No full textInför en kommande operaproduktion har Mannheim Theater arrangerat ett tonsättarporträtt med Ming Tsao, framstående amerikansk kompositör, som tidigare undervisat vid Högskolan för Scen och Musik. Enligt Mannheims teater: Kompositören Ming Tsao är en kosmopolit och universalgeni. Hans far immigrerade till USA från Kina, hans mamma kom från Österrike. Han studerade komposition i San Diego, men även musiketnologi, matematik och filosofi i New York. Idag bor han i Berlin och är en av de mest spännande kompositörerna i landet. "Min musik är konkret, representativ musik", skriver Ming Tsao. Med sina sceniska ljud vill han föra publiken in i ett klangligt "fritt utrymme" där de kan låta sina tankar vandra. Tre gästensembler medverkade i programmet, som framfördes i Kulturkirche Epihanias i Mannheim: Due Corde (Ulrika Davidsson och Joel Speerstra), där vi uruppförde Tsao: Dritte Stimme zu Bachs zweistimmigen Rätselkanons, samt spelade delar ur hans Dritte Stimme zu Bachs zweistimmigen Inventionen, på duoklavikord. Full text linkIn this essay, composer Ming Tsao presents a critical overview of today's new music scene, with a special emphasis on the task of teaching music composition today and the culture of new music festivals. Tsao's main critique delves into the current tendency towards entertainment predominantly displayed in some German new music festivals, commonly advertised as experimental music. Alongside this critique, Tsao presents Steven Takasugi's musical theater work "Side Show" (2009-15) as an example of today's music composition that resists this emerging commercialism in concert music. In this text, Tsao makes reference to the writings and ideas of German composer Helmut Lachenmann, mainly on his concepts of Geräuschmusik, Kadenzklänge, Texturklänge, and the language-like aspects of music, as well as to the writings of poet J.
