A correlation study of ACCUPLACER math cut scores, developmental math modules, math prep, and academic preparedness in the shared nursing program at Nicolet Area Technical College
Plan BThe purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between the current math ACCUPLACER cut score of 80% and the successful completion of the developmental math modules or math prep to academic preparedness in the shared practical nursing program at Nicolet Area Technical College. The study included three cohorts of nurses from June 2001 through June 2003. Seven questions were specifically addressed by the study. These questions were: 1) Of the number of students applying for the practical nursing program, how many achieve the 80% on the ACCUPLACER placement test?, 2) Is there a differential impact on student success on the first nursing math test based on developmental math modules, math prep, or an 80% on the first ACCUPLACER try?, 3) What is the relationship between students’ grades in math prep and their score on the first nursing math exam? 4) What is the relationship of students’ scores before taking the developmental math modules and their score on the first nursing math exam?, 5) What is the relationship of students ACCUPLACER cut score of 80% or better and the score on their first nursing math exam?, 6) What is the relationship of students’ scores before taking math prep or developmental math modules and their score on the first nursing math exam? and, 7) What is the number of practical nursing students that failed the practical nursing program based on inability to pass a nursing math exam on their third attempt
Abandoning Copyrights to Try to Cut Off Termination Rights
Can a copyright assignee cut off an author\u27s termination rights by abandoning the copyrights in a copyrighted work? Can an assignee or grantee circumvent the termination rights by requiring the author to abandon her contingent reversionary rights, or by structuring the grant as a grant for a term of years and requiring the author to abandon the reversion? Because these may appear to be unlikely questions, some context should be added in order to make them seem more likely

ANALYSIS OF GOODS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN THE COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATICS DEPARTMENT OF SERDANG BEDAGAI DISTRICT
The current problem is that the Serdang Bedagai district communication and informatics office is experiencing difficulties in managing incoming and outgoing goods. Management is currently carried out manually and cannot be viewed online so that many errors occur, one of which is a mismatch between the stock of goods recorded and the physical stock of existing goods. The goods management system that will be built in this study uses the waterfall model and PHP and HTML programming languages as well as CSS to design the web appearance. The system has 9 entities, namely: officer, user, sender, person in charge, goods, recipient, detail_recipient, expenditure and data_dinas. The results of the implementation of the proposed system are more optimal management of goods and help the performance of the warehouse admin in making real-time stock update reports and borrowing good
Safety of Supply Chain of Kenya’s Cut Flower Industry. Case of Kongoni River Farm
The article examines a logistics chain of Kenya cut flower industry with special emphasis on safety and security issues. The robust growth in this sector of Kenyan economy, important for the EU market, is endangered both because of security problems resulting from Kenya’s domestic political situation, imported terrorism from neighbouring Somalia, and underdevelopment of Kenyan transportation network. The author shows how Kenyan flower farmers try to overcome those obstacles. The research is based on field visit to Kongoni River Farm in central Kenya
Models of high energy ρρ,ρ̄ρ scattering
A phenomenological description is sought of the dynamics operating in high energy elastic hadron-hadron scattering. The predictions of a simple Pomeron and weak cut model of high energy elastic scattering are compared with the new and surprising ρ̄ρ data from the ISR and Sρ̄ρS Collider. The model, which gives a complete account of all the lower energy data, is incompatible with the unexpected energy dependence of the differential cross-section shown by the Collider data. Modifications within the original framework of the model are examined but found inadequate and it is concluded that new contributions are necessary. Two avenues are explored as likely candidates for the correct approach. The first approach considered is the possible existence of a small odd charge conjugation term with constant or increasing contribution to the cross-section. Two existing models of such an "Odderon" effect are studied which give good agreement with the new data but neither of which are entirely satisfactory. A reggeized Odderon contribution, analagous to these models, is examined and limitations are placed on its effect. The second possibility considered as a description of the additional contributions to the model are the correction terms necessary to prevent the violation of unitarity and the breaking of asymptotic bounds. An eikonalization model, in which a-channel unitarity is explicitly satisfied, is reviewed but several theoretical problems emerge due to the nature of the basic exchange and the model gives a relatively poor description of the data. A" similar model in which the born term is described by a Pomeron with the appropriate Regge phase is developed. This clears up some of the theoretical problems but is found to exaggerate the problems encountered in fitting the data and it is concluded that such an eikonal description is unlikely to work. A simple model of the unitarity corrections which gives a better chance of reproducing the data is proposed. The results of the phenomenology of the asymptotic and perturbative Reggeon field theory approaches to elastic scattering are briefly reviewed
Discourse studies of scientific popularisation: questioning the boundaries.
This article critiques the `dominant view' of the popularization of science that takes it as a one-way process of simplification, one in which scientific articles are the originals of knowledge that is then debased by translation for a public that is ignorant of such matters, a blank slate. Recent work is surveyed in several disciplines that questions the boundaries of scientific discourse and genres of popularization: who the actors are, how the discourses interact, what modes are involved, and what is communicated. Implications are drawn from these studies for discourse analysis
Numerical Analysis of Variations Distance Formulas on K Nearest Neighbors In Classifying Malaria Parasite Blood Cells
Malaria is one of the numerous acute and chronic diseases. Even malaria can pose a threat to a person's safety. The original cause of malaria was an infection with a protozoan of the genus Plasmodium, which was transmitted by the bite of a mosquito. This Anopheles mosquito parasite infects red blood cells throughout the body, resulting in an enlarged spleen. This research aims to make it easier for physicians to classify blood images as malaria-infected or not. If the input is a blood image, then SURF Feature Extraction will be used to extract the blood image. We therefore obtained weight results based on the extraction results. The weighted results generated by the SURF extraction process will be classified using the KNN Algorithm to determine whether or not an individual is infected with malaria. This study's tests compared various distance formulas utilized by the KNN classification method. Comparing the results of malaria blood image classification using the KNN classification method with variations in the distance formula, it is evident in table 7 that correlation is the optimal distance formula for malaria parasite blood cells recognition, followed by cosine. According to the results of KNN's tests, it is not optimal at classifying blood images containing malaria, but these results are categorized as goo
The indirect approach
Aid and conditionalities are the"carrots and sticks"of the conventional, direct approach to fostering economic development. The economic theory of agency is the most sophisticated treatment of the direct carrots-and-sticks approach to influencing human behavior. Considering the outcomes of the conventional approach, it might be worthwhile to explore alternative indirect approaches that focus on enabling clients to act more autonomously, rather than try for fuller control of clients'actions (or"agents"behaviors) with improved carrots and sticks. Are there inherent limitations in the direct approach that will not be addressed with better crafted"agency contracts"or closer monitoring of the agents? The author traces the intellectual history of indirect approaches from Socrates to modern thinkers, such as Wittgenstein, Gandhi, and McGregor. One theme of his survey is that constructivist and active-learning pedagogies constitute an indirect approach in which the teacher does not directly transmit knowledge to the learner, through training, and instruction. These pedagogies - translated into social and economic development as learning writ large - from the basis for an alternative indirect approach to fostering development. Actions have motives, just as beliefs have grounds, concludes the author. In the wide spectrum of human endeavor, there is only a fairly small"bandwidth"in which motives can be supplied by the carrots, and sticks of the direct approach (including agency theory, and market-driven activities as special cases of the direct approach to affecting behavior). Outside that spectrum, trying to use direct methods in a controlling manner, contradicts the motives for actions (and the grounds for beliefs) - like trying to"buy love."For higher activities, motives must come from within. Helpers can at best use an indirect approach to bring doers to the threshold; the doers have to do the rest, which makes the results their own.Public Health Promotion,Teaching and Learning,Curriculum&Instruction,Health Monitoring&Evaluation,Educational Sciences,Educational Sciences,Teaching and Learning,Health Monitoring&Evaluation,General Technology,Curriculum&Instruction
