The article reveals the problems of the unfinished artworks. The methodological principle is the comparison of philosophical-aesthetic, literary and art criticism approaches. The author analyzes the theoretical basis for the definition of the concepts of “open/unfinished”, reviews the theoretical related definitions as “non-finito”, “openness”, “completeness”, “perfection”, “integrity”, “embodiment”. Attention is paid to the role of technology in determining the characteristics of completeness of an artwork. An unfinished artwork is regarded as “an interrupted”, as a visual existential metaphor and as a creative resource. The author formulates the idea of the history of art as the history of the non-become
Compensations for the dialect features of the original in the translation of D. Mikhailovitch’s novel "Petria’s Wreath" from serbian into russian
In this publication, the author considers ways to achieve stylistic equivalence between the original text and the translation in the case when the original literary text is written in a dialect and many of its features do not have direct correspondences in the language of translation. The Russian translation of the novel "Petria's Wreath" by D. Mikhailovich, made by O. D. Kutasova, chosen as the subject of the study, is analyzed using the typology of translation compensations proposed by V. K. Lanchikov and M. A. Yakovleva, and a method for assessing the quality of such translation using A. Popovich's system of stylistic shifts.
Since we are talking about a literary text written in a dialect, the problems of the article are at the intersection of translation studies, comparative stylistics (in its functional aspect) and dialectology (as an auxiliary discipline).
Analyzing a number of examples of the translation technique of O. D. Kutasova, the author comes to the conclusion that the best way to compensate for the inevitable when translating a dialect (or consistently stylized as a dialect) text is to transfer it to the national vernacular of the language of translation, which makes it possible to reproduce the stylistic invariant of the original text in translation. The concrete examples of stylistic compensations given by the author, used in the translation of the novel "Petria's Wreath", allow us to be convinced of the richness of the artistic means available to the translator, who turns to vernacular to translate the dialect text

This publication targets college-level learners. In a very reader-friendly, engaging, and informative style, this study-guide explains to the beginning writers the most essential aspects of writing for academic purposes. Every chapter and each section of it focuses on a specific question, which also adds to comprehensiveness of the information discussed and clarified by the author. Guptill addresses her reading audiences in a friendly and inclusive manner which may also contribute to the college students’ ability to engage with this reading and deeper comprehend the meaning of the conveyed ideas.<br><br>This publication appears to be accurately written. Moreover, this book is composed in a very good academic English language. Additionally, it includes an entire chapter on proofreading, editing, and mechanics. The author does not seem to be biased in her discussion of the issues with the academic writing. On the contrary, this author's role may be viewed as a liaison between a beginning, struggling student-writer and faculty. Guptill attempts to balance the professor to student communication on writing within academe. The rich information she is providing is accurate and up to date. Thus, Writing in College: From Competence to Excellence can be considered a reliable source of information.<br><br>Guptill refers in her current book to the recent research publications most of which were published during the first two decades of the 21st century. As anticipated, the topics this author addresses will stay relevant to the field of teaching students the academic writing strategies and skills for quite a long time. The content of Guptill's publication is not expected to become obsolete in a short period of time as a large number of students enter colleges and universities with their underdeveloped writing skills. Additionally, it seems quite natural and explainable that the first year(s) students might have never had any sufficient exposure to the knowledge on the expectations of the academic writing, such as literature review, research report, etc. So, it may be concluded that the book Writing in College: From Competence to Excellence by Amy Guptill will not become outdated and will not need too many updates soon.<br><br>Guptill's text presents a very clearly written and well-explained piece of college reading. This author supplies every chapter with the examples positioned within the adequate contexts. All the terminology used in the classes concerning with writing for academic purposes is thoroughly explained. The author exemplary demonstrates the difference between the everyday spoken English language, texting, and professional and academic writing. This book is written in lucid and accessible prose the purpose of which is to make the complicated ideas easy to understand. So, the clarity of all the detailed notions seems to be outstanding.<br><br>"Writing in College: From Competence to Excellence" by Amy Guptill is internally consistent in terms of its framework. Many significant attributes and terminology used in the field are consistently present throughout this entire publication. The tone of this text is steadily even within the selected by this author frame. So, Guptill not only explains how to write but also demonstrates it via her publication. <br><br>One of the best features of this publication is its modularity. The author divides her text into chapters, sections, and subsections. Importantly, these smaller sections frame is consistent and makes it easy for audiences to read while knowing what to expect in every following, similarly structured chapter. The chapters, sections, subsections, and blocks with the supplemental information have headings and subheadings. The additional information aligns well with the content of the chapter or section it supplements without causing interruptions in the reading process. So, the modularity of this publication seems to be very thoughtfully streamlined.<br><br>Organization of this publication is outstanding. The topics are presented in a logical and clear fashion. The book chapters and sections are evenly distributed in terms of their volume and content load. Focusing on a beginning writer, including the first-generation in college student, this text is mindfully organized.<br><br>Thanks to the modern days' affordances of the internet-based reading, the book by Guptill contains the links to the additional sources mentioned within its chapters or in connection to their content. This feature allows the audience to easily navigate between the different reading platforms and choose the appropriate time for doing so. For example, different readers might prefer to explore the provided links prior, during, or after reading basing their preferences on the level of their interest in each of the discussed aspects. Adding the links, rather than chunks of the texts, facilitates the flow of the reading process in the audience and minimizes or eliminates the distracting effect.<br><br>Guptill's book presents a well-written text without grammatical errors. It may serve students as an example to follow.<br><br>The book "Writing in College: From Competence to Excellence" by Amy Guptill does not contain any culturally insensitive or offensive language. This reading seems to be highly welcoming and inclusive for both the Domestic and International students from diverse backgrounds.<br>With the publisher's and author's kind permission, I will add this book as supplemental resource for my students in my Writing courses. <br>P.S. I truly loved reading this book and will use its content in my instruction with salient reference to its author, full APA citation, and the link to this text. <br>Thank you.<br>Sincerely,<br>Dr. Olga Gould-Yakovleva<br>Assistant Professor,<br>ENMU</p>
CONSTRUCTIVENESS AND DESTRUCTIVENESS IN CULTURAL CREATIVITY AS THE HUMAN SELF-IDENTIFICATION (EXPLICATION OF SOME METHODOLOGICAL IDEAS OF J. BURCKHARDT)
The author offers to expand the understanding of human destructiveness, and to explicate this concept from the realm of psychoanalysis into the field of integral research of human world-attitude. An integral approach to the study of destructiveness requires its comparison with the phenomenon of constructiveness. The destructiveness and constructiveness are the active factors of cultural and creative self-identification of a person
Portugal on the eve of presidential elections
In 2015, Portugal entered a new political cycle with the main actors being the left-wing parties under the auspices of the Socialist Party and its leader Antonio Costa who took over as prime minister. The author analyzes the results of the socialist government activities carried out with the parliamentary support of the left. The author also studies the electoral process of 2017-2019, the dynamics of strengthening the position of the Socialist Party, and significance of the results of elections to national authorities. The trajectory of the country’s membership in the European Union, the history of the results of the European Parliament elections, including the 2019 elections, and the positions of the main political parties are analyzed. In connection with force majeure circumstances arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation in the healthcare system was also studied and a program of the authorities to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection is presented in the article. The author touches upon the economic consequences of the pandemic, especially on those industries that will be most affected – tourism in particular. The article contains a brief forecast of the alignment of political forces on the eve of the presidential elections in 2021. The key is the idea that the pandemic will make possible adjustments in terms of the image and ratings of the country’s leaders and other participants in the election race. While presidential election results are usually a foregone conclusion in the event that a current head of state runs for a second term (as it is shown in the brief historical overview leading up to the article), the prime minister’s growing leadership can make adjustments to the final outcomes
Should Fundamental Rights to Privacy and Data Protection be a Part of the EU's International Trade ‘Deals’?
AbstractThis article discusses ways in which the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and post-GATS free trade agreements may limit the EU's ability to regulate privacy and personal data protection as fundamental rights. After discussing this issue in two dimensions – the vertical relationship between trade and national and European Union (EU) law, and the horizontal relationship between trade and human rights law – the author concludes that these limits are real and pose serious risks.Inspired by recent developments in safeguarding labour, and environmental standards and sustainable development, the article argues that privacy and personal data protection should be part of, and protected by, international trade deals made by the EU. The EU should negotiate future international trade agreements with the objective of allowing them to reflect the normative foundations of privacy and personal data protection. This article suggests a specific way to achieve this objective.</jats:p

Asymptotic Stress Field in the Vicinity of the Mixed-Mode Crack in Damaged Materials Under Creep Conditions
AbstractThe creep crack problems in damaged materials under mixed mode loading under creep-damage coupled formulation are considered. The class of the self-similar solutions to the plane creep crack problems in a damaged medium under mixed-mode loading is given. With the similarity variable and the self-similar representation of the solution for a power-law creeping material and the Kachanov- Rabotnov power-law damage evolution equation the near crack-tip stresses, creep strain rates and continuity distributions for plane stress conditions are obtained. The similarity solutions are based on the hypothesis of the existence of the completely damaged zone near the crack tip. It is shown that the asymptotical analysis of the near crack-tip fields gives rise to the nonlinear eigenvalue problems. The technique permitting to find all the eigenvalues numerically is proposed and numerical solutions of the nonlinear eigenvalue problems arising from the mixed-mode crack problems in a power-law medium under plane stress conditions are obtained. Using the approach developed the eigenvalues different from the eigenvalues corresponding to the Hutchinson-Rice-Rosengren (HRR) problem are found. Having obtained the eigenspectra and eigensolutions the geometry of the completely damaged zone in the vicinity of the crack tip is found for all values of the mixity parameter
The Hero’s Type in Heroic Legends of the Evenk But Clan
The article considers the type of a hero from the heroic legends of the Evenk But clan. The heroic legend of the But clan is an archaic epos, the epos of the tribal community which is shown in plots and images of the epic narrators. The legends of the Evenk clan But have high-quality records and are voluminous in content. During the study, the author reveals the features reflecting the material and spiritual culture of the Evenks, which manifest themselves in military-hunting equipment, housing, and heroes’ clothing. By analyzing images of heroes of the But clan, the author highlights the features that reflect the Evenk ethnic culture. The author describes hero’s dwelling, typical to the ancient population of Siberia, describes his clothing (dressed appropriately for the conditions of the nomadic lifestyle of the Evenks; military and hunting gear) and his methods of hunting. The author concludes that the legens of the Evenk clan But describe a typical type of an Evenk epic hero, i.e., “evenki-beye”, “uryangkay-Evenks”. The type of a hero from the heroic legends of the But clan reflects the material and spiritual culture of the Evenks, which manifest themselves in military-hunting equipment, housing, and heroes’ clothing and deeds. For example, the clothing of the hero - mukuke is determined by the conditions of the nomadic way of life of the Evenks (the type of hunting on foot); the hero hunts using the most ancient Evenk way of hunting - by the way of rut, etc. The aim of this work is in the description, identifying the type of the Evenk warrior in the heroic legends of the But clan
