e-klar: Vom Nutzen der e-Learning Angebote in der Nuklearmedizin an deutschen Universitäten

    No full text
11.08.2010 | Lutz Stefan Freudenberg (Essen) & Thomas Beyer (Zürich

A cubic ordered, mesoporous carbide-derived carbon for gas and energy storage applications

Oschatz, Martin Kockrick, Emanuel Rose, Marcus Borchardt, Lars Klein, Nicole Senkovska, Irena Freudenberg, Thomas Korenblit, Yair Yushin, Gleb Kaskel, StefanA hierarchical and highly porous carbide-derived carbon (CDC) was obtained by nanocasting of pre-ceramic precursors into cubic ordered silica (KIT-6) and subsequent chlorination. Resulting CDC replica materials show high methane and n-butane uptake and excellent performance as electrode materials in supercapacitors. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

Streaming of Franking Credits Curtailed by Bamford-Induced Amendments - An Unintended Consequence?

    No full text
In 2011, the provisions providing for allocation to beneficiaries of a trust’s franked distributions and associated tax attributes (franking credit tax offsets) were amended in light of the High Court decision in Commissioner of Taxation v Bamford. The concern from Bamford was that streaming of receipts of a discretionary trust may no longer be available in light of the proportionate view interpretation of the rule that allocates the trust’s taxable income to beneficiaries. The overwhelming aim of the 2011 amendments was to cement the streaming of a trust’s franked distributions and associated tax attributes (and net capital gains) to selected beneficiaries to the exclusion of other entitled beneficiaries. However, the amended provisions prevent streaming of franking credits where the distribution is extinguished by related expenses. However, the old provisions, as confirmed in the recent Thomas v Federal Commissioner of Taxation decisions, permitted streaming in these situations.Full Tex

    The Griffith Tax Clinic

    No full text
Griffith University (Queensland) was one of 10 Australian universities chosen to be part of the 2019 National Tax Clinic Project. This project sought to expand the foundational work done by Curtin University (Western Australia) to establish student tax clinics across Australia. The objectives of these clinics were to provide greater access to justice for unrepresented taxpayers, a rich learning environment for students, and greater tax literacy for the community. The Griffith Tax Clinic opened its doors to the public in July 2019. This article reports on the experience of the Griffith Tax Clinic, in its first year of operation, and sets out key learning outcomes and recommendations gleaned from that experience.Full Tex

At What Cost: Modern Capitalism and the Future of Health (Preface)

    No full text
Freedom of choice lies at the heart of American society. Every day, individuals decide what to eat, which doctors to see, who to connect with online, and where to educate their children. Yet, many Americans don\u27t realize that these choices are illusory at best. By the start of the 21st century, every major industrial sector in the global economy was controlled by no more than five transnational corporations, and in about a third of these sectors, a single company accounted for more than 40 percent of global sales. The available options in food, healthcare, education, transportation, and even online presence are largely constructed by corporations, whose sweeping influence have made them the public face and executive agents of 21st-century capitalism. At What Cost confronts how globalization, financial speculation, monopolies, and control of science and technology have enhanced the ability of corporations and their allies to overwhelm influences of government, family, community, and faith. As corporations manipulate demand through skillful marketing and veto the choices that undermine their bottom line, free consumer choice has all but disappeared, and with it, the personal protections guarding our collective health. At What Cost argues that the world created by 21st-century capitalism is simply not fit to solve our most serious public health problems, from climate change to opioid addiction. However, author and public health expert Nicholas Freudenberg also shows that though the road is steep, human and planetary well-being constitute a powerful mobilizing idea for a new social movement, one that will restore the power of individual voice to our democracy. With impeccably detailed research and an eye towards a better future, At What Cost arms ordinary citizens, activists, and health professionals with an understanding of how we\u27ve arrived at the precipice, and what we can do to ensure a healthier collective future

    Moderne Fabriken müssen flexibel sein

    No full text
Vom 21./22.04.201
