Innovative and sustainable business models in the fashion industry: Entrepreneurial drivers, opportunities, and challenges
New and existing companies are looking for ways to thrive in a competitive environment with innovative business models while respecting society and avoiding actions that harm the planet. Trends such as circular economy, fair trade, lowsumerism, and sharing economy are some of the many emerging entrepreneurial approaches that address this issue, but there is still a gap between what theory argues and the levels of environmental and social sustainability realized when theory is put into practice. In fact, most research on the topic of sustainable business models is still exploratory and does not fully acknowledge these emerging approaches, whose definitions, boundaries, and defining characteristics are still somewhat vague. This study seeks to contribute to the understanding of the inner entrepreneurial dynamics of innovative sustainable business models. In particular, we focus on the fashion business, a resource-intensive industry in which opportunities to reduce environmental impacts and to innovate business models abound. The aim of our research is to investigate innovative business models in the fashion industry that have sustainability as their defining characteristic, especially in terms of value proposition. In order to do that, we combine a systematic review of the literature with empirical research comprised of six interviews with specialists in sustainability, business model innovation, and the fashion industry, along with eight case studies on innovative fashion startups we define as 'born sustainable.' As a result, we propose a synthesizing framework that discloses trends and drivers of innovative and sustainable business models in the fashion industry. We also highlight opportunities and challenges for researchers and entrepreneurs interested in this topic
This research addresses the relationship between companies and their stakeholders in the development of sustainable actions and how this relationship influences the generation of business value. In this sense, the positioning of companies has been increasingly provoked by these groups, both from already established movements, as well as by others that are still emerging, such as the ESG (environmental, social and governance) concept, which has been generating changes in companies' long-term investments. As a result, from the theories of shareholders and stakeholders and the literature on business models, this thesis seeks to understand the dynamics and factors of influence for the generation of sustainable value in the relationship with stakeholders in companies that seek to incorporate sustainability into their business model. To achieve this objective, this thesis is presented in three articles, each linked to one of the three roles of a business model: value creation, delivery and capture. The first article, focused on the value creation process, presents the dynamics between drivers and inhibiting factors for the generation of sustainable actions in the company's relationship with its value chain; the second, focused on the value capture process, assesses whether and how the incorporation of ESG factors tends to generate strategic opportunities and business value; and the third, focused on the value delivery process, seeks to understand whether companies understand the concept of value proposition, how they apply it and communicate it into their routines and whether they are able to measure its benefits. In general, the thesis is exploratory and includes methodologies such as systematic literature review, content analysis, in-depth interviews and case studies. The results indicate that the main drivers for the generation of sustainable actions together with the value chain are related to the pressures of the external environment, the search for competitive advantage and joint development of resources and capabilities. In the second article, it was identified that the theories of shareholders and stakeholders are not incompatible and that shareholders, in addition to seeking the maximum possible profit, also have a new vision of value generated by an increasingly complex business environment in relation to ESG factors. In the third article, which addressed the value delivery process, the aspects of value and the structure of business models that can influence the transition process from conventional to sustainable business were identified

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
