Early Implementation of an Orthosis for the Hemiplegic Upper Extremity

Limited evidence exists surrounding the use of orthoses for neurological deficits of the upper extremity poststroke. We are evaluating the feasibility of a novel orthosis. Results may guide management of stroke-induced hemiplegia in the acute care setting.

No full textCílem bakalářské práce je představit spisovatele a dobrodruha Jiřího Zemana. Nejprve je popsán jeho život, což nebyl lehký úkol, poněvadž je spisovatel mimo Českou republiku. V rámci portrétu je zmíněna spisovatelova největší vášeň, téma přežití v divoké přírodě. Dále práce obsahuje soupis Zemanovy tvorby vydané na našem území a knih, které měly být vydány, ale kvůli neshodám s nakladatelstvím se tak nestalo. Některá Zemanova díla jsou blíže charakterizována a je upozorněno na autobiografické prvky. V závěru je spisovatel Jiří Zeman zařazen do širšího literárního kontextu.Katedra českého jazyka a literaturyObhájenoThe purpose of the seminar paper is to introduce a writer and an adventurer Jiří Zeman. At first his life is described, which was not an easy task because the writer lives abroad. There is mentioned author's biggest passion, the theme of survival in wild nature within the work. Further, the work contains the list of Zeman's writings which were published in our country and books, that were supposed to be published but due to disagreements with the publisher they weren't. Some of Zeman's writings are described closer and the autobiographical elements are pointed out. In the conclusion the writer Jiří Zeman is classified into wider literary context
Presidential Speeches of Miloš Zeman
No full textMiloš Zeman as the first directly elected president is among the most significant personalities of the Czech political scene and he is also one of the most capable speakers of the post-communist era. Public speeches are almost the only medium for communication between the president and the public. The thesis aims to analyse the presidential speeches of Miloš Zeman. The relevant period for this research was set to 8.3. 2013-31.12. 2014. The author analysed the speeches in terms of structure, length of sentences, figures of speech used, vocabulary, argumentation, manipulative and persuasive techniques and recurring themes. In the end of the paper, the author also compared Czech media's interpretation of the speeches with foreign media's interpretation

No full textVe své bakalářské práci mapuji svébytnou tvorbu legendárního filmaře zlínských ateliérů Karla Zemana, zmiňuji jeho jednotlivé díla, kdy se zaměřuji na jejich obsahovou náplň i samotnou realizaci. V části své práce rozebírám Zemanovy trikové postupy, stejně jako pra-meny jeho inspirací pro tvorbu. Poslední kapitolu věnuji filmovému řemeslu dnešní doby a zamýšlím se nad vlivem Karla Zemana na tuto pokrokovou éru. Uvádím jeho domácí i zahraniční úspěchy a snažím se vyslovit k Zemanově umělecké osobě jako k výjimečnému tvůrci všech dob, který je letos navíc významný svým stým jubileem.In my bachelor work I am concerned with the original creation of legendary filmmaker Ka-rel Zeman, that worked in Zlín art studios. I mention his individual works and I concentrate on their contens and realization. In a part work I analyse Zeman's film trick procedures, as well as his inspiration for the creation. In the last chapter I write about movie profession of present and I speculate about the influence of Karel Zeman on this progressive era. Chinese literary works translated into Baba Malay: a bibliographical study
No full textAnalyses 68 unique titles of Baba translated works published between 1889 and 1950. The titles are held in the libraries of the University of Malaya (UM), Science University Malaysia (USM), National University of Malaysia (UKM), the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), National University of Singapore (NUS), National Library of Singapore (NLS) and the British Library (BL). The results reveal three periods of active publication of Baba translated works. A total of 18 works were translated before World War I, followed by 10 just after the war, 39 titles were published before the break of the World War II and 1 was identified in 1950. There were 103 persons involved in the 68 translated works, some of whom are responsible for more than one title. The most prominent translators were Chan Kim Boon, Wan Boon Seng, Seow Chin San and Lee Seng Poh. Some of the translators were also be editors, illustrators or editors. There were 31 publishers and 21 printing presses involved, all were located in Singapore. The most active publishers were Wan Boon Seng, Kim Seck Chy Press and Nanyang Romanised Malay Book Co. The translated works mainly cover historical classical Chinese stories, chivalrous stories, romances, folklore and legends. The titles were priced between 10 cents to 2 dollars in Straits currency. The University of Malaya Library held the largest number of unique title (62) out of which 15 were unique titles
‘Bombik’s Secret Mission’: A Therapeutic Story and Its Musical Adaptation
No full textThe author approaches the topic of interdisciplinary studies in the Institute of Music at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Silesia, located in Cieszyn. The article constitutes a case study of a children’s radio play Bombik’s Secret Mission, written by Bogusław Zeman and adapted by Magdalena Micherda. Therapeutic stories provide assistance in the child’s development process. Thanks to them, the listeners can, for example, learn how to cope with the difficulties of quotidian life. Such choice of worthwhile listening material can be regarded as an investment in their future. Interdisciplinary classes, which combine various fields of study, including literature, pedagogy, theater and music, constitute an important part of a comprehensive curriculum for the students
On Memory
No full textOn Memory is a collaboration between a composer (Whalley), a neurologist (Zeman) and an author (McCall Smith). Explored through music, science and poetry; each movement tackles a different aspect of memory. How are memories formed? What is the power of forgetting, as well as remembering? What part does music play in our autobiographical memory?
After an interval, this is followed with a discussion with the authors led and chaired by Professor Catherine Loveday, digging deeper into the special relationship that music has with memory and our sense of self.

Lucie Benešová Název bakalářské práce: Fyzioterapie po totální endoprotéze temporomandibulárního kloubu Abstrakt bakalářské práce: Bakalářská práce je koncipována jako teoreticko-praktická a zabývá se problematikou fyzioterapie po totální endoprotéze temporomandibulárního kloubu. Cílem bakalářské práce je vytvořit návrh vyšetřovacího a terapeutického konceptu ve fyzioterapii u totální endoprotézy temporomandibulárního kloubu. Teoretická část je členěna na čtyři tematické okruhy. První obsahuje stručný popis anatomie, kineziologie a biomechaniky temporomandibulárního kloubu. Druhý pojednává o poruchách kloubu, jejich etiologii, klasifikaci, klinických příznacích a léčebné intervenci se specifickým zaměřením na poruchy vedoucí k léčbě chirurgické. Třetí popisuje operační průběh totální rekonstrukce kloubu, zmiňuje rizika a kontraindikace operačního výkonu a popisuje následnou pooperační péči. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to develop a proposal for diagnostic and therapeutic concept in physiotherapy for total temporomandibular joint replacement. The theoretical part is divided into four sections. The first is a brief description of the anatomy, kinesiology and biomechanics of the temporomandibular joint. The second deals with joint disorders, their etiology, classification, clinical manifestations and therapeutic intervention with a special focus on disorders that lead to surgical treatment. Mezi řadou způsobů, jak dosáhnout obousměrné tvarové paměti, byla v této práci využita kombinace kovového materiálu Nitinol a vybraného polymeru s tvarovou pamětí. V kom- pozitním materiálu z těchto dvou složek bylo dosaženo bistabilní obousměrné tvarové paměti. Bistabilní obousměrná tvarová paměť je unikátní tím, že umožňuje existenci materiálu v obou zapamatovaných stavech při stejné teplotě. Bylo prokázáno, že rozhodujícím faktorem pro dosažení určitého tvaru je předešlý teplotní průběh kompozitního materiálu. Pro zlepšené spojení kovového Niti- nolu a polymerního materiálu byl povrch NiTi upraven laserem. Mezi několika studovanými polymery prokázal nejlepší vlastnosti polymer vyrobený ze dvou složek, a to 60...Title: Inducing Two-way Shape Memory Effect in NiTi-polymer Composite Author: Jakub Zeman Supervisor: Sneha Manjaree Samal, Ph.D., Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences Abstract: Two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) allows material to ac- tively deform between two remembered shapes without the application of ex- ternal force. The most common stimulus is temperature change with several approaches to induce shape memory effect in the material. The approach stud- ied in this thesis utilizes Nitinol and shape memory polymer. By combining these two materials, bistable TWSME was induced in the composite. Bistable TWSME allows the material to be in both of its remembered shapes at a single temperature. The shape of the material depends on the temperature profile by which the target temperature was reached. To create the composite Nitinol foil was shape set and its surface laser lined to increase adhesion with the polymer. Out of the studied polymers, the best properties for the preparation of com- posite were exhibited by a blend of 60 % TPU and 40 % PCL by weight. The composite was then prepared by hot press and tested.
