We can recognize two main groups based on the number of visits and preferences in respect to content. The first group consists of visitors looking for specific information about Rudjer Boskovic Institute and our library. Visitors from the second group are using our web pages exclusively as a starting point in searching for scientific information and resources. In developing our new web site, we have to pay attention to separation of those two kinds of content and therefore to enhance navigation

Open Science in an open cloud
European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is an European wide initiative that aims to develop a ‘Web of FAIR Data and Services’ for science in Europe that will provide researchers, students, companies and citizens with a federated and open multi-disciplinary environment where they can collaborate, share and reuse data, tools and services. EOSC Portal Catalogue and Marketplace is an entry point which improves the findability and accessibility of the scientific resources, their curation, support and training activities.In order to empower local stakeholders (researchers, policy makers, research performing organisations, etc.), NI4OS-Europe project (National Initiatives for Open Science in Europe) provides technical support for onboarding, i.e. making scientific web services compliant with the NI4OS/EOSC requirements and inclusion in catalogues. At the same time, as open science cloud initiatives emerge across the EU landscape, in the terms of infrastructure and policy development, it also supports building the Croatian Open Science Cloud (abbrev. locally HR-OOZ) Initiative. HR-OOZ is gathering prominent national institutions with an active role regarding open science covering all important stakeholder groups: research performing organisations (RPO), research funding organisations, research supporting organisations and policy makers. The Initiative aims to build a modern, high-quality, internationally relevant, and competitive science system based on the principles of open science, which is harmonised and connected with the European Research Area and relevant European initiatives. The Initiative has two main goals. The first goal is to set up the HR-OOZ which includes tasks of defining its organisational structure, defining the technological principles of services that will make the HR-OOZ, and ensuring its sustainability. The second goal of the Initiative is to draft the proposal of the National Action Plan for Open Science and propose changes to the law governing scientific activities.We will present the interconnections between national and European initiatives and how they complement each other as well as the proposed mechanisms for incentivizing and rewarding OS practices which are the vital components of the whole OS ecosystem

Istraživački podaci temelj su znanstvenog pristupa no sami po sebi nemaju značenje niti vrijednost bez konteksta i interpretacije. Podaci nastaju prikupljanjem, bilježenjem ili generiranjem, a analizom tog sirovog materijala dolazimo do informacija i znanja. Omogućavanje pristupa izvornim istraživačkim podacima jedan je od temeljnih elemenata
incijative za otvaranjem znanosti. Prakse upravljanja istraživačkim podacima razlikuju se ovisno o području znanosti neovisno o tome radi li se o podacima kvalitatvne ili kvantitativne prirode, a čak i unutar pojedinih
znanstvenih disciplina postoje specifični načini njihova prikupljanja, opisivanja, pohrane i dijeljenja. Financijeri znanstvenih projekata i istraživanja počeli su prepoznavati koristi od učinkovitog upravljanja istraživačkim podacima te u ugovore s primateljima sredstava za istraživanja unose obvezu izrade "Plana upravljanja istraživačkim podacima".
Usporedo s nastojanjima znanstvene zajednice i zahtjevima financijera razvija se i infrastruktura koja podupire aktivnosti vezane uz upravljanje istraživačkim podacima na
tehničkoj ali i organizacijskoj razini. U radu ćemo vas upoznati s trenutnim stanjem politika, infrastrukture i postojećih standarda u domeni brige o otvorenim straživačkim podacima.
Također su prikazene i incijative u Hrvatskoj.Research data are the basis of scholarly knowledge. They are being collected, observed or created for the purpose of analysis in order to produce new research results, new information and knowledge. They have no value or meaning of their own but fully depend on the context and interpretation. Enabling open access to research data is one of the key elements of the open science initiative.
Data management practices vary considerably across research disciplines regardless of the data type (quantitative or qualitative). Also, practices and norms on data collecting,
describing, archiving, and disseminating can sometimes differ even within the same research discipline. The agencies which are funding scientific research have started to recognize the benefits of the efficient data management. Accordingly, more and more funders of scientific research require from their beneficiaries to design an elaborate Data Management Plan when submitting proposals. Besides the efforts of scientific communities and funders requirements, the infrastructure for technical and organizational support of the data management, as another important precondition in achieving the open access to research data, has been developed.
The paper presents the current state of the policies, infrastructures and standards for the open research data. A brief description of the initiatives in Croatia is included, too
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
