Abstract
Relevance. Cranioskeletal trauma has the most severe lesions and is accompanied by significant mortality. The impact of comorbidities caused by the cardiovascular system, in particular diffuse lesions of internal organs are not fully investigated under this condition. A common mechanism of pathogenesis of these pathological processes is the development of cytolytic syndrome.
Goal of study: is to determine the dynamics of markers of cytolysis in the period of late manifestations of cranioskeletal trauma in conditions of concomitant chronic hepatitis and to evaluate the effectiveness of armadine correction.
Materials and methods. Cranioskeletal trauma, chronic hepatitis, and its combinations were modelled in separate groups of nonlinear white male rats. Armadine at a dose of 20 mg/kg intraperitoneally was used to correct the group with combined lesions. The activity of alanine and aspartate aminotransferases was determined in the serum of experimental animals on 14, 21, 28 and 35 days after injury.
Results and its discussion. The application of cranioskeletal trauma in the late manifestations of traumatic disease is accompanied by increased cytolysis. The activity of alanine and ampartate aminotransferase in the serum of injured animals is increased after 14 days of the post-traumatic period and continues to increase up to 21 days with a subsequent decrease. Moreover, up to 35 days only the activity of aspartate aminotransferase reaches the level of control, while the activity of alanine aminotransferase continues to remain significantly higher. The use of armadin under these conditions from the 21st day of the experiment causes a decrease in the changes of the studied parameters compared with the group of animals without correction.
Conclusions. The application of cranioskeletal trauma on the background of chronic hepatitis in the late manifestations of traumatic disease is accompanied by a greater change of cytolysis than in the group of injured animals without concomitant liver damage. The use of armadine causes a statistically significant decrease in the intensity of the detected disorders, starting from 21 days of the experiment.

Left-wing populism in Spain
The paper examines formation, evolution and political perspectives of the Spanish radical left-wing populist party ‘We Can!’ (Podemos) in the face of growing support for populism in the the Southern European countries as well as in the European Union in general. The author identifies the origins and country-specific characteristics of the left-wing populism in Spain and provides the general overview of trends in the country’s party system since the middle of the 2000s, including the growing axiological, generational, political and ideological cleavages in the Spanish divided society. Special attention is paid to the political portrait of the Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias and the prospects for development of political situation in the country after his resignation and subsequent electoral defeat in the Autonomous Community of Madrid in May 2021. As such, this case study can provide some useful insights on the nature of populism in the EU member-states in general. In particular, the paper shows that the fragmentation of traditional political systems and the impacts of the sovereign debt crisis per se do not provide a sufficient explanation for the growing demand for populist rhetoric and charismatic leaders, but rather they have exposed certain structural economic and social imbalances. It is exactly these imbalances which traditional political parties are unable to address that create a breeding ground for various left- and right-wing parties and movements. As a result, the author concludes that populism will remain an essential element of political landscape in Spain despite all scandals that accompany populist politicians as the case of Pablo Iglesias has clearly demonstrated. At the same time the author emphasizes that it is this clear and imminent threat posed by the populist movements that may eventually serve as an impetus for a renewal of traditional parties and of the country’s political system in general
The “memory wars” in divided societies: the case of Spain
The author, using the identity approach and discourse analysis explores a serious political conflict in today’s Spain about historical memory, threatening solidarity and civilian identity of the Spaniards and also political stability in the society, divided on a variety of characteristics – economic, social, territorial, cultural, value, ethnic, linguistic, etc., which have acquired or are acquiring a political dimension. The alternative politics of memory, which are declared and carried out by different competing actors of political process at the country level, first of all being government and opposition parties, are analyzed in the article. The expression of authorities’ discourse of the present left coalition government on the issues of Spanish past in the country’s mediasphere is considered to understand the extent and depth of public and political debate on key problems of Spanish history and memory. The author uses a historical metaphor of conflict of the “two Spains” to assess “memory wars” in Spanish society, multicultural and divided on various grounds, identifying short-term (with a view of forthcoming general parliamentary elections, which will take place in 2022) and long-term strategic risks for inclusive nation-building and sustainable development of the country. A conclusion is made that a division based on party ideological principles is axial (dominant) in “memory wars”, despite the remaining sharpness of the vertical conflict between center and some particularist regions (primarily Catalonia); within the frame of this conflict there are attempts to reassess, anonymize, and get a hold of or mythologize various historic events and personas. Nowadays the dispute between “rightists” and “leftists” in assessment of Second Spanish Republic, number of victims on both sides during the civil war, Francoist regime, success of democratic transition in post-Francoist period and other “difficult” questions across Spanish past becomes more emotionally charged, deep and aggressive
Energy transition narratives in the European Union
Today, there is a broad international consensus on the need to ensure carbon neutrality and, more broadly, to address global environmental issues. By promoting increasingly stringent ecological standards and climate regulations in the energy sector and consistently forcing others to emulate its example, the European Union seeks to present itself as a normative power in this area. At the same time, the EU leaders face the need to mobilize public support for the idea of the sustainable climate-oriented transition in order to mitigate its negative economic and social effects. This, in turn, requires the construction and promotion of the compelling and unambiguous energy transition narrative designed to legitimize the EU’s environmental and energy policy. This paper identifies and examines the key elements of such a narrative propagated within the European Union, as well as assesses its perception by various groups of the European countries’ population. The author also outlines a few alternative ‘greentransition’ narratives, which have arisen as a reaction to both the deficiencies of the EU’s energy policy and the challenges posed by the Ukrainian crisis. The author concludes that the EU leaders and the non-governmental and non-profit actors backing them have managed to build a broad and solid public consensus around the official narrative of the energy transition. Under these conditions, one of the central objectives facing the EU leaders is to maintain and strengthen the attained level of public support for its policies, given new transition-related challenges to the territorial integrity and political cohesion of the union. The latter include high inflation rates and the general rise in the cost of living, negative tendencies in the labor market due to its structural transformation, as well as the growing economic heterogeneity of the member states
The strategy of Spain in the United Nations
The article explores potential, resources and strategy of Spain in the United Nations from the moment when the resolution of the socalled Spanish question was adopted and Spain joined this influential intergovernmental international organization in 1955 to the present date. The author focuses on key problems which directly deal with national interests of Spain, including: a dispute with the United Kingdom about the ownership of Gibraltar, perennial problem of the Western (Spanish) Sahara conflict management, the initiative and the UN programme Alliance of Civilizations, co-sponsored by Spain, Kosovo issue and the danger of internationalization of the political and institutional conflict in Catalonia, efforts by the Spanish central government to achieve sustainable development goals. By analyzing foreign policy resources of Spain, initiatives and activities of the country in the United Nations and its various specialized agencies over the years using the UN information materials, the author suggests that successful democratic transition and the country’s accession to the European Economic Community in 1986 strengthened the profile of Spain in the United Nations. However, the political and institutional transformations in the European Union, creation of political union of the Member-States and establishment and development of the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy mean that Spain may carry out its foreign policy in a ‘truncated’ form, taking into account the EU position as a special strategic partner of the UN and its expanded Observer status. The economic and foreign policy potential of this country weakening its competitive advantages under the influence of negative consequences of the global financial and economic crisis do not raise an issue about permanent membership of Spain in the UN Security Council. However, the ‘soft power’ resources based on its postimperial identity allow for a fairly high appreciation of possibilities of Spain with regard to monitoring, prevention and management of conflicts and crisis situations in developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America, providing international assistance for development and facilitating intercultural dialogue of the Western and non-Western civilazations
NATO’s partnership policy: From the military alliance to the security community, and back again
Despite the fact that NATO is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, there is an ongoing debate on the essence and nature of the alliance, its role in international relations in general and the architecture of European security in particular. These discussions are especially relevant now as the system of international relations has entered a period of global transformation. The fact that the alliance has undergone numerous organizational and identity changes throughout its long history makes the problem of understanding the phenomenon of NATO all the more difficult. In order to address this challenge, the article focuses on the key features of NATO’s partnership policy in the post-bipolar world. The author concludes that in the wake of the Cold War, NATO faced a profound identity crisis and set a course for a radical functional expansion, in particular within the framework of partnership policy, by including the issues of post-conflict reconstruction, human and gender security, public diplomacy, climate change, etc. into its agenda. All this seemed to indicate a radical shift of NATO from a traditional military-political association towards a genuine ‘security community’. However, the conflict in Ukraine and the deep impasse between Russia and the West, largely provoked by the NATO’s partnership and enlargement policy, has again brought to the forefront of the bloc’s collective identity-building the traditional binary ‘friend-and-foe’ logic and, especially, self-representation as a military alliance
