    Organizational Learning for Climate Change Adaptation: A Case Study of Four NGOs in India

    abstract: For a country like India which is highly vulnerable to climate change, the need to focus on adaptation in tandem with traditional development is immense, as the two are inextricably tied together. As a prominent actor working at the intersection of these two fields, NGOs need to be prepared for the emerging challenges of climate change. While research indicates that investments in learning can be beneficial for this purpose, there are limited studies looking into organizational learning within NGOs working on climate change adaptation. This study uses a multiple case study design to explore learning mechanisms, and trace learning over time within four development NGOs working on climate change adaptation in India. These insights could be useful for development NGOs looking to enhance their learning to meet the challenges of climate change.     A comparative study of traditional and digital method in teaching surgical pathology to undergraduate medical students

    Background: During undergraduate medical course surgical pathology is taught on formalin preserved specimens (FPS), a traditional teaching method. These specimens are morphologically altered in color and size due to chemical effect of formalin. Author believe that surgical pathology and disease process can be better understood by digital pictures and videos of surgical procedures. Hence, author did this intervention study to compare the teaching of surgical pathology by traditional method (i.e. Formalin preserved specimen) with digital method.Methods: This prospective study was conducted at Department of Surgery, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Swami Rama Himalayan University. Final year MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery). Students (Four Batches, 20-25 students, n=91) were taught surgical pathology by digital method (per operative and resected specimen pictures/videos) and traditional method (Formalin preserved specimen). Four specimens were taught with cross over i.e. two specimens with help of digital method and two by traditional method. Before start of teaching pretest (Multiple choice Questions, MCQ) was taken and it was followed by post-test (MCQ) for each topic. All teaching was done by single associate professor of surgery. Response of students was assessed by Likert’s scale. Evaluation of the results was done by paired t-test.Results: 94.3% students liked new method of teaching and 90.8% believed that new method leads to better understanding of the subject. In two specimens (Appendix and Gall Bladder) taught by digital method there was statistically significant increase in post test score as compared to FPS method. In specimens (carcinoma colon and breast carcinoma) there was also increase in the post test score though not statistically significant.Conclusions: Digital method was found to be better method for understanding surgical pathology and clinical correlation and should be used to complement traditional method. </jats:p

    Abstract Keywords Cite This Article as Corresponding Author Purpose: This study will look at how customer purchasing behavior and certain marketing factors, such as brand image, association, and loyalty in the fashion business, are related. This articles main goal is to comprehend how branding affects consumers purchasing decisions in the footwear sector. Methodology:Primary information used in this study to examine the relationship between consumer purchasing behavior and other marketing characteristics, the data was analyzed using multiple regression and Pearsons correlation in SPSS. Data collection:The primary data were gathered through a questionnaire for analysis purposes. To assess the influence and relationship between the dependent variables and independent factors, 340 respondents are chosen, and 16 questions are then asked of them. This study used random sampling and the Likert scaling method. Findings:The model fits well and shows a high correlation between the dependent and independent variables. Research constraints: The studys choice of sample size is constrained. The generalizability of the results can be increased by collecting data for bigger sample sizes. Originality/Value- This study may aid future researchers in determining how branding and advertising in the Kashmir region affect customer behavior

    Woodfordia floribunda salisb is a high demand medicinal plant for pharmaceutics and dye industries. Its flowers are highly valued medicinal material used in Indian System of Medicine. The plant is distributed in North-eastern India. This review Woodfordia floribunda salisb, or Fire-flame bush, a plant of Indian origin, is extensively used in folk medicine for the treatment of various ailments. Various parts of this plant possess valuable medicinal properties as anti-inflammatory, anti- tumor, Hepato-protective and free radical scavenging activity, but its flowers are in maximum demand. It is the backbone herb of almost all Asava and Aristha preparations and used as a fermenting agent. Not only to speed up fermentation process in the formation of Asava and Arishta but also Dhataki flowers add colour and taste to them. Dhataki is mainly emphasized in the ancient Ayurvedic texts as one of the most important fermentation product, hence the names Madhyhetu and Madakara. Charak quoted it among the fermentating agents (Asava yoni). He also described Dhataki among the Purisasangrahaniya and Mutraviranjaniya group of drugs. So this review paper is an attempt of the author to provide details of this medicinal plant along with its spectacular properties in fermentation process

    Overcoming root dormancy and identifying the storage behaviour of Lilium polyphyllum seeds

    Lilium polyphyllum is a critically endangered medicinal herb of Himalaya. Seeds have epicotyl morphophysiological dormancy, and in the field a minimum of 34 weeks is required for root emergence. To date, treatments to decrease the time for root protrusion and seed storage behaviour have not been determined. We evaluated the effects of plant growth regulators and nitrogenous compounds and seed scarification on root emergence and determined the storage behaviour of seeds. Root emergence at 20°C was significantly increased by 100 ppm IBA, KNO3 and thiourea and by application of NaOCl solution for 30 min. Mean germination time was decreased significantly by 50 ppm GA3 (28 days) compared to 100 ppm GA3 (36 days). After 12 months of dry storage, viability of seeds (TTC method) at room temperature (10-35°C), 0-4°C and -20±1°C was 95%, 100% and 100%, respectively; thus, seeds have orthodox storage behaviour. Our recommendation for seedling production is to store seeds at room temperature until they can be sown under warm wet conditions. Roots emerge after about 8 weeks, and then seeds should be given a 2-week cold moist treatment to break shoot dormancy. After 2 weeks of cold, transfer seeds to warm (20°C) spring temperatures to promote growth.The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page.     Integration of microalgal bioremediation and biofuel production: A ‘clean up’ strategy with potential for sustainable energy resources

    Oleaginous microalgae are being used extensively worldwide for the development of integrated sustainable environment technologies. Microalgae can be used to remove environmental pollutants and simultaneous extraction of biofuels from the same culture. Microalgae have also evolved different intracellular and extracellular mechanisms to resist the toxic effects of different environmental pollutants that stimulate lipid accumulation. The advancements in microalgae omics with the use of recent tools like H1NMR spectroscopy, GC-MS, FTIR spectroscopy, ICP-MS, LC-MS can provide deep insights towards understanding the various underlying mechanisms to resist environmental stresses. They are a promising candidate towards Green Bioremediation and Biofuel production. © 2021 The Author
