Salah satu wacana yang muncul adalah narasi distopia terhadap sejarah. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis narasi distopia terhadap sejarah yang muncul dalam trilogi Divergent karya Veronica Roth sebagai salah satu representasi sastra distopia pada era 2000-an. Rumusan masalah dalam artikel ini terkait dengan bagaimana narasi distopia terhadap sejarah diwacanakan di dalam trilogi novel Divergent karya Veronica Roth. Teori yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah konsep politik distopia menurut Tom Moylan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa narasi sejarah dikonstruksi secara imajinatif, yang tidak selalu bersifat faktual. Berdasarkan analisis yang telah dilakukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa narasi distopia terhadap sejarah dikonstruksi sebagai kritik sosial politik atas situasi politik yang terjadi pada hari-hari ini.Kata Kunci: Distopia, Sejarah, Trilogi Divergent, Veronica Roth
Violence In Divergent Novel By Veronica Roth (2011): Feminist Approach
Get PDFThis study aims to find and explain the types of violence that exist in the novel and reveal how Tris won to turn the world into peace without a faction. This research is a qualitative research. The object of this study was to analyze a novel entitled Divergent written by Veronica Roth in 2011. Data sources were analyzed through sentences related to violence found in the novel. This type of research data using text taken from two sources, namely primary data and secondary data. The author reads the novel carefully and repeatedly through primary data taken from the Divergent novel written by Veronica Roth in 2011. Then secondary data is taken through articles, internet journals related to research, literary books, and literature. The results of this study are two points. First, there are three types of violence in the novel, namely the theory of violence as an actor based on individual or group actions, the theory of structural violence, the theory of violence as a link between actors and structures. Both Tris are able to fight the violence in its path and make Tris survive to win and make the world peaceful
Request Strategies Used In Divergent Novel By Veronica Roth and Its Translation: Pragmatics Analysis
Get PDFThe study is aimed at finding two objectives, there are (1) the equivalence of the request strategies used in Divergent Novel by Veronica Roth and its translation. (2) the equivalence of the politeness strategies of the request utterance used in Divergent Novel by Veronica Roth and its translation. This study is qualitative research. The data are utterances which contain request strategies used by the characters. The data sources are the Divergent Novel written by Veronica Roth and its translation. In collecting the data, the researcher used documentation method. The data are analyzed by using theory of Kulka, House and Kasper theory (1993)and the theory of Brown and Levinson (1987). The results of the research revealed, first, there are eight request strategies used in Divergent Novel such as mood derivable (29%), explicit performative (8%), locution derivable (21%), want statement (4%), suggestory formula (4%), prepatory (13%), strong hint (17%), and mild hint (4%). Second, there are four types of politeness strategies employed by the characters such as bald on record (54%), negative politeness (17%), positive politeness (25%), and off record (4%). Mood derivable, locution derivable, and strong hint and bald on record become the dominant of the intention of request strategies and politeness strategies used in Divergent Novel.

Translation Shift Analysis And Readability On Allegiant By Veronica Roth
Get PDFThis research focuses on the translation shift on Allegiant novel by Veronica Roth. The objectives of this research are (1) to classify translation shifts found in Allegiant Novel and its translation, and (2) to identify readability of translation shift applied in Allegiant Novel and its translation. The research type applied in this study is descriptive qualitative type. The object of the research is Allegiant novel written by Veronica Roth. The data are all utterances or sentences found on Allegiant novel written by Veronica Roth and its translation. The method of collecting data in this study is documentation and interviewing. The writer uses triangulation to prove the validity of the research. The results of this research shows that: first there are category shift 7,41%, intra-system shift 53,69%, level shift 7,02% and structural shift 31,79%. From the analysis the writer verifies each shift into some types. Category shift is divided into 3 types, there are noun into verb 0,42%, noun into adjective 0,09%, and verb into noun 6,89%. Intra-system shift is divided into 4 types, there are singular into plural 0,06%, verb into verb 42,00%, verb into verb phrase 0,51%, plural into singular 11.11%. Level shift is divided into 5 types, there are noun into noun phrase 2,25%, verb into verb phrase 1,70%, adjective into adjective phrase 0,30%, verb phrase into verb 2,64%, adjective phrase into adjective 0,03%. Structural shift is divided into 5 types, there are noun phrase into noun phrase 20,32%, noun phrase into noun 5,76%, clause into noun 0,91%, clause into clause 3,08%, sentence into sentence 1,70%. Based on the readability of translation shift above, there is readability of translation in Allegiant novel. Second, from 3275 data there are 3262 data has score 3 of readability or 99,60% and 13 data has score 2 or 0,39%. The finding shows that the readability level is high although the medium level also finds but it doesn’t dominant. The high readability is more dominant for this translation. From the case above, it can be concluded that the target language in translation are readable because it is dominant with the high readability level.

Faction as a symbol of social stratification and social discrimination in novel Divergent by Veronica Roth

This research uses Karl Marx's social class theory or Marxism to describe the problems of social stratification and social discrimination that occur as a result. The focus of the Marxist approach is to assist researchers in classifying literary works against social problems defined in Karl Marx's social class theory. However, this research is not limited to using Marxism theory alone but also uses supporting theories such as Newman's and Theodorson's theories to answer questions. Thus this research combines several approaches to enable a more comprehensive analysis of the research objectives. The method of analysis used in this research is a qualitative descriptive approach. The data analyzed comes from excerpts of dialogue or narration in the novel Divergent by Veronica Roth. From the data analyzed using Karl Marx's social class theory, researchers found 28 forms of social stratification portrayed in the novel Divergent by Veronica Roth and 19 forms of social discrimination portrayed in the novel Divergent by Veronica Roth. The research result focuses on the depiction of social stratification and discrimination depicted in the dystopian society represented in the form of factions. the researcher envisions an enhanced development of this research with innovative ideas, firmly believing that exploring subjects and themes encompassing social stratification and discrimination in our society will remain relevant and interconnected with our daily lives. This potential development holds promise for further enriching our comprehension of these critical societal issues.results of this study can serve as a reference base for further research.

Penelitian ini menggunakan teori kelas sosial dari Karl Marx atau Marxism untuk mendeskripsikan permasalahan stratifikasi sosial dan diskriminasi sosial yang terjadi sebagai akibatnya. Fokus dari pendekatan Marxism adalah untuk membantu peneliti dalam mengklasifikasikan karya sastra terhadap permasalahan-permasalahan sosial yang didefinisikan dalam teori kelas sosial Karl Marx. Namun penelitian ini tidak sebatas menggunakan teori Marxism saja namun juga menggunakan teori-teori pendukung seperti teori Newman dan Theodorson untuk menjawab pertanyaan. Dengan demikian penelitian ini menggabungkan beberapa pendekatan untuk memungkinkan analisis yang lebih komprehensif terhadap tujuan penelitian. Metode analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang dianalisis berasal dari kutipan-kutipan dialog atau narasi dalam novel Divergent karya Veronica Roth. Dari data yang dianalisis menggunakan teori kelas sosial Karl Marx, peneliti menemukan 28 bentuk gambaran stratifikasi sosial dalam novel Divergent karya Veronica Roth dan 19 bentuk diskriminasi sosial yang tergambar dalam novel Divergent karya Veronica Roth. Hasil penelitian menggambarkan stratifikasi dan diskriminasi sosial yang tergambar dalam tatanan masyarakat dystopian yang direpresentasikan dalam bentuk faksi. peneliti membayangkan pengembangan lebih lanjut dari penelitian ini dengan ide-ide inovatif, dengan keyakinan kuat bahwa mengeksplorasi subjek dan tema yang mencakup stratifikasi sosial dan diskriminasi dalam masyarakat kita akan tetap relevan dan saling berhubungan dengan kehidupan kita sehari-hari. Get PDFThis study focuses on the study of the deconstruction towards the concept of character’s existentialism in Veronica Roth's Divergent which begins with the propagation of existentialism as a mainstream value in the novel but still raises problems and issues of freedom. Generally, this study has two main problems: (1) how deconstruction works on the existentialism of the characters in the novel, (2) what are the inherent values contained in the novel as a result of the deconstruction study of the concept of character’s existentialism. This study employs the theory and method of deconstruction as a framework of analysis and existentialism as a concept. The result of this study indicates that the existentialism echoed by the author as the primary value is deconstructed into character’s dehumanization who deals with the non-freedom of choice of life.Penelitian ini berfokus pada kajian dekonstruksi terhadap konsep eksistensialisme tokoh dalam novel Divergent karya Veronica Roth yang berawal dari pengajuan eksistensialisme sebagai nilai arus utama di dalam novel namun masih menimbulkan permasalahan dan isu-isu terkait kebebasan. Secara garis besar, penelitian ini memiliki dua permasalahan utama yaitu (1) bagaimana dekonstruksi bekerja pada eksistensialisme tokoh di dalam novel Divergent, (2) apa nilai-nilai inheren yang termuat di dalam novel sebagai hasil dari kajian dekonstruksi terhadap konsep eksistensialisme tokoh. An Analysis Clitics in the Novel Allegiant by Veronica Roth
No full textThis study aims to find out the type and the function of English clitics, which mostly are used in informal language. The researcher analyzes English clitic in Chapter II (Tobias) of Allegiant Novel by Veronica Roth. The researcher found 47 clitics. There were two types of clitics consist of (1) one is proclitic and (2) 46 are enclitics. Furthermore, also have three functions of clitics with (1) six variants encompassed (..’d, ..’m, ..’s, ..’re, ..’ve, ..’ll) consist of 27 enclitics as verbal functions, (2) 15 enclitics as adverbial function (n’t), and (3) as pronominal function has five clitics with two variants encompassed (o’.., genitive (‘s)) which consist of four enclitics and one proclitic.Â
REBELLION IN DIVERGENT NOVEL BY VERONICA ROTH (2011): A PSYCHOANALYTIC APPROACH
Get PDFThe study is aimed to show rebellions of Tris, the main character in Divergent Novel by Veronica Roth. The object of the study of this research is to analyze the novel based on psychoanalytic approach which deals with id, ego and superego of Tris. This research use qualitative research. Type of data of the study is text taken from two data sources: primary and secondary. The primary data source is taken from the novel Divergent written by Veronica Roth in 2011. While the secondary data sources are other materials taken from literary books, criticism, essays, articles, journal and internet related to the study. Both data are collected through library research and analyzed by descriptive analysis. The outcome of the study shows the following conclusions. Firstly, based on the structural analysis, it shows that the character and characterization, setting, plot, style and theme of the novel are related into solid unity. Secondly, based on psychoanalytic analysis the novel tells that the major character, Tris has psychological problems. The psychological problem of the major character encounters causes the conflict of her mental condition. Then, it develops to become an ambition of her does a rebellion action against Erudite faction. Her great ambition is against the Erudite’s opinion that Divergent is dangerous
Politeness Strategies Used by the Characters in the Veronica Roth‟s Novel “Divergent”

Novel “Divergent”. The aim of this thesis is to find out the kinds of politeness strategies used by
the characters in Veronica Roth‟s novel “Divergent”.
The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The writer used
Brown and Levinson‟s theory to describe politeness strategies in the novel. The data resource of
this research was the novel “Divergent” which was published in 2011. In collecting the data, the
writer used note taking as the instrument to get the data. Along the instrument, the writer read the
novel, then write the utterances of politeness strategies on the novel by using note cards, after
that the utterances of politeness strategies are written down, then the writer classified politeness
strategies from the novel.
In this thesis, the writer found all kinds of politeness strategies that are used by the
characters in the novel. They are bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness and off
record strategy. Then the characters used the politeness strategies to show appropriate manner in
particular situations in an attempt to achieve and maintain successful social relationships to the
hearer.
This thesis hopefully useful to improve student‟s understanding about politeness
strategies and how to use them on literary work especially novel. It could be a reference for them
in analyzing politeness strategies because novel much serves conversations in which the
politeness strategies occur. Additionally, this thesis can stimulate the students of English
Literature to know more about discourse analysis especially conversational principles which
focuses on politeness strategies
ANALISIS TERJEMAHAN KALIMAT YANG MENGAKOMODASI TINDAK TUTUR KOMISIF PADA NOVEL INSURGENT KARYA VERONICA ROTH
Get PDFPenelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis terjemahan kalimat yang mengakomodasi
tindak tutur komisif pada novel Insurgent karya Veronica Roth. Tujuan penelitian ini
adalah untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) jenis-jenis tindak tutur komisif yang muncul pada novel
Insurgent, (2) teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan untuk menerjemahkan kalimat yang
mengakomodasi tindak tutur komisif pada novel Insurgent, (3) kualitas terjemahan dari
segi dan keterbacaan kalimat yang mengakomodasi tindak tutur komisif pada novel
Insurgent. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif-kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian
ini adalah dokumen berupa novel Insurgent karya Veronica Roth dan juga informan yang
menilai kualitas terjemahan. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah kalimat yang
mengakomodasi tindak tutur komisif pada novel Insurgent dan informasi mengenai teknik
penerjemahan dan kualitas terjemahan yang diberikan oleh informan. Teknik pengumpulan
data dilakukan dengan analisis dokumen, kuesioner, dan Focus Group Discussion (FGD).
Pada penelitian ini, telah ditemukan 10 jenis tindak tutur komisif pada novel insurgent
yaitu: (1) tindak tutur komisif merencanakan, (2) berjanji, (3) menawarkan diri, (4)
mengancam, (5) menolak, (6)menawarkan, (7) setuju, (8) berkaul, (9) menjamin, (10) tidak
menjamin. Lebih lanjut, pada penelitian ini masing-masing jenis tindak tutur komisif
ditemukan sebanyak berikut ini: (1) merencanakan ditemukan sebesar 24,17%, (2) berjanji
24,17%, (3) menawarkan diri 20%, (4) mengancam 14,17%, (5) menolak 6,67%, (6)
menawarkan 5,83%, (7) setuju 2,50%, (8) berkaul 0,83%, (9) menjamin 0,83%, (10) tidak
menjamin 0,83%. Terdapat 16 teknik yang digunakan untuk menerjemahan kalimat yang
mengakomodasi tindak tutur komisif pada novel Insurgent yaitu pemadanan lazim 58,97%,
variasi 21,25%, implisitasi, 4,91%% modulasi 4,05%, eksplisitasi 3,69%, peminjaman
murni 1,84%, reduksi 1,23%, transposisi 0,85%, penambahan 0,61%, partikularisasi
0,49%, amplifikasi linguistik 0,49%, literal 0,48%, kreasi diskursif 0,37%, generalisasi
0,25%, subtitusi 0,25% dan kompresi linguistik 0, 25%. Teknik pemadanan lazim
merupakan teknik yang paling sering muncul di setiap jenis tindak tutur komisif. Dalam
penelitian ini menunjukan keterbacaan mendapatkan nilai sempurna yaitu 3.00. Seluruh
terjemahan kata, istilah teknik, frasa, klausa, dan kalimat dapat mudah dipahami oleh
pembaca. Sehingga, seluruh terjemahan mendapat memiliki keterbacaan tinggi
