Participatory and inclusive research? Ethical reflexions about interviews with children with particular reference to adulthood
In the paper, the methodological approach of the interview is reflected upon, with a focus on four demands on the recording of children’s perspectives, how the researchers’ adulthood can and must be considered from a research ethical point of view in the context of childlike attachments and generational order. In the sequence re-analysis of conflictual and less productive interview sequences, so-called ad hoc practices are particularly evident in which researchers (re)produce adulthood and generational order in the uniqueness of the concrete interview situation despite parallel interest in the child’s obstinacy. These so-called “turning points” offer impulses for the adjustment of the concept of appropriateness and the expansion of individual research competences in child interviews
Self-efficacy experiences in day care and primary school from the children's perspective: A starting point for the reflection of didactic and methodological competences of adult educators
Velten K. Self-efficacy experiences in day care and primary school from the children's perspective: A starting point for the reflection of didactic and methodological competences of adult educators. Journal of Early Childhood Research. 2021;20(2):131-143.This paper discusses self-efficacy as a key factor in children managing the transition to primary school, the threshold to formal education and further learning processes. In presenting results of a qualitative-longitudinal interview study of German preschool and primary school children's perspectives on their self-efficacy experiences, it furnishes evidence for enhancing self-efficacy in pedagogical practice in a so-called mastery climate. Co-determined or self-determined opportunities for playing without adult intervention prove to be central in this to children's self-efficacy. Following on from this, the discussion will make references to the pedagogical relevance of child-led or unsupervised play for the promotion of self-efficacy in both settings. In addition, based on the reflection of the concept of generational order, the study points to concrete starting points to focus on necessary didactic and methodological competences of adult educators for the appropriate design of child-oriented co-determined or self-determined learning settings
High-resolution spectroscopy of gaseous 83m Kr conversion electrons with the KATRIN experiment
© 2020 The Author(s). Published by IOP Publishing Ltd. In this work, we present the first spectroscopic measurements of conversion electrons originating from the decay of metastable gaseous 83mKr with the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino (KATRIN) experiment. The obtained results represent one of the major commissioning milestones for the subsequent direct neutrino mass measurement with KATRIN. The successful campaign demonstrates the functionalities of the KATRIN beamline. Precise measurement of the narrow K-32, L3-32, and N2,3-32 conversion electron lines allowed to verify the eV-scale energy resolution of the KATRIN main spectrometer necessary for competitive measurement of the absolute neutrino mass scale
