Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. OKR-mallin käyttöönotto tiedolla johtamisen tukena : strategian jalkauttaminen ja ketteryyden vahvistaminen tavoitteiden hallinnassa
Full text linkStrategian jalkauttaminen on monille organisaatioille merkittävä haaste, sillä strategiset tavoitteet jäävät usein vain ylätasolle, eivätkä konkretisoidu arjen toiminnaksi. Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää, miten OKR-malli (Objectives and Key Results) voi tukea strategian jalkauttamista ja ketteryyden vahvistamista organisaatiossa tiedolla johtamisen näkökulmasta. Tutkimus keskittyi OKR-mallin käyttöönottoon ja sen vaikutuksiin esihenkilötyöhön, sekä henkilöstön kokemuksiin.
Tutkimuksen teoreettinen viitekehys perustuu strategisen johtamisen, ketterän johtamisen, tiedolla johtamisen sekä OKR-mallin kirjallisuuteen. Tutkimus toteutettiin monimenetelmällisenä yhdistäen kvalitatiivinen ja kvantitatiivinen tutkimusote. Kvalitatiivinen aineisto kerättiin puolistrukturoiduilla esihenkilöhaastatteluilla ja kvantitatiivinen aineisto sähköisellä henkilöstölle kohdistetulla kyselyllä. Aineisto analysoitiin sisällönanalyysin ja kuvailevan tilastollisen analyysin avulla.
Tutkimuksen tulokset osoittavat, että OKR-malli on parantanut strategian näkyvyyttä ja tavoitteiden mitattavuutta, erityisesti esihenkilötasolla. Henkilöstön osalta mallin periaatteet tunnetaan, mutta sen koettu hyöty arjen työssä on vielä koettu rajalliseksi. Johtopäätöksenä voidaan todeta, että OKR-mallin onnistunut juurruttaminen edellyttää johdon aktiivista tukea, vahvaa viestintää, yhtenäisiä prosesseja sekä tiimitason osallistamisen vahvistamista

Full text linkLiiketoimintaosaamisen kehittäminen on tärkeää sekä metsäalan toimijoille että metsäalan opiskelijoille. Pohjois-Karjalan ammattikorkeakoulun Biotalouden keskuksessa alkoi 2011 hanke, jossa tarkoituksena oli kehittää pohjoiskarjalaisten metsäpalveluyrittäjien ja oppilaitoksen metsätalouden opiskelijoiden liiketoimintaosaamista. Hankkeen tarkoituksena oli myös luoda yhteistoimintaverkosto näiden kahden ryhmän välille. Tämä opinnäytetyö on hankkeeseen liittyvä taustatutkimus. Siinä selvitettiin metsäpalveluyrittäjien näkemyksiä toimintaympäristöstä, liiketoiminnan kehittämistarpeita ja yhteistyömahdollisuuksia Pohjois-Karjalan ammattikorkeakoulun Biotalouden keskuksen kanssa.
Menetelmänä tutkimuksessa käytettiin teemahaastattelua. Siinä haastateltiin kuutta pohjoiskarjalaista metsäpalveluyrittäjää. Haastattelussa oli mahdollisuus esittää tarkentavia kysymyksiä ja esittää jatkokysymyksiä.
Metsäpalveluyrittäjillä on kiinnostusta yhteistyöhön sekä Biotalouden keskuksen että myös muiden yrittäjien kanssa. Tutkimuksessa saatiin selville metsäpalveluyrittäjien liiketoiminnan kehittämistarpeita ja mahdollisia yhteistyömuotoja.It is important for forestry service entrepreneurs and forestry students to improve their business know-how. In 2011, North Karelia University of Applied Sciences Centre for Natural Resources began a project which was designed to develop business know-how of both operators. The project’s aim was also to create a network of cooperation between these two groups. This thesis is a background research for the project. The goals of this study were to determine the operational environment of forestry service entrepreneurs, the business know-how development needs and opportunities for cooperation with the Centre for Natural Resources Centre of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences.
The method used in this study was a theme interview. Six forestry service entrepreneurs from North Karelia were interviewed for this study. It was possible to define and ask follow-up questions in the interview.
Forestry service entrepreneurs were interested in cooperation with the Centre for Natural Resources and with other entrepreneurs. This study shows some entrepreneurs’ business know-how development needs and some forms of cooperation

Full text linkOpinnäytetyön aiheena oli määritellä, suunnitella ja toteuttaa Internet-sivut Lappeenrannan Voimistelijat ry:lle. Sivustolle on tarkoituksena asentaa ja ottaa käyttöön Joomla!-sisällönhallintajärjestelmä, jonka tarkoituksena on helpottaa
sivuston ylläpitoa.
Työn lähtökohtana oli Lappeenrannan Voimistelijat ry:n vanha Internet-sivusto, jonka ulkoasu ei enää vastannut tämän päivän vaatimuksia. Sivuston sisältöä oli hankala ylläpitää ja päivittäminen oli vaikeaa. Sivuston selaaminen oli käyttäjille hankalaa, koska sivuston sisältö oli hyvin vanhaa ja sivuston navigaatio ei toiminut halutulla tavalla.
Työn tavoitteena oli parantaa sivuston käytettävyyttä, ylläpidettävyyttä ja uudistaa ulkoasu paremman näköiseksi, sekä ottaa käyttöön sisällönhallintajärjestelmä,
jonka avulla sivujen ylläpitäminen olisi helpompaa. Uuteen sivustoon haluttiin sisällyttää mainostilan myynti, jolla voidaan rahoittaa seuran palvelintila ja lisätä toimiva kuvagalleria, johon pystyisi päivittämään uusimmat kuvat tapahtumista.
Opinnäytetyön tuloksena Lappeenrannan Voimistelijat ry:lle toteutettiin toimiva Internet-sivusto, jonka ylläpitäminen on helppoa. Sivuston toimii Joomla!- sisällönhallintajärjestelmän päällä, jonka avulla käyttäjien ei itse tarvitse keskittyä sivuston muokkaamiseen lähdekoodin kautta.The purpose of this thesis was to create a new web-site to Lappeenrannan Voimistelijat registered association society, using Joomla! -content management system. Their old web-site was out-of-date and had not been updated for a while. Also updating the old web-site was very difficult and time taking. The old web-site was made with HTML-language and that is why it was hard to update.
The goal for making the new web-site was to make it functional, easy to use, easy to update and to create it on a platform that uses Joomla! -content management system. The new web-site had to be clear for visitors to watch, which means that the structure of the web-site had to be very simple and easy to use. In the layout design Lappeenrannan Voimistelijat ry wanted to use their own colors blue and white, so the whole new web-site is designed mainly by using
those two colors.
Because the customer wanted to use Joomla! -content management system for updating the web-site, was written a user manual for new users. The user manual should help them to use the web-site and Joomla! when needed. In the end, the whole project was a success and the customer was happy with

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
