Development of Aluminium Based Silicon Carbide Particulate Metal Matrix Composite for Spur Gear
AbstractMMCs are made by dispersing a reinforcing material into a metal matrix. They are prepared by powder metallurgy and casting, although several technical challenges exist with casting technology. Achieving a homogeneous distribution of reinforcement within the matrix is one such challenge, and this affects directly on the properties and quality of composite.The aluminum alloy composite materials consist of high strength, high stiffness, more thermal stability, more corrosion and wear resistance, and more fatigue life. aluminum alloy materials found to be the best alternative with its unique capacity of designing the materials to give required properties.In this work a composite is developed by adding silicon carbide in Aluminum metal by mass ratio 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10%. The composite is prepared by stir casting technique. Mechanical tests such as hardness test, microstructure test are conducted. It is proposed to use this material for power transmitting elements such as gears which are subjected to continuous loading. Finally modeling and finite element analysis of gear is done using CATIA and ANSYS 14.0.In case of increased silicon carbide content, the hardness, and material toughness are enhanced. From the results it is concluded that composite material such as aluminum silicon carbide is one of the option as a material for power transmission gears
From General Relativity to Quantum Gravity
To appear in \emph{General Relativity and Gravitation: A Centennial Survey}, commissioned by the International Society for General Relativity and Gravitation and to be published by Cambridge University Press. Abhay Ashtekar served as the `coordinating author' and combined the three contributionsInternational audienceIn general relativity (GR), spacetime geometry is no longer just a background arena but a physical and dynamical entity with its own degrees of freedom. We present an overview of approaches to quantum gravity in which this central feature of GR is at the forefront. However, the short distance dynamics in the quantum theory are quite different from those of GR and classical spacetimes and gravitons emerge only in a suitable limit. Our emphasis is on communicating the key strategies, the main results and open issues. In the spirit of this volume, we focus on a few avenues that have led to the most significant advances over the past 2-3 decades
STUDY OF EFFECT OF SOLID CONTAMINANTS IN THE LUBRICANT ON BALL BEARINGS VIBRATION
In deep groove ball bearings contamination of lubricant grease by solid particles is one of the main reason for early bearing failure. To deal with such problem, it is fundamental not only the use of reliable techniques concerning detection of solid contamination but also the investigation of the effects of certain contaminant characteristics on bearing performance. Nowadays the techniques such as vibration measurements are being increasingly used for on-time monitoring of machinery performance. The present work investigates the effect of lubricant contamination by solid particles on the dynamic behavior of rolling bearings, in order to determine the trends in the amounts of vibration affected by contamination in the Grease and by the bearing wear itself. Experimental tests are performed with Deep-groove ball bearings. The Dolomite powder in three concentration levels and different particle sizes was used to contaminate the grease. Vibration signals were analyzed in terms of Root Mean Square (RMS) values and also in terms of defect frequencies
Response of Various Vibration Parameters to the Condition Monitoring of Ball Bearing Used in Centrifugal Pumps
Health monitoring of bearings is one of the important tasks in many industries. A number of techniques are used for bearing fault detection in which vibration based signal analysis is the most commonly used technique. The current work emphasizes the comparison of some of the parameters of vibration acceleration signal such as Peak to Peak amplitude, Peak Amplitude and RMS amplitude which are used in the detection of defects in bearings. These parameters are measured at various loads and speeds with simulated defect on bearing parts. The graphs plotted depicts that Peak to Peak amplitude gives better defect detectability whether it is on outer ring, inner ring or on the ball. </jats:p
Solving lecture time tabling problem using GA
This paper present an implementation of a prototype to solve lecture time tabling problem. The author has employed the GA, a powerful global optimization algorithm, has capability to explore the search space adequately. Though, the presented prototype is in the initial stage, the author has presented a small piece of result and analysis demonstrates the working of the system.</p
