Get PDFAmphibian anomalies have been reported for a long time, with the first description dating back to the eighteenth century, when Vallisneri described an individual with five legs in Italy (1733). In recent times mass deformities have been the focus of herpetological research in the Northern Hemisphere for various reasons (pollution: see e. g. Flyaks, Borkin, 2004, parasite infection: see e. g. Johnson, Hartson, 2009, urban effects: see e. g. Vershinin, 1989).Аномалии амфибий отмечаются исследователями в течение продолжительного периода времени – первые упоминания относятся к XVIII в., когда Vallisneri описал особь с пятью ногами в Италии (1733). Safety and Security in Global Navigation Satellite Systems
No full textThe Global Positioning System (GPS) is currently the most widely spread and most used Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Numerous industries and people rely daily on the system’s ability to determine their position as well as to synchronize time with the atomic clock carried onboard the satellites. It is now more important than ever for GNSS to operate securely and reliably, to ensure the safety of its users. However, in this chapter, it is highlighted that this might not always be the case, as attackers constantly find new ways to exploit the GNSS features and pose an imminent threat to the system’s reliability. GNSS receivers are especially vulnerable to three types of malicious attacks, in particular blocking, jamming and spoofing. In this chapter, a thorough research was conducted for the operation of both GNSS receivers and spoofing devices. A literature review based on the current available studies and research for detection and mitigation measures, was made. Then a new spoofing detection method is proposed and the principles and the research that was based on are analysed. Experimental data and results were gathered along with data extracted from simulated spoofed signals. The results from both the experiment and the simulation are reviewed, compared and discussed. Finally, based on those results conclusions are drawn.</p
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
