Il nuovo Museo degli Innocenti a Firenze. La banca dati 3D per l’elaborazione, la verifica ed il controllo del processo progettuale
La possibilità di un’acquisizione morfometrica digitale ad alta accuratezza geometrica sta modificando lo sviluppo dei processi di indagine in molti settori: dai beni culturali al patrimonio storico-artistico fino alla progettazione architettonica.
Il progetto del MUDI – il nuovo Museo degli Innocenti a Firenze - si inserisce in questo contesto: l’intervento di progettazione ha visto la possibilità di integrare il processo compositivo con modelli morfometrici ad alta densità informativa.
Misure e piani di riferimento si intrecciano a schizzi e logiche compositive, rilevare e progettare sono due processi profondamente diversi; l’uno parte in maniera imprescindibile dal reale, l’oggetto del rilievo, l’altro più spesso prende origine dall’immaginazione volta a pensare, progettare nel futuro quanto ancora non c’è, per concretizzarsi il primo, in restituzioni grafiche, frutto di un atto di conoscenza, che raccontano l’architettura; il secondo, in elaborati che, grazie all’inventiva e ad indicazioni metriche, prefigurano lo spazio da costruire.
Nel caso del progetto MUDI il rilievo è stato utilizzato come strumento di ausilio alla progettazione nel momento di elaborazione del progetto definitivo e come dispositivo di controllo di forme e misure nel corso dello sviluppo del progetto esecutivo, la fase più tecnica dello sviluppo del processo compositivo, in cui si impone la necessità di un controllo spaziale con un’accuratezza di carattere millimetrico. In virtù delle sue caratteristiche intrinseche di precisione, il rilievo morfometrico riesce infatti a svelare e chiarificare la complessità e l’articolazione volumetrica dell’oggetto del rilievo: oltre a fornire una possibilità di verifica di tipo metrico grazie all’estrazione diretta di misure puntuali, il data base tridimensionale permette anche una capacità investigativa morfologica, e quindi un livello di conoscenza del manufatto architettonico, altrimenti difficilmente raggiungibile.The opportunities offered by the high exactness’s digital morphometric acquisition are influencing the development of investigation processes in many fields: cultural, historical and artistic heritage and architectural design.
The MUDI project – the new Museo degli Innocenti in Florence – benefits by this opportunity: the project combined the design process with the high density information of morphometric models.
Measurements and datum levels interlace with sketches and themes of composition but relief and design are procedures completely different.
The relief is constrained to start from the object and its result is a graphic reconstruction that recounts the architecture.
The design born from imagination, thinking about something that still does not exist and its results are drawings that foreshadows the space to be built.
During the MUDI project, the 3D laser scanner relief was used as useful tool for the building plan stage and as an essential instrument for the control of shapes and dimensions during the execution plan stage.
The execution design is the most technical step of the entire design process and it is necessary the control of the space with millimetric accuracy, especially dealing with the restoration of monumental buildings. Thanks to its intrinsic feature of precision, the morphometric relief shows and explains the complexity and the volumetric lay-out of the object: with the tridimensional data base it is possible the metric check via the direct extraction of measurement and it is also possible the morphological investigation, an incomparable level of knowledge of the building
The International Prize for Sustainable Architecture: Achievements and potentials
The International Prize for Sustainable Architecture, now in its seventh edition, arose from the important international manifestation of the tenth anniversary of the foundation of the Ferrara School of Architecture, held in 2003.
Conceived and promoted by the School itself and Fassa Bortolo company, the Award is intended to redirect attention to the necessity of re-examining the relationship between the process of construction and the habitat through the pursuit of compatibility among economic productivity, the safeguarding of resources and the quality of the environment.
The spirit and the goal are to contribute to the research of a system of development in the building sector that is more sustainable than our current model, which has lead to a state of deterioration and pollution, bringing us to the verge of a global crisis of the Earth’s entire ecological system.
The Prize therefore provides incentives for and promotes architecture that is in greater harmony with the environment and designed for the needs of man, capable of satisfying the needs of our generations without limiting those of the future by the indiscriminate consumption of resources and the production of pollution.
It was created from an understanding of the importance of sharing with a large public the results of research in the field of civil construction, recognizing in architecture the fundamental role of environmental qualification, education and social promotion, as well as the responsibility of representing the concrete expression of cultural development and of the society’s collective interests.
Receiving every edition more of one hundred submitted projects the Prize during the past years has become one of the most important European event for sustainable architecture

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
