Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
DANGERS AND PROTECTIVE MEASURES ON FIRE SCENE WITH INCLUDED ALTERNATIVE FUELS VAHICLES
Tržište vozila koja koriste alternativne vrste goriva kao pogonsku energiju posljednjih je godina doživjelo značajan porast. Taj porast izazvan je sve većom ekološkom svijesti kod ljudi kao i potrebom za smanjenje emisije štetnih plinova koji su nusprodukt izgaranja fosilnih goriva. Sve veća primjena električnih, hibridnih i vozila na vodik u svakodnevnom životu donosi brojne prednosti, ali isto tako stvara i nove izazove za hitne službe. Svako vozilo koje kao pogonsko sredstvo koristi alternativnu vrstu goriva zahtjeva poseban pristup prilikom intervencija spašavanja unesrećenih osoba. Opasnosti koje predstavljaju vozila na alternativna goriva značajno se razliku od onih koje kao pogonsko sredstvo koriste konvencionalna goriva (benzin, nafta). Kod električnih i hibridnih vozila opasnost od električnog udara je znatno povećana ukoliko se ne pridržavamo propisanih procedura dok je kod vozila na vodik povećana opasnost od eksplozije izazvane skladištenjem vodika u visokotlačnim spremnicima. Mjere zaštite pri intervencijama s uključenim vozilima na alternativna goriva uključuju specijalizirane edukacije, obuke, opremu i poštivanje vodiča za hitne slučajeve koje je proizvođač vozila propisao za svaki model vozila. U vodiču za hitne slučajeve proizvođač vozila točno opisuje radnje koje je potrebno poduzeti kako bi se recimo kod vozila na električni pogon isključio visokonaponski dio vozila te se na siguran način mogle spasiti unesrećene osobe iz vozila. Stoga je razvijanje navika korištenja vodiča za hitne slučajeve vrlo bitna kao i pravovremena identifikacija vozila na alternativna goriva, a sve u cilju što veće sigurnosti interventnog osoblja i unesrećenih osoba.The market of vehicles that use alternative types of fuel as propulsion energy has experienced a significant increase in recent years. This increase is caused by the increasing environmental awareness among people as well as the need to reduce the emission of harmful gases that are a byproduct of burning fossil fuels. The increasing use of electric, hybrid and hydrogen vehicles in everyday life brings numerous advantages, but also creates new challenges for emergency services. Any vehicle that uses an alternative type of fuel as a means of propulsion requires a special approach during interventions to rescue victims. The dangers posed by alternative fuel vehicles are significantly different from those that use conventional fuels (gasoline, oil) as a means of propulsion. With electric and hybrid vehicles, the risk of electric shock is significantly increased if the prescribed procedures are not followed, while with hydrogen vehicles, the risk of explosion caused by the storage of hydrogen in high-pressure tanks is increased. Protection measures during interventions involving alternative fuel vehicles include specialized education, training, equipment and compliance with the emergency guides prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer for each vehicle model. In the emergency guide, the vehicle manufacturer describes exactly the actions that need to be taken in order, for example, to switch off the high-voltage part of the vehicle in an electrically powered vehicle, and to safely rescue the injured persons from the vehicle. Therefore, developing the habit of using emergency guides is very important, as is the timely identification of alternative fuel vehicles, all with the aim of increasing the safety of emergency personnel and injured persons
HAZARDS AND MEASURES OF FIRE PROTECTION IN INTERVENTIONS WITH INCLUDED PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS
Tržište fotonaponskih sustava posljednjih je godina doživjelo snažan rast što će se sigurno i u sljedećim godinama nastaviti. Upravo iz toga razloga industrija razvoja i proizvodnje sunčevih ćelija jedna je od najbrže rastućih sa sigurnom budućnosti. Masovna primjena fotonaponskih sustava stvorila je i određene probleme, tipične za brzi razvoj koji nije praćen zakonima, tehničkim normama te pravilnicima. O tome nam govori nekoliko velikih požara u svijetu na obiteljskim kućama, zgradama, skladišnim prostorima gdje vatrogasci zbog prisutnih opasnosti nisu aktivno gasili požar već su pasivno štitili okolne objekte kako se isti ne bi proširio na njih. Instalacija fotonaponskih sustava nosi dodatne nove opasnosti čak i u visoko razvijenim zemljama. Vatrogasne intervencije na mjestima gdje postoji fotonaponski sustav iziskuje od vatrogasaca poduzimanje dodatnih mjera zaštite u odnosu na sustav dobave električne energije iz javne mreže. Analizom i proučavanjem kako strane literature tako i stvarnih intervencija dan je pregled koje su to dodatne opasnosti kod fotonaponskih sustava, te koje dodatne mjere zaštite je potrebno poduzeti kod takvog tipa intervencije.The market of photovoltaic system has experienced strong growth in recent years, which will certainly continue in next years. Reason for this is that the development os the industry and the production of solar cells is one of the fastes growing with guaranteed future. The widespread use of photovoltaic systems has also created certain problems, typical of rapid development that is not accompained by laws, technical norms and regulations. Several large fires in the world tell us about this in family houses, buildings and warehouses where firefighters didn't actively extinguish the fire due to the present dangers, but passively protected the surrounding building so that it wouldn't spread to them. The instalation of photovoltaic systems carries additional new dangers even in highly developed countries. Firefighting interventions in places where there is photovoltaic require firefighters to take additional protection measures in relation to the system of electricity supply from the public network. The analysis and study of both foreign literature and actual interventions provide and overview of the additional dangers of photovoltaic systems, and what additional protection measures need to be taken in this type of intervention
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
