IoT platform-enabled decision-making for maintenance service delivery in PSS context: a case study
Nowadays, being able to guarantee high performance of the assets sold and be responsive to a maintenance request is considered fundamental to keep lasting relationships with customers, especially in a product-service system (PSS) scenario, where service is an important part of the overall offering. Digitalisation offers manufacturers new possibilities for monitoring (remotely) asset behaviour and intercepting failures before they happen. Thus, more and more manufacturing companies are setting up IoT platforms to collect data and offer services like remote monitoring and/or preventive/predictive maintenance. The paper discusses the case of an Italian manufacturing company that is using an IoT platform to improve its maintenance service offering. Moreover, implications related to the sustainability of the PSS operations and the effects that maintenance has on sustainability are investigated

The burden of attempted suicide: The attitude of emergency services workers
Introduction The great global burden of suicide requires specific
preventive strategies focused on emergency services (ES) workers,
providing first aid after attempted suicide.
Objectives To investigate the approach of ES workers toward
attempted suicides, and to assess work-related stress and teamwork
attitude as variables likely to influence suicide risk
perception.
Methods A total of 265 ES workers (73 medical doctors, 130
nurses, 62 health and social care workers) from 3 hospitals in the
area of Modena (Northern Italy) were involved. In a group setting,
titles from local newspapers reporting about suicides were
read, and ES workers were asked to fill in 3 psychometric scale
questionnaires (SUIATT, MBI and SAQ).
Results The questionnaires returned were 88 (33%), 47% (n = 42)
were filled by women, median age was 40 years. Doctors group had
the highest response rate (60%). Burnout levels were intermediate
at the Emotional Exhaustion subscale, severe at the Depersonalization
subscale and mild at the Professional Efficacy subscale.
Eighteen percent recorded a good team perception, 33% had a good
perception of their work conditions. SUIATT subscales showed a
restrictive attitude toward suicide, regardless of hospital and task.
Discussion No associations emerged among SUIATT, MBI and SAQ
subscales; male sex alone correlated to the SUIATT factor “rationality/
mental alteration”, suggesting more “tolerance” of suicidal
behaviour.
Conclusions It is crucial to raise awareness among ES workers
on this issue, since those workers considering suicide as “more
acceptable” are more likely to recognise its signs
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
The personality traits, anxiety and depression, produce different periodontal outcomes: a 18-month follow-up study
Aim: Psychological attitude, depression, anxiety and oral hygiene on oral health have been recorded and correlated in subjects with untreated periodontal conditions. Methods: Periodontal data of forty systemically healthy-patients, affected by moderate periodontitis, were collected at baseline and 18 months later. The dental belief (DBQ) was self-administered to patients: a health-value scale (HV); two adherence-intent scales (AI1, AI2), were scored separately. The psychological variables were assessed by questionnaires administered by one expert operator. Personality traits were grouped into cluster including all the personality traits (cluster-A: paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal; cluster-B: borderline, antisocial, narcissistic, histrionic; cluster-C: avoidant, dependent, obsessive-compulsive) anxiety and depression were also assessed. Patients were instructed to oral hygiene measures, treated with cause-related therapy and with adjunctive surgical therapy, when needed. Data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation (m±SD). The comparisons were performed by nonparametric tests, Spearman correlation coefficients between variables were calculated and the relationships between the dependent variables and the independent ones were examined through the standard multiple regression models. The alpha Cronbach reliability coefficient for each HV, AI1 and AI2 scales was calculated by the item analysis procedure of Stata. The level of significance of the applied tests was the standard value P=0.05. Statistical analysis was performed by Stata, version 14.00. Results: Cluster-A and B showed a consistent tendency for reduced levels of oral hygiene (increased full-mouth-plaque-score -FMPS), independently by therapy and supportive periodontal therapy scheme applied. This effect appeared particularly enhanced in correlation with poorly compliant attitude and unfavorable baseline dental indices. On the contrary, cluster-C seemed to be linked to clinically better indices, particularly in terms of full-mouth-bleeding-score (FMBS) and pocket depth. Anxiety resulted directly correlated with depression, cluster-B and C, but inversely with FMPS and the patient’s requirement for professional oral-care. Additionally, depression was directly correlated with FMBS. Conclusions: Anxiety and depression, both affective disturbances, have a reciprocal link, and opposite effect on plaque and bleeding score. Personality traits (stable throughout life) play a significant role in periodontal condition and therapy outcomes that are not entirely ascribable to the lack of observance of oral hygiene rules, since study design and statistical analysis take in account also hygienic and behavior parameters. The knowledge of psychological traits of patients but also of anxiety and depression score, could greatly improve periodontal treatment outcomes
Development and Implementation of an IoT Platform to Enable Smart Maintenance
IoT solutions represent one of the most powerful approaches towards asset management and maintenance management supporting, through data elaboration and integration, a multi-user environment that can be adopted to monitor machines and guide decision-making at different levels. Besides several studies discussed the benefits that may be achieved, few studies have discussed in a comprehensive way how to implement such a complex process that should consider a systematic approach in the development of the infrastructure, platform content, analytics and internal processes reengineering. To clarify the path towards the development of this structure, the presented chapter describes an IoT platform implantation in a manufacturing company. Specifically, the case study illustrates the steps that have been followed to develop and implement the IoT solution, namely: (1) definition of the platform desired functionalities; (2) reengineering of the business processes affected by the platform; (3) development of the proof of concept of the platform dashboards, also considering the data to be sent to the platform, and (4) the implementation of the IoT platform with the connection of customer machines
Implementation of IoT Platform’s Dashboards for the Visualisation of Dynamic KPIs: Insights from a Case Study
Nowadays, Internet of Things (IoT) platforms are becoming a huge opportunity for companies to collect data from connected machinery and analyse them to increase efficiency in production, optimize maintenance and introduce personalized service offerings. Specifically, multiple users can monitor real-time data and act based on updated information. Nevertheless, few studies are systematically focused on the implementation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the IoT environment. Based on an empirical case study, the article presents the implementation of dynamic KPI dashboards for an IoT platform, showing the challenges to face related to the trade-off between user desire and companies’ technological readiness
