are associated with distinct management norms
N-Acylated Alanine Methyl Esters (NAMEs) from Roseovarius tolerans, Structural Analogs of Quorum-Sensing Autoinducers, N-Acylhomoserine Lactones
The Roseobacter clade is one of the most important bacteria group living in the ocean. Liquid cultures of Roseovarius tolerans EL 164 were investigated for the production of autoinducers such as N-acylhomoserine lactones (AHLs) and other secondary metabolites. The XAD extracts were analyzed by GC/MS. Two AHLs, Z7-C14:1-homoserine lactone (HSL) and C15:1-HSL, were identified. Additionally, the extract contained five compounds with molecular-ion peaks at m/z 104, 145, and 158, thus exhibiting mass spectra similar to those of AHLs with corresponding peaks at m/z 102, 143, and 156. Isolation of the main compound by column chromatography, NMR analysis, dimethyl disulfide derivatization for the determination of the location of the CC bond and finally synthesis of the compound with the proposed structure confirmed the compound to be (Z)-N-(hexadec-9-enoyl)alanine methyl ester. Four additional minor compounds were identified as C14:0-, C15:0-, C16:0-, and C17:1-N-acylated alanine methyl esters (NAMEs). All NAMEs have not been described from natural sources before. A BLASTp search showed the presence of AHL-producing luxI genes, but no homologous genes potentially responsible for the structurally closely related NAMEs were found. The involvement of the NAMEs in chemical communication processes of the bacteria is discussed
