Putative predictive parameters for the outcome of laparoscopic splenectomy. A multicenter analysis performed on the Italian registry of laparoscopic surgery of the spleen
Psychophysiological Features of Primary Headache: New Findings and Some Confirmation
Primary headaches are heterogeneous clinical conditions, characterized by multifactorial etiology and partially unknown eziopathogenesis.
In this study, we have investigated the psychophysiological aspects related to autonomic activation and psycho physiological stress response in
primary headache patients, in order to identify possible statistically significant relationships between psycho physiological pattern, measured by
the PPP (psycho physiological profile) , and the differential neurological diagnosis of primary headaches. The sample consisted of 68 subjects aged
between 18 and 70 years (Mean= 39,6; S.D.=12,1), who underwent continuous and simultaneous psycho physiological registration (PPP) of the
following parameters: surface electromyography (sEMG), skin conductance level/response (SCL/SCR), heart rate (HR), Inter Beat Interval (IBI)
and peripheral temperature (THE).The statistical analysis, performed using non parametric tests, since the data was non-normally distributed,
on average showed that: the whole sample reveals already in baseline, an autonomic hyper activation that continues throughout the registration;
the category of migraine with aura seems to be physiologically less activated compared to the other diagnostic categories identified. Moreover, we
did not detect significant correlations between psycho physiological pattern and clinical neurological diagnosis. In conclusion, it seems reasonably
possible to state that these clinical conditions are strongly influenced by stress reaction and management, as an important variable in the disease
pathogenesis. This typical stress reaction seems also to have an important role in the disease maintenance and/or worsening, though the strong
intra-individual variability
Nutraceuticals and migraine: further strategy for the treatment of specific conditions
Nutraceuticals might be defined as food or dietary supplements that provide medicinal or health benefits. Current preventive treatment of migraine includes nutraceuticals as well as conventional drugs. These non-pharmacological therapies, such as magnesium, coenzyme Q10, feverfew, riboflavin, and phycocyanins, are particularly useful in certain categories of patients (adolescents, pregnant or breastfeeding women, the elderly with complex drug therapy, the patient with contraindication to the usual pharmacological therapies) when a conventional drug therapy cannot be prescribed or may be not well tolerated. The evidence currently available confirms a modest efficacy but a very good safety and tolerability profile
I disturbi dell’equilibrio
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Comparison study between erenumab, fremanezumab, and galcanezumab in the preventive treatment of high frequency episodic migraine and chronic migraine
The treatment of migraine now includes the possibility of using the anti CGRP monoclonal antibodies erenumab, fremanezumab and galcanezumab. Registration studies and real life studies have shown excellent efficacy and extraordinary tolerability of these treatments. Little is known about the possible differences between the three treatments and this observational study was conducted with a view to comparing the efficacy, safety and impact that anti-CGRP monclonal antibodies have on additional parameters such as disability in social, family and work activities
Laparoscopic bilateral hand-assisted nephrectomy: end-stage renal disease from tuberculosis, an unusual indication for nephrectomy before transplantation.
The purpose of the study was to sterilize renal tuberculous foci in a pretransplantation patient with a laparoscopic hand-assisted approach and to verify the feasibility of bilateral nephrectomy for this indication. This case report is the first description of hand-assisted laparoscopic bilateral nephrectomy for this pathologic condition. The 33-year-old patient had end-stage renal disease from renal tuberculosis. A commercially available hand-assistance device was used through a midline 8-cm supraumbilical incision and with four ports. The procedure was successfully completed. The total operative time was 3 hours and 40 minutes. Estimated blood loss was 250 mL. The postoperative course was uneventful, and clinical follow-up at 3 weeks revealed a successful outcome. Hand-assisted bilateral laparoscopic nephrectomy in patients with chronic renal failure from tuberculosis represents a viable option because it is feasible and effective. The hand-assisted approach increases the safety of the procedure while retaining all the advantages of minimally invasive surgery
