Genetic parameters for milk somatic cell score and relationships with production traits in primiparous dairy sheep
A total of 13,066 first-lactation test-day records of 2,277 Valle del Belice ewes from 17 flocks were used to estimate genetic parameters for somatic cell scores (SCS) and milk production traits, using a repeatability test-day animal model. Heritability estimates were low and ranged from 0.09 to 0.14 for milk, fat, and protein yields, and contents. For SCS, the heritability of 0.14 was relatively high. The repeatabilities were moderate and ranged from 0.29 to 0.47 for milk production traits. The repeatability for SCS was 0.36. Flock-test-day explained a large proportion of the variation for milk production traits, but it did not have a big effect on SCS. The genetic correlations of fat and protein yields with fat and protein percentages were positive and high, indicating a strong association between these traits. The genetic correlations of milk production traits with SCS were positive and ranged from 0.16 to 0.31. The results showed that SCS is a heritable trait in Valle del Belice sheep and that single-trait selection for increased milk production will also increase SCS.</p
The Role and Function of Individual Freedom and Individual Reality in Counseling from an Existential Viewpoint as Represented by Adrian van Kaam
The purpose of this paper is to provide an inquiry into the role and function of individual freedom and individual reality in the counseling situation. The scope and focus of this information will be based on an existential viewpoint as represented by Dr. Adrian van Kaam. The topic will be studied by reviewing material written by van Kaam in the areas of existential freedom, existent ial reality, and their implications on the relationship between the counselor and the client. According to van Kaam, the aim of existential counseling is to make the client feel at home in his real world by reshaping his phenomenal world (van Kaam, 1962, p. 403). The phenomenal world is taken to imply the world as perceived by the individual. By reviewing the opinions of van Kaam regarding the role of individual freedom and individual reality in the context of the counselor-client relationship, an existential viewpoint will emerge to highlight van Kaam\u27s thoughts on the subject
Transcendent formation anthropology and the personal constructs theory of Van Kaam: A critical formative analysis
Human and social sciences go hand in hand with natural sciences and techniques. Formation science or science of formative spirituality joined human and social sciences as one of their youngest additions in the 1980\u27s. Formation science is a human science. It fosters in all its methodological categories new designs and modes that are more qualitative, experiential, and empirical-experiential. Its material object is human life as foundationally human or spiritual. Its formal object is concrete human formation. Formation is the developmental, dynamic essence of human life itself. In dealing with people, van Kaam was struck by the image or concept of the human presented by religio-spiritual traditions as spiritual. He dreamt of constructing one kind of psychology that would be able to integrate at times various schools of psychology, with all their rich contributions to understanding of human nature, and religious perspectives as well. This study is an attempt to examine and analyze systematically, the formation science of van Kaam, its underlying transcendent formation anthropology, and its suprastructure, that is, its personal constructs theory. Thus this study discusses these points: I. Transcendent formation anthropology with its characteristics, its philosophical assumptions. II. The personal constructs theory of van Kaam, where are discussed first, his personal constructs of classical psychologies, such as, the four forces of psychology, cognitive psychology, and traditional Eastern psychologies that underlie Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism then foundational structural effects of his personality formation and finally, his proper personal constructs structure.
Globally, the study uses the descriptive analytical appraisal method of research. It makes use of the descriptive developmental method, but the analysis follows the methodology conceived by formation science. In this study, the researcher first, analyzes Adrian van Kaam\u27s methodology and then using this methodology, discusses his formation anthropology and personal constructs theory. The researcher follows the formative process: appraisal, dialogical attention, comparison, and selection at the identification of generalizable facets of diverse contemporary classical personality theories. The research process also includes dialogical articulation followed by elucidation approach. Elucidation is mainly analytical-theoretical. Related to the auxiliary sources, the process will use the translation, transposition, and integration that enable the researcher to assimilate the findings of the auxiliary sources, after consultation, into his research.Using the Nine Questions of van Kaam for formation traditions, the researcher discusses in the Vietnamese context, how the classical faith and form traditions, such as Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, and Christianity are articulated by his transcendent formation anthropology and his transcendent formation personal constructs theory. Implications relating to the young Vietnamese are also pointed out
On an attempt at constructing a meta-psychology.
Chodziło mu o stworzenie metateoretycznej bazy dla możliwie wszystkich z natury nieporównywalnych do siebie ujęć psychologicznych w celu umożliwienia im owocnego dialogu. The recently deceased Adrian van Kaam CSSp is considered to be one of the founders of phenomenologico-existential approach in psychology. His works stand at the beginning of humanist and existential psychology in the United States. Dialogue between psychology and philosophy, one of his postulates, is a common characteristic of this period in the development of psychology. While similar to V. Frankl’s multi-dimensional anthropology, Van Kaam’s research project appears to have been much more ambitious. His aim was to construct a meta-theoretical foundation for all the essentially different psychological currents in order to enable fruitful dialogue among them. However, Van Kaam’s proposal was not welcomed enthusiastically by the psychological community, and the author himself remains unknown to the general public, being only occasionally mentioned in manuals of the history of psychology. This paper is an attempt to provide the Polish audience with a more exhaustive presentation of van Kaam’s scientific heritage in the fields of psychological theory, psychotherapy, and scientific spirituality as well as to explain why his research has not become an integral part of the history of psychology
