Analysis and Full-scale Experiment on Energy Consumption of Hotels in Taiwan
Being located in subtropical area, the weather in Taiwan is constantly hot and humid which imposes huge cooling load on buildings. Especially, the economic booms in Taiwan further boosted power demand, and worsened the power shortage situation.
Dr. H.T. Lin and Dr. K.H. Yang had conducted systematic research since mid-1980s, which constructed a solid ground in this field in Taiwan. Among these results, the ENVLOAD index has become legal binding since 1997 while the PACS index is now under investigation. However, it is in short of analysis and full-scale experimental investigation on energy use of hotels in Taiwan. Therefore, the establishment of the EUI and DUI indexes in Taiwan is the goal of this study.
A simplified calculation method has been established in analyzing the energy use and demand use of hotels in Taiwan, by normalizing experimental data from full-scale tests. The result can be drawn accurately based on a few terms, which are available from daily building operations such as occupancy, and is thus practically straightforward and easy to use.
In addition, the accuracy was validated by experiments performed and data collected through information technology with Internet access in 4 different forms, which yielded successful results.
It is anticipated that the calculation methodology developed in this study on EUI and DUI, and the experimental validation would provide a foundation for the establishment of hotel building energy codes in Taiwan in the future

(37(1):15-23)Studies on Forcing Culture of Golden Muscat Grapevine (Vitis viniferax Vitis labrusca) -1. Investigation of Bud Differentiation and Fruitfuleess.
The progressive bud differentiation and fruiting potential of bud 2 to bud 9 on new fruiting shoot of Golden Muscat grapevine at Er-lin town were inspected by stereomicroscope with an aim to improve its wine quality in forcing culture.
It was found that bunch primordia commenced within 45 days after bud burst in spring, coinciding with flowering period, and maximized in number with another 30 and 60 days for basal 5 nodes and node 6-8, respectively, but the primordia did not develop into full size until July 15.
The highest number of bunch primordia is obtained at bud 6, bud 7, bud 8 and bud 9 and the best size of the primordia is observed node at node 6, node 7 and node 8, indicating the highest fruiting potential of these three nodes.
However the fruting potential of these new shoots is generally low, and estimated to be only 10% of possibility to harvest 2 good crops a year, 20% of possibility to harvest one good and one medium crops, 10% chance of 2 medium crops, 30% only one medium crop and 30% no harvest at all, under forcing culture with the present manage ment system, Besides the heat summation is not enough for two good crops a year.
Therefore, it is recommended to consider new trellising and training system, such as Lyre system etc., to improve the canopy of vineyard and get the maxium photosys thesis to give a good both in guantity and guality, crop either in summer or autumn, instead of trying to harvest two crops a year with Golden Muscat in Er-lin twon
Inhibition of CaMKII Phosphorylation of RyR2 Prevents Induction of Atrial Fibrillation in FKBP12.6 Knockout Mice
Rationale:
Abnormal calcium release from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) is considered an important trigger of atrial fibrillation (AF). Whereas increased Ca
2+
/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) activity has been proposed to contribute to SR leak and AF induction, downstream targets of CaMKII remain controversial.
Objective:
To test the hypothesis that inhibition of CaMKII-phosphorylated type-2 ryanodine receptors (RyR2) prevents AF initiation in FKBP12.6-deficient (−/−) mice.
Methods and Results:
Mice lacking RyR2-stabilizing subunit FKBP12.6 had a higher incidence of spontaneous and pacing-induced AF compared with wild-type mice. Atrial myocytes from FKBP12.6−/− mice exhibited spontaneous Ca
2+
waves (SCaWs) leading to Na
+
/Ca
2+
-exchanger activation and delayed afterdepolarizations (DADs). Mutation S2814A in RyR2, which inhibits CaMKII phosphorylation, reduced Ca
2+
spark frequency, SR Ca
2+
leak, and DADs in atrial myocytes from FKBP12.6−/−:S2814A mice compared with FKBP12.6−/− mice. Moreover, FKBP12.6−/−:S2814A mice exhibited a reduced susceptibility to inducible AF, whereas FKBP12.6−/−:S2808A mice were not protected from AF.
Conclusions:
FKBP12.6 mice exhibit AF caused by SR Ca
2+
leak, Na
+
/Ca
2+
-exchanger activation, and DADs, which promote triggered activity. Genetic inhibition of RyR2-S2814 phosphorylation prevents AF induction in FKBP12.6−/− mice by suppressing SR Ca
2+
leak and DADs. These results suggest suppression of RyR2-S2814 phosphorylation as a potential anti-AF therapeutic target.
