In this paper we aim to analyse those elements, which can formally ascribed to Math, in the essay "Vremja – mera mira", written by Velimir Khlebnikov between 1915-1916. This text has been largely neglected to date, most likely due to the complex mathematical language employed by Khlebnikov. We propose a reconstruction and an interpretation of most of the mathematical expressions used by Khlebnikov, including a passage that explains the origin of the number 48 - a number ubiquitous in Khlebnikov's "scientific" works. We also highlight some evidence suggesting that Khlebnikov's ideas were influenced by the ideas of Sir Rowan Hamilton. In particular, we argue that Khlebnikov re-elaborated Hamilton's interpretation of Algebra as the Science of Pure Time: in Khlebnikov's view, Algebra does not only derive from the notion of Time but can reveal the nature of Time itself

Abstract : Intending to delineate the way the Italian writer Alessandro Baricco has been inserted in the Brazilian literary system and the paths his translated books have followed, this thesis gives voice to the translating experiences of his translators. Baricco's insertion in Brazil began in 1997, through a personal project of Dr. Roberta Barni, with her translation of Oceano Mare. Since then, seven other of his works have been published in Brazil, three of which were translated by Roberta Barni and the other four by four different translators. On the one hand, the translator is considered as the main figure in mediation betweencultures and, on the other, this figure's reality is analyzed within theliterary system: its invisibility, its limits and its professional practice. Criticisms and reviews of this Italian author published in well established Brazilian newspapers are also considered, with the understanding that they are part of Baricco's image reflected here
Alberto Moravia may well be the most widely known and read Italian author in Arab- ic-speaking countries. At the same time and in spite of that fact, studies of his writings in Arabic are rare. This essay analyzes references to Moravia and discussions of both him and his works written by Arab writers since the Sixties. Those references and discussions have been published in newspapers, periodicals, journals and, in some cases, in autobio- graphies. For the most part, the principal topic of the sources analyzed here has little or nothing to do with Italian literature. Through such very short citations which often leave a great deal to the readers' knowledge and understanding, Moravia is thus listed as being one of world literature’s major representatives: and, on such a basis it can be argued that he has been one of the most formative authors for successive generations of Arab writers. That said however, these literary references appear to be quite standardized, while at the same time the Arab authors who use them seem to be trying to facilitate their own placement in the wider ranks of literary authority(ies). On the other hand, there are other newspaper articles that briefly mention only one aspect of Moravia's production or one of his works or characters; in still other cases Arab writers will talk about their own relationship with Moravia, apparently as a mode of self-reference to be appended to their own intellectual curriculum vitae. At the conclusion of this essay a series of questions is asked as to what kind of influence the Italian writer has actually had on Arab authors
This paper focuses on Rutilius Namatianus, praefectus Urbi, who around 417 AD. is forced from Rome to return to his native Gaul, to take care of his possessions. He tells of this journey in De reditu suo, after years of political commitment at the highest levels in the city: during the stops of the journey the author provides large portraits of friends and associates, which he praises virtutes and cursus honorum of. The constant reference to the office of the urban prefecture (or other high government offices) suggests the concern of Rutilius for what makes Rome an excellent place of civilization: temples, roads, aque-ducts, ports, infrastructures that were under direct responsibility of praefectus Urbi. These elements are very significant in the very moment of serious identity crisis in the senatorial class. Rutilius through the portraits of his associates builds the image of a so-cial structure that wants to present itself as the true custodian of the values of the senato-rial class, but not really compact and therefore in need of a renewed identity model. On the other side the invectives and the merciless portraits are served for the "others", the anti-models, who counterbalance this model to be renewed; perhaps the most insidious forms of otherness are the degenerate forms of identical, who - contrary to expectations - deny or subvert the identity model of the senatorial class. Finally, examples of perma-nent liminality are the iuvenis of Gorgona and the shameful lineage of Lepidi, real dys-functional models of identity
SIRIO : Integrated Forest Firesmonitoring, detection and decision supportsystem with low cost commercial sensorssuited for complex orography
Forest Fires in our society cause a lot of damage, in particular regarding the economic and environmental landscape. In order to monitor a large portion of territory automatically, with a good cost/performances trade-off, it is necessary to develop new early warning systems. We propose a ground-based system with modular architecture, equipped with low cost commercial sensor. The idea is to develop the software able to manage the forest fires monitoring. The technique is based on Static and Dynamic analysis of chromatic changes between images, tailored for our case of study in a large scale monitoring of vegetation and using different sensors to reduce or eliminate the false alarm rate. Concerning the image geo-referencing tool, the present work describes an innovative projective geo-referencing algorithm able to geo-reference complex orography regions using fixed ground station images. Besides, it does not need the collection of Ground Control Points, which is a very hard task in complex orography environments. In order to make a user oriented product and to help the operator during extinguishing activities, a decision support tool has been developed as well. This work presents the results of one year monitoring campaign conducted in cooperation with the Civil Protection Offices in Sanremo (IM), Ital
