Frequency and impedance reconfigurable antennas for terahertz photomixers

    No full text
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.We present, for the first time, the design of two antennas for the terahertz photomixers that have reconfigurable operation frequency or reconfigurable input impedance as an alternative to the state-of-the-art high-impedance, narrow band or low-impedance, wide-band antennas. Both antennas have folded-dipole structures, which inherently have high radiation resistances, and the dimensions of the antennas are modified in the horizontal and vertical dimensions by means of ideal switches, changing the operation frequency of the antenna or the input impedance of the antenna at a given operation frequency. We also propose a real-life solution for the ideal switches for the antennas, namely miniature Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) switches, which have an area of 10 um × 10 um and is, to the best of our knowledge, the smallest MEMS switch reported in the literature. The first antenna is capable of operating at three different frequencies of 200, 400, and 600 GHz, whereas the input impedance of the second antenna can be adjusted between 4 kΩ and 7.5 kΩ at an operation frequency of 385 GHz. The proposed antennas can also be used as a photoconductive antenna for the terahertz frequency band. © 2014 IEEE

Use of lactobacilli and estriol combination in the treatment of disturbed vaginal ecosystem: a review

    No full text
To maintain a healthy vaginal ecosystem or to restore any disturbance, sufficient estrogen levels, an intact mature vaginal epithelium, and physiological lactobacillary microflora are essential. Thus, a combination of beneficial lactobacilli and estrogen is an appealing treatment option. This article reviews the published data on the use of viable Lactobacillus acidophilus KS400 and a low dose of estriol (0.03 mg E3) in the form of vaginal tablets (Gynoflor r). In vitro studies demonstrated that L. acidophilus KS400 produces lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), inhibits the growth of relevant vaginal pathogens, and inhibits adherence of pathogens to epithelial cells. Topical administration of E3 for treatment of vaginal diseases is generally preferred, as this route of application of hormones produces a more significant local proliferative response and has no stimulating effect on the endometrium. Overall, 16 clinical studies have been published with the combination of L. acidophilus KS400 and 0.03 mg E3. The results of these trials have demonstrated that the combination improves the vaginal epithelium and the restoration of the lactobacillary microflora with an excellent safety profile, even during pregnancy. The combination can be used in pre-and postmenopausal women for the restoration of the vaginal flora after anti-infective therapy, for treatment of symptomatic vaginal atrophy, and for abnormal vaginal flora therapy. It can be also considered in repetitive therapy courses for the long-term prevention of recurrences of bacterial vaginosis, even though further clinical studies are needed to substantiate the benefit of this application.4DEC239-2461

Ovarian cystectomy in endometriomas: Combined approach

    No full text
Endometrioma is one of the most frequent adnexal masses in the premenopausal population, but the recommended treatment is still a subject of debate. Medical therapy is inefficient and can not be recommended in the management of ovarian endometriomas. The general consensus is that ovarian endometriomas larger than 4 cm should be removed, both to reduce pain and to improve spontaneous conception rates. The removal of ovarian endometriomas can be difficult, as the capsule is often densely adherent. While the surgical treatment of choice is surgical laparoscopy, for conservative treatment, the preferred method is modified combined cystectomy. Cystectomy can be destructive for the ovary, whereas ablation may be incomplete, with a greater risk of recurrence. To the best of our knowledge, the modified combined technique seems to be more efficient in the treatment of endometriomas.3SEP177-1891

In order for Kosher and Halal certified foods and beverages to have a certificate, the necessary chemical and physical properties must comply with predetermined criteria. Again, determining the differences between Kosher and Halal certified foods is to explain why these differences are based on religion. Kosher and halal food regulations regulate the practical food needs of Jews and Muslims. These laws also require food companies and food service providers wishing to serve these markets to comply with these regulations. In return, these firms seek to obtain a certificate that allows them to advertise products and services for which they meet the relevant requirements of the certifier. In this thesis study, the situation of packaged products put on the market in markets across Turkey in terms of Halal and Kosher certificates is examined. During this study, a total of 1143 products were examined in 11 different categories from different markets. All of the examined categories; It has been evaluated according to criteria such as halal certification, kosher certification, no pork products additives, conforming to Islamic procedures, conforming to the non-alcoholic beverage communiqué, and the absence of any phrases. As a result of this thesis, 21.90% of fermented red and white meat products sold in our country, 20.50% of milk and dairy products, 5.88% of seafood products, 28.66% of canned and ready-to-eat food products, 94% of white meat products, 51, 60% of red meat products, 27.08% of breakfast products, 22.95% of pastry products, 14.29% of flour and bakery products, 1.35% of products in the beverage category, and 18.14% of chocolate and biscuit products. have been determined. However, as a result of the researches, 3.65% of fermented red and white meat products sold in our country, 6.50% of milk and dairy products, 0% of seafood products, 0% of canned and ready-to-eat food products, 0% of white meat products, 0% of red meat products. It was determined that 6%, 4.17% of breakfast products, 0% of pastry products, 0% of flour and bakery products, 0% of products in beverage category, 0% of chocolate and biscuit products have kosher certificate logo. According to the data obtained as a result of the research, 28% of the packaged products with halal certificate and 2.1% with kosher certificate were determined. At the same time, it was determined that 46.72% of these products had the phrase "no pork products additive"
