The Officina Emilia Initiative:Innovative Local Actions to Support Education and Training Systems

The issue of the regeneration of skills, in particular in the light engineering industry, is addressed by Officina Emilia (henceforth OE) as a crucial one in order to re-examine the interweaving of education, innovation and local development in the SMEs production systems. The project, aimed at the education and training systems, is designed to enhance the industrial culture in order to strengthen technical and scientific education. First sponsored in 2000 by the University of Modena & Reggio Emilia (Italy), over the last years OE has gathered the support of local actors dealing with the themes of training, culture, and local development. In 2009 it opened its museolaboratorio (“workshop-museum”) in which teaching activities promote an interest in the themes of work, technologies and the socio-economic development of the territory among the students and teachers of schools of all types and levels. The involvement of class groups, of teachers and other visitors takes place through active learning practices that foster motivation and develop a sense of belonging which is likely to lead to a more profitable educational experience, both secondary and tertiary, as well as to contribute to improving career prospects. Officina Emilia proposes innovative action on a local level, allowing for the implementation of effective teaching practices as well as the broadening and consolidation of best practices which might support a society-wide trend towards maintaining a high demand for a better quality of education and the ability to provide it. Ten years after the beginning of the initiative, with this paper we intend to open up the discussion on the various research issues and on the actions undertaken, focusing on the analytical tools and the main critical areas in the further implementation of the Officina Emilia initiative.Analysis of Education; Education Policy; Regional Development Policies; Innovation

ELENA MODENA, L'altrOrfeo.

Criticisms of the Venetian Rabbi Leon Modena (d.1648) regarding the perception of Mary in the Catholic faith

Bu çalışma içerisinde Meryem’in bakireliği, İsa’nın doğumundaki rolü, İsa’nın soyuna tesiri ve Meryem’in kutsiyeti hususunda Katolik anlayışta yer alan iddialara Modena’nın yönelttiği itirazlar incelenmektedir. This study evaluates the refutation of the Venetian Rabbi Leon Modena (d.1648) against the Christian Catholic Order named Magen Va-Herev (Shield and Sword). The author prepared his work as a response to Pietro Galatino’s (d. 1530) “De Arcanis Catholicae Veritatis” (Secrets of the Catholic Truth). Although Modena wanted to respond to the work of Galatino, he also targeted Thomas Aquinas, one of the most important Christian theologians of the Middle Ages, and his works. Modena designed the work as eight chapters but could only write five chapters. The work includes chapters of Original Sin, Trinity, Incarnation, Virginity of Mary, and the Messiah. Although Modena’s work shows similarities with previous Jewish polemics in terms of content and subject, it has a unique approach in terms of style, according to today’s researchers. This study deals with Modena’s objections to the Catholic claims about the virginity of Mary, her role in the birth and progeny of Jesus, and the glory of Mary

L'Artus de Modène, la winlogee volée et le commanditaire mystérieux

ISBN: 978-973-737-977-1International audienceStarting with a presentation of the previous hypotheses dealing with the Modena archivolt, the article focuses upon the patrons as means of explaining the arrival of the Arthurian legend at Modena. It also craves to explain the striking compositional similarities between the Modena and Bari archivolts. The author rejects Loomis’ identification of the patron, since it does not substantiate the transfer of the Arthurian tale from Bari to Modena; he also rejects another hypothesis concerning the pilgrim road. Via Francigena because of the archivolt’s uniqueness, which might point to a particular context, not to a ‘social’ pattern. The author then takes an interest in the presence of four names in the acts of Modena: Arthur, Roland, Bohemond and Tancred. He explores the prestige of Bohemond of Antioch in the Lombard milieu of the beginning of the XIIth century. In the end, after providing and linking various pieces of evidence, he believes the Modena archivolt’s patrons could have met an Anglo-Norman group of knights at Bari, where they had lived for one year and a half (1106-1107), waiting for prince Bohemond’s campaign into the Balkans. The Modena archivolt could in fact be a synthesis between a French tale and the Bari archivolt, whose story has nothing to do with king Arthur

Open versus Closed Recensions (Pasquali): Pros and Cons of Some Methods for Computer-Assisted Stemmatology

    No full text
By comparing the results obtained through traditional qualitative stemmatics with those obtained through computer-assisted quantitative stemmatology, when both approaches are applied to two authentic data sets (the Old English Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and a Latin epitome of Marco Polo’s Devisement dou Monde), this study aims at bringing to the fore the advantages and the disadvantages of some recent methods for the automatic grouping of witnesses, most of which are based on phylogenetic models. The analysis will show that not all the methods provide results which can be considered reliable in light of the evidence offered by a thorough scrutiny of the documentary history of the texts under inspection. In particular, the majority of computer-assisted methods succeed in providing very good information for detecting the grouping of witnesses, as well as for a preliminary evaluation of their variant readings. Yet, few offer some valuable guidance as to define the sub-groups. This limitation becomes crucial when the existence of more than one codex interpositus has to be postulated, i.e. when the historical evidence makes it clear that the actual textual transmission cannot conform to the mathematical ideal of cladistic parsimony. The latter case is particularly evident with ‘closed’ recensions, where mechanical reconstruction plays a heavier role, and the choice of variants follows rigorous stemmatic steps. On the other hand, the application of computer-assisted methods to ‘open’ recensions seems to give better results
