No full textSe ha calificado a menudo a la filosofía que se desarrolló en Venezuela en el siglo XVIII, como conservadora y reacia a los cambios. De 1755 a 1758, Antonio José Suárez de Urbina enseñó filosofía en la Real y Pontificia Universidad de Caracas. Partiendo de que los estatutos universitarios prescribían una enseñanza en la linea aristotélica y de que —por tanto— Suárez de Urbina no tenía por qué encubrir sus ideas tradicionales, se tratan de descubrir en el texto de su Meteorología los posibles indicios de modernismo,bien sea explícitos, bien sea sugeridos, o bien indicados con la única solución posible en los casos más «conflictivos»: silenciarlos. AbstractThe philosophy developed in Venezuela in the XVIIIth Century, has been many times considered as excessively traditional and opposite to change. From 1755 to 1758 Antonio José Suárez de Urbina reached philosophy at the Realy Pontificia Universidad de Caracas. Bearing in mind that the University’s ordinances prescribed an Aristotelic way of teaching and that —because of this— Suárez de Urbina did not need to hide his traditional thinking, the aim of this paper is to discover in his Meteorología the possible signs of modernism, however explicit or suggested, or simply indicated in the most conflictive cases in which they remained silent

Functional Traits in Bees: the Role of Body Size and Hairs in the Pollination of a Passiflora Crop
No full textPollination is a vitally important function in nature and becomes an ecosystem service because it influences the food and nutritional security for people. However, the contribution of different functional traits of insects for pollen transport of plants is still poorly known. We explore the relationship between pollinator insect functional traits and the transport of pollen of sweet granadilla (Passiflora ligularis Juss) in eight crops. We sampled flower-visiting insects of this crop and recorded 10 functional traits (five by direct measurements and five from the literature) that were related to the amount of pollen carried by each insect. Bees (Apidae) were not only the most abundant insects but also the ones that loaded the highest amounts of pollen. Within these, the most abundant species was the exotic common honeybee (Apis mellifera (Linnaeus)) making up almost half of the specimens collected; however, this bee carried less pollen grains than other native bees. Bombus hortulanus (Smith) was one of the large-bodied native bees that carried more sweet granadilla pollen, despite not being an abundant species in the community. Body size was the most important trait determining the transport of sweet granadilla pollen, while the traits related to body hairs were not significant for the body’s pollen load. None of the functional traits evaluated was influenced by taxonomy at species-level. Our results suggest that large body sizes in bees are the most important traits in granadilla pollen transport, regardless of other changes in composition and structure of pollinating insect assemblages in the crop.Fil: Cortés Gómez, Angela M.. Biografía de Luis Gonzaga Urbina Sánchez, n. en la ciudad de México y m. en España (1864-1934). Poeta y periodista. Se inició como redactor en "El Siglo XIX", secretario particular de Justo Sierra, profesor de la Escuela Nacional Preparatoria y director de la Biblioteca Nacional (1913). Junto con Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera fue uno de los editores de la revista Azul, radicó en La Habana (1915) y en Madrid (1916), donde fue corresponsal de El Heraldo de Cuba y primer secretario de la legación mexicana (1918-1920). Regresa a México al triunfo del Plan de Agua Prieta. Biografía de Rosaura Zapata; n. en La Paz, BCS, y m. en el DF (1876-1963), se tituló como profesora en la Escuela Nacional para Maestros en 1899, estudió psicología y pedagogía en la Universidad Nacional. En EUA tomó cursos sobre educación preescolar (1902). Continuó su especialización en Europa y a su regreso al país promovió el establecimiento de jardínes de niños (1904) y presidió los jurados para nombrar a las primeras educadoras, fue Inspectora general de Jardines de Niños de la SEP (1928).
