A "backgating" model including self-heating for III-V FETs

    No full text
A new approach, which takes into account both traps and thermal phenomena is proposed for the accurate modeling of deviations between static and dynamic (e.g., pulsed) drain current characteristics in III-V FETs. The model, which is based on the well known "backgating" concept, can easily be identified on the basis of conventional static drain current characteristics and small-signal, low-frequency S parameters. In the paper, the model formulation is developed along with some hints on its implementation in commercially available CAD tools for HB simulations. Experimental validation, consisting of comparisons between simulated and measured pulsed drain current characteristics, is also provided

Protists’ microbiome: A fine-scale, snap-shot field study on the ciliate Euplotes

Host-microbiome relationships play a fundamental role in the evolution and ecology of any living being. As unicellular organisms, protists represent a unique eukaryotic model to investigate selection mechanisms of the prokaryotic microbiome at the cellular level. Field investigations are central to disentangle relative importance of selective drivers in nature. Here we performed an analysis on data from a snap-shot field study reported previously on bacterial microbiomes associated to natural populations of protist ciliates of the genus Euplotes to detect at a fine scale any influence of habitat and/or host identity in microbiome selection. Comparative analyses revealed environment at a relatively large scale (sampling area) as the main driv-ing factor in shaping prokaryotic communities' structures. No evidence of habitat as key-factor emerged when a smaller spa-tial scale was considered (pond/channel or site). When only microbiomes of ciliates from the same site were compared, a clear assessment on the influence of host identity at the species level was not achieved, probably due to the small and unbalanced number of individuals for the two considered host species. Starting from this point, wider sampling campaigns will contribute in the future to depict a general view of the drivers influencing the prokaryotic microbiomes of natural protist populations.(c) 2022 Elsevier GmbH. Fast extraction of accurate I/V models for harmonically-tuned power amplifier design

    No full text
This paper presents an innovative extraction technique for the modelling of transistor I/V characteristics. Starting from few continuous wave measurements carried out at 10 MHz by a vector load-pull measurement system, it is demonstrated how the extracted I/V model shows good predictions in harmonically tuned operations. As a case study, a 0.5-μm GaN HEMT with 1-mm of periphery is considered. The extracted model has been validated through comparisons with vector nonlinear measurements carried out in condition very different from the ones exploited in the identification phase

    Con-signing. Some notes on translation

    No full text
This article proposes some considerations on literary translation, starting from the problematic concept of appropriation. Engaging in an interdisciplinary dialogue with poets Antonella Anedda and Vittorio Sereni, and philosophers such as Ortega Y Gasset, Jacques Derrida and Antoine Berman, the author interrogates the ethical relationship to the other that lies at the core of any translation practice

Beginning on stage. Another interpretation of the prologue of Apuleius’ Metamorphoses

    No full text
This paper aims to reconsider the problem of the speaker’s identity in the first lines of Apuleius’ Metamorphoses: who is the person, in the prologue, who says ‘I’? This problem is intertwined with two precise exegetical questions, to which a satisfactory answer has not yet been given: the first concerns the aporia introduced by the expression «quis ille», the second has to do with the interpretation of the sentence «iam haec equidem ipsa vocis immutatio desultoriae scientiae stilo quem accersimus respondet». The author first examines the problem as well as the solutions suggested by scholars so far. He then proceeds to present a new exegetical hypothesis aimed at solving the difficulty

Understanding Ransom Kidnapping and Its Duration

    No full text
What factors drive the length of a kidnapping experience? A theoretical model is developed to conduct comparative statics. A unique data set covering all kidnappings for ransom in Sardinia between 1960 and 2010 is analyzed. Factors related to the ability to pay and cost of abduction matter. The effect of policies aimed at deterring the crime have mixed effects on its duration

Sull’intromissione autoriale di Apuleio in Met. 11.27

    No full text
This paper discusses the problem of Apuleius’ intromission in the fictional world of his novel (Met. 11.27), where the adjective Madaurensem, which refers to the hometown of Apuleius instead of that of the protagonist, disrupts the coherence of the diegetic world. The first part of the article consists in a critical discussion of various scholarly interpretations; in the second part, the author offers a different narratological analysis through the conceptual tool of metalepsis and, finally, he formulates a new hypothesis for interpreting the passage
