Full text linkPlanning is a fundamental cognitive ability that helps in organizing and structuring events unfolding in a person\u27s daily life. Two studies are presented that analyze planning behavior in different cultures: Brazil, India, and Germany. The first is a cross-cultural psychological study in which students develop plans for uncertain problem scenarios. The second study follows a cultural psychological tradition. Workers from different domains are interviewed about their life problems and plans. The strengths and the weaknesses of both approaches become obvious in the description and discussion of these two studies. The cross-cultural study sheds light on cross-cultural similarities and differences in planning in Brazil, India, and Germany. The cultural psychological approach yields data regarding a theoretical model on the specific cultural influences on planning
Decision Making in Individualistic and Collectivistic Cultures
Full text linkHow do cultural values influence individuals\u27 decision making? One would expect answers to this question either from cognitive psychology or from cross-cultural psychology. Cognitive theories on decision making, however, rarely consider the factor of culture, and research in cross-cultural psychology deals only to a small extent with decision making. Therefore the study of culture and decision making is a relatively new and unexplored field. In this paper normative and descriptive approaches to decision making are discussed and three cross-cultural studies on decision making in individualistic and collectivist cultures using different methodologies are described. The results are integrated into a model that can be helpful to derive specific hypotheses for further studies in this field

Trump und das Fernsehen. Medien, Realität, Affekt, Politik
No full textDie Wahl und die Präsidentschaft Donald Trumps weisen auf eine tief greifende Zäsur im Verhältnis von Medien und Politik hin. So scheint sich die Prognose Neil Postmans bestätigt zu haben, der schon vor 30 Jahren das Fernsehen als Bedrohung der Demokratie ausmachte. Trumps Erfolg basiert aber nicht alleine auf dem Fernsehen, sondern auf einem komplexen Netzwerk von alten und neuen Medien, das Informationen, Bilder und Affekte auf eine intensive und kaum zu kontrollierende Weise zirkulieren lässt. Trump ist eine Heimsuchung, die kaum zu antizipieren war und immer noch nicht zu begreifen und zu akzeptieren ist. Trumps Präsidentschaft steht für eine Inkommensurabilität zwischen den ‚medialen‘ Wahrnehmungsmustern, die ihn als Präsidenten nicht fassen können, und einer Wirklichkeit, in der ein Präsident Trump doch jeden Tag beweist, dass er möglich ist.
Um Trump, die Medien und den Populismus zu verstehen, ist es wichtig, das Fernsehen als Teil einer transmedialen Medienökologie zu begreifen, in der nicht nur ‚content‘, sondern auch Affekte über unterschiedlichste Medien hinweg fließen und immer neue, verwirrende Allianzen schaffen. Trump verstehen zu wollen, bedeutet auch, das Ensemble der traditionellen und sozialen Medien zu verstehen, deren Ineinandergreifen Trumps Allgegenwart erzeugt. Dazu gehören nicht nur Reality TV und The Apprentice, Fox und andere TV-Sender, sondern auch Drama- und Comedyserien, Twitterkommentare, Late-Night-Show-Beiträge als Mikronarrative auf YouTube und Twitter, die Medialität von Gerüchten, Verschwörungen, die Übertragungswege, die aus einer Politik der Meme resultieren, Vorbilder wie die Medienpolitik Berlusconis oder eine Symbolpolitik, die auf die quantitative Größe der Quote rekurriert. Der Band erkundet die Komplexität des Phänomens ‘Trump’, fragt nach dem Status der Medien- und Populärkultur, hinterfragt die Verfahren der Medienanalyse und schlägt neue Ansätze vor, die Medienwelt nach und mit Trump zu verstehen

Full text linkIn the 17th century, the hagiography and iconography of Bishop Iohannes Traguriensis were enriched by various members of Trogir’ s noble families. In this promotion of the cult of the local beato, Dominik Andreis stands out with his efforts: he was the author of an unpublished Litany in Croatian (1632), the instigator of publishing an Italian Vita by Giovanni Francesco Loredan (1648), and the sponsor of a three act drama by Girolamo Brusoni (1656), performed in Trogir with musical intermezzos and published two years later (1658)
