    Ordovician mineralizations in the Sistema de Famatina and Sierra de Velasco, northwestern Argentina

    The Sistema de Famatina is located in the northwestern sector of Argentina, sharing territories with La Rioja and Catamarca provinces. The Sistema de Famatina display N-S orientation being represented by metamorphites (Negro Peinado/La Aguadita Formations) of the Pampean Cycle. The marine clastic and volcaniclastic sedimentary rocks, the volcanic-subvolcanic bodies of basic and acid composition and the widespread outcrops of granitoids belong to the posterior Famatinian Cycle. The Sierra de Velasco is located eastwards of the Sistema de Famatina in La Rioja province. This is the largest orographic unit of the Sierras Pampeanas, nearly totaly represented by Famatinian granitoids with porfiric and equigranular textures. Epigenic mineralizations (Cu, Mo, W, Be) are recorded in the region, related to the different magmatic units. These igneous manifestations are formed by a volcano-sedimentary secuences of El Chuschin Formation and the Ñuñorco and Paimán Granites in the Sistema de Famatina, and the Huaco Granite in the Sierra de Velasco.Fil: Sardi, Fernando Guillermo.     Computer Assisted Transcription of Handwritten Text Images

    [EN] To date, automatic handwriting recognition systems are far from being perfect and often they need a post editing where a human intervention is required to check and correct the results of such systems. We propose to have a new interactive, on-line framework which, rather than full automation, aims at assisting the human in the proper recognition- transcription process; that is, facilitate and speed up their transcription task of handwritten texts. This framework combines the efficiency of automatic handwriting recognition systems with the accuracy of the human transcriptor.     The PARES Database: Information Extraction over Historical Parish Records

    [EN] Historical census records convey information that is key to perform genealogical research and demographic studies. Given the large number of documents of this type that exist, it is crucial to research methods that allow the automatic extraction of information from this type of document. In this work, we present a new corpus of this kind, comprising 535 historical census tables from French archives. Alongside this dataset, we have assessed three different baseline methods for information extraction. The first two methods employ a traditional sequential approach, where table rows are detected before extracting information. The third baseline uses an end-to-end model that directly extracts information from the table images without prior row detection. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of all three baselines in tackling the information extraction taskOpen Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature.     Writing speed normalization for on-line handwritten text recognition

    [EN] Pen-based interfaces aim at improving the man-machine interaction of many portable systems. While statistical models can be used to learn pen position sequences, they suffer from the huge variability exhibited by the speed of writing. To improve performance, invariance to the writing speed is needed. Trace segmentation is a technique that can be used to normalize the writing speed. This method is controlled by a parameter called resampling distance. A study of the resampling distance is presented here, along with an other approximation to the writing speed normalization called "derivatives normalization".     The interpretations of detritic zircon populations in stratigraphic equivalent units of the Ediacaran-Cambrian of NW Argentina

    El análisis de las dataciones de poblaciones de circones en la región centro y norte de Argentina nos permitió lograr una interpretación de los eventos que los generaron como así también postular las posibles áreas de procedencia que ellos tienen. En principio se comprueba que hay dos grandes pulsos, el más antiguo corresponde al lapso 1500-1000 Ma (Orógeno Sunsás ~ “Grenviliano“) y el segundo a 600-500 Ma. (Orógeno Pampeano). En el tiempo intermedio, correpondiente al lapso 1000-600 Ma. se comprueba, en algunos sectores, la existencia de poblaciones de circones sobre los que aún no se dispone de elementos que permitan definir si corresponden a ciclos independientes. Se estima que estos podrían pertenecer a ¿uno o dos eventos? previo al desarrollo del Ciclo Pampeano. En todos los casos se interpreta que estas poblaciones se generaron en estructuras autoctonas pertenecientes al borde occidental de Gondwana.The analysis of zircon age populations of Ediacaran - Cambrian units in central and northem Argentina allowed an interpretation of zircon generating events suggesting source areas. Two main pulses can be recognized, an older one for the time span of 1500-1000 My (Sunsas Orogeny ~ “Grenville”) and a second of 600-500 My (Pampean Orogeny). An additional set of ages between 1000-600 My were also found in some sectors, but data does not alows us to recognize it as independent cycles. It is estimated that these might belong to one or two events occurred prior to the development of Pampean Cycle. In all cases, it is interpreted that these populations were generated in authochtonous structures belonging to the western margin of Gondwana.Fil: Aceñolaza, Florencio Gilberto.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Politicization of Immigration and Language Use in Political Elites: A Study of Spanish Parliamentary Speeches

    [EN] This study uses natural language processing (NLP) tools to analyze how politicians rec reate the stereotype of immigrants in the Spanish Parliament. An interdisciplinary approach from computational linguistics and social psychology has been used to con struct a variety of indices about content and linguistic styles. The analysis of 2,516 par liamentary interventions about immigration delivered between 1996 and 2016 by representatives of the two political parties that alternated in power during that period (conservative Popular Party and Spanish Socialist Party) shows that both the rhetorical strategy to present immigrants as ¿victims¿ or as a ¿threat¿ and the language style that politicians use reveal an interaction between the ideology of the party and the party¿s political position in government or in the opposition.     Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
