Introduction. Shortly after the discovery of X-rays, their practical application in the clinical practice became the object of interest of many non-medical individuals. One of them was the famous Serbian writer, Branislav Nusic. This paper presents the life and work of Branislav Nusic, as well as his article: ?Roentgen?s Photography? which was published in the journal ?Politics? (July 8, 1906; N? 892, p. 3), under the alias Ben Akiba, in the Cyrillic script. The life and work of Branislav Nusic. Alchiviadi Nu?a, later Branislav Nusic (1864 - 1938) was a great Serbian literate, playwright, journalist, photographer, politician, diplomat, member of the Serbian Royal Academy, President of the Association of Yugoslav Playwrights, manager of the theaters in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Skopje and Sarajevo, and a military volunteer in the Serbian - Bulgarian war (1885). ?Roentgen?s Photography?. The author wrote this text in his own way, the only way he could and knew, vividly and wittily. He knew about the great power and strength of X-ray radiation, and he wrote of his knowledge in this short story. Without Branislav Nusic, the history of Serbian radiology would be poorer for not seeing the X-rays by the eyes of an educated, intelligent and, above all, humorous writer. Conclusion. Branislav Nusic, alongside Nikola Tesla, Mihajlo Pupin Idvorski, Dr. Abraham Vinaver, and all past and present Serbian radiologists, has become an essential and memorable link in the chain of the history of the Serbian radiology.</jats:p

Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Doctoral Degree Program: Pharmacology and Toxicology Candidate: Mgr. Katarína Tripská Supervisor: prof. PharmDr. Petr Nachtigal, Ph.D. Title of Doctoral Thesis: Possible changes of endoglin expression in endothelial cells Endoglin (Eng) is a co-receptor for ligands of the Transforming Growth Factor β superfamily. Multiple studies have demonstrated that Eng is associated with metabolic syndrome-related pathological conditions, such as hypercholesterolemia, hyperglycemia, hypertension, or obesity. However, the exact role of Eng in these pathologies is still unknown. Therefore, the main purpose of this thesis was to elucidate and summarize the role of membrane and soluble Eng in the selected pathologies associated with metabolic syndrome. We demonstrated that soluble Eng (sEng) levels, together with plasma lipids and markers of inflammation, were reduced after every lipoprotein apheresis in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. This result, in combination with knowledge acquired by the review article, indicates that increased sEng levels are associated with cardiometabolic disorders. Regarding the role of membrane Eng, we showed that blockage of Eng expression by TRC105 results in a decrease...Univerzita Karlova, Farmaceutická fakulta v Hradci Králové Katedra biologických a lékařských věd Doktorský študijný program: Farmakológia a toxikológia Kandidát: Mgr. Katarína Tripská Školiteľ: prof. PharmDr. Petr Nachtigal, Ph.D. Preto bolo hlavným cieľom tejto práce objasniť a zhrnúť úlohu membránového a solubilného Eng vo vybraných patologických stavoch spojených s metabolickým syndrómom. Pokiaľ ide o úlohu membránového Eng, ukázali sme, že blokovanie expresie Eng pomocou TRC105, má za následok zníženú hypercholesterolémiou- a...Department of Biological and Medical SciencesKatedra biologických a lékařských vědFaculty of Pharmacy in Hradec KrálovéFarmaceutická fakulta v Hradci Králov

Univerzita Karlova v Praze 1. lékařská fakulta Abstrakt dizertační práce Možnosti ovlivnění markerů kardiovaskulárního rizika stravou obohacenou amarantovou moukou PharmDr. Zdeněk Chmelík Praha 2022 Abstract (EN) Introduction: Diet suitable for lipid metabolism disorders should not increase the total and LDL cholesterol, and ideally should assist in its lowering. Analysis of literary sources suggest that amaranth can meet these properties. Aim: The execution of literary investigation of the issue and experimental verification of lipid- lowering effect of amaranth flour in laboratory conditions. Methods: 50 (Experiment 1) or 40 (Experiment 2) The mice were divided into five (Experiment 1) or four (Experiment 2) groups fed by control mixture (C), high-energy diet (HED), high- energy diet with amaranth (HED+A) and in Experiment 1, by high-energy diet with amaranth flour and simvastatin (HED+A+S) or only with simvastatin (HED+S), and in Experiment 2 a by high-energy diet with squalene (HED+S). Weight gains were measured and TC, LDL and HDL cholesterol determined. Results: Feeding of HED diets resulted in a statistically significant increase in the TC cholesterol by 81% (Experiment 1) or 125% (Experiment 2), LDL cholesterol of 612% (Experiment 1) or 304% (Experiment 2) and a decrease in HDL cholesterol by 8.4%...Univerzita Karlova v Praze 1. lékařská fakulta Abstrakt dizertační práce Možnosti ovlivnění markerů kardiovaskulárního rizika stravou obohacenou amarantovou moukou PharmDr. Zdeněk Chmelík Praha 2022 Abstrakt (CZ) Úvod: Dieta vhodná u poruch metabolismu lipidů by neměla zvyšovat celkový a LDL cholesterol a ideálně by měla napomáhat k jeho snižování. Analýza literárních zdrojů naznačuje, že amarant může tyto vlastnosti splňovat. Cíle práce: Provedení literárního šetření dané problematiky a experimentální ověření literaturou avizovaného hypolipidemického působení amarantu v laboratorních podmínkách. Metodika: 50 (Pokus 1) respektive 40 (Pokus 2) myší bylo rozděleno do pěti (Pokus 1) respektive čtyř (Pokus 2) skupin krmených kontrolní směsí (C), vysokoenergetickou dietou (HED), vysokoenergetickou dietou s amarantem (HED+A) a v Pokusu 1 dále vysokoenergetickou dietou s amarantovou moukou a simvastatinem (HED+A+S) či pouze se simvastatinem (HED+S) a v Pokusu 2 vysokoenergetickou dietou se skvalenem (HED+S). Myším byly měřeny hmotnostní přírůstky a stanoven celkový (TC), LDL a HDL cholesterol. Výsledky: Zkrmovaní HED diety vedlo ke statisticky významnému zvýšení TC cholesterolu o 81 % (Pokus 1) respektive o 125 % (Pokus 2), LDL cholesterolu o 612 % (Pokus 1) respektive 304 % (Pokus 2) a poklesu HDL cholesterolu o...3rd Department of Medicine - Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism First Faculty of Medicine Charles University and General University Hospital in PragueIII. interní klinika - klinika endokrinologie a metabolismu 1. Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Candidate: Mgr. Jana Rathouská Supervisor: Doc. PharmDr. Petr Nachtigal, Ph.D. Title of Doctoral Thesis: Pharmacological influence on atherogenesis in experimental animal models of atherosclerosis Atherosclerosis is a slow inflammatory process in arterial walls which is, as a part of cardiovascular diseases, the main source of morbidity and mortality in developed countries. However, searching for the possibilities of atherosclerosis treatment requires detailed knowledge of pathogenesis of the disease itself. The use of mouse models offers one of the possibilities of studying the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, which enables a number of interventions that would not be acceptable in human medicine. By using the high content lipid diet, we are able to induce the changes of lipid spectrum in mice. Moreover, if a targeted genetic manipulation is used, one can reach considerably advanced plaques in a relatively short time period. It is also possible to interfere in the process of atherogenesis in mouse models by using some hypolipidemic drugs, for example from the statin group that were represented in our studies by atorvastatin. By observing the vessel's reactivity to atorvastatin dosage,..

Critical regionalism in the work of architect Branislav Mitrovic

In the Serbian architecture from the end of the twentieth and at the beginning of the twenty-first century, Branislav Mitrovic (1948) distinguished himself as the most successful author of the whole orientation, as opponent of globalization uniformity and widespread conservatism. Overall, his work links the ideas of late modern and critical regionalism as the direction of the world postmodern architecture. Filled with historical reminiscences and complex meanings, rarely built out of context, it has a signified significance in contemporary post-Yugoslav architecture, derived from universalist sterility. Mitrovic's critical regionalism does not possess the eclectic features of fashionable regionalism, but is based on the selection of the best historical traits of the Balkan-Mediterranean climate and their transfer to modernity. Traditional classical and folklore motifs succesfully revives with new materials, while regulating the spatial matrix on the most functional principles
