Purpose is to reach and affirm the experiences of children and readers with marginalized identities, since matrices of oppression manifest in everyday messaging that they are less than, invalid or unworthy in some way. "Little Blue" acts as a tool to get the conversation started on mental and emotional health at a young age.CSU Honors College Thesis Improvement Grant

Diffusive author(s), cohesive author: Analysis of S/N (1994)

    No full text
This study indicates the ways in which various aspects of the author(s) are brought forth in Dumb type’s performance art, the S/N production. Previous research has suggested a non-hierarchical organization of Dumb type and the absence of a “privileged author” in Dumb type’s collaborative work, S/N. However, the results that I have investigated from member’s interviews on the creative process of S/N along with my analysis of the recorded images of S/N, indicate a different aspect of the author(s). First, S/N was created through, so to speak, the collective ideas of the members of Dumb type. Further, S/N has at least nine quotations from previous performances, installations, and printed writings, besides the work-in-progress technique. Explicating one of the “author functions” as given by Michel Foucault, each text has plural subjects of the author. However, it has been revealed from members’ interviews that Teiji Furuhashi had a decision-making role in selecting the members’ ideas within the performance. Since then, S/N has had plural subjects of creation; however, Furuhashi is one of the subjects of creation along with the “privileged author.” S/N has plural authors (diffusive authors) yet at the same time, it has a “privileged author,” Teiji Furuhashi (cohesive author)

The Common Voice from Japan: A Performance Guide and Examination of the Three Unaccompanied Marimba Pieces Performed by Keiko Abe on October 4th, 1968

abstract: ABSTRACT Torse III (1965) by Akira Miyoshi, Two Movements for Marimba (1965) by Toshimistu Tanaka, and Time for Marimba (1968) by Minoru Miki have remained “tour de force” pieces in the marimba repertoire since their inception nearly fifty years ago, yet they continue to present significant performance and interpretative issues to each new generation of marimbists. This document will serve as both a performance guide for advanced marimba performers, as well as provide insight into the aesthetic qualities that contribute to their lasting artistic significance. Each piece will receive a designated chapter discussing the historical context, technical challenges, and general performance practices. The author will also present a designated chapter discussing the three over-arching aesthetic characteristics found in all three pieces: the use of the entire range of the instrument, the use of extreme contrasting dynamics and timbre, and the use of a common harmonic language. Torse III, Two Movements, and Time were famously performed by Keiko Abe on her first classical marimba recital in 1968. This document will also help bring to light the enormous impact this recital had on the history of the marimba, as marimbists throughout the world today are forever indebted to Abe’s efforts.Dissertation/ThesisDoctoral Dissertation Music 201

This study presents the design of a reading motivation strategy based on the use of six books by the author and illustrator of children's literature Keiko Kasza, with the intention of promoting reading among preschool students. The research was theoretically based on formulations and standpoints on cognitive and language development. Encouragement of reading and children's literature are also taken into account to design an innovative proposal based on games which can be implemented in the school. The results obtained will depend on the theory proposed and the general objective of the TFM, due to have been impossible, because of causes of force majeure, carrying out the proposed intervention as it was expected. However, it can be evidenced from a theoretical points of view that working with children's literature in preschool stages enhances students love for reading and literature, when it is carried out in a fun, practical and creative way.

The purpose of the article is to show the current status of Open Access (OA) in biomedical field, and compare some countries such as the U.S., the U.K. and Japan in terms of the OA situation. There are controversies about the definition of OA. After examining the requirements about OA, we recognized OA as the situation in which researchers could read the full text of articles in unrestricted way. In order to investigate the current situation of OA, 4,756 articles were sampled randomly from articles published between January and September in 2005 and indexed in PubMed. The main results are as follows: 1) The rate of OA articles was 25%, and 75% of all the articles were available online including electronic subscription journal articles. 2) The means of OA was classified into five types. Among them, the rate of OA articles by “OA and Hybrid OA journals” was overwhelming (more than 70%), and that of PMC was 26.2%. The rates of OA articles by “institutional repositories” and “authors’ personal sites” were considerably low (6.0% and 4.9% respectively). 3) When comparing the rates of OA articles by countries, Belgium ranked the first with 41.7%. The five countries indicated more than 30% in OA articles: Canada and India (38.7%), Brazil (36.4%), Australia (30.8%), and the U.S. (30.7%). Each country was different in the means of OA. 4) We explored the rates of OA for two groups; one group consists of articles published in journals with IF, and the other consists of articles published in journals without IF. The rate of OA for the group of articles in journals with IF is 20.6%, and that of articles in journals without IF is 30.8%

Confined in France : the diary of a japanese woman - Comparison between cultures and participating observation The author, who is Japanese, came to France to carry out a comparative survey of maternity in the two countries. During that period of research she herself gave birth to a child, which allowed her to be a "participating observer". Taking her personal case, associated with more general remarks, she follows the different steps from pregnancy to weaning, through delivery and being a mother in a maternity hospital and at home. She draws a parallel between the French and Japanese practices on several points such as the organization of the medical profession and the division of tasks, the use and the types of treatment, the work of the midwife, the fields of medicine and the system of social security. Thus she reveals the different social and cultural contexts in the practice of medicine and the distinctive characteristics in the behaviour and mindset of the two peoples.L'auteur qui est Japonaise est venue en France pour faire une étude comparative sur la maternité dans les deux pays. Funabashi Keiko.
