Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Implementation of Character Strengthening and Development of Students' Critical Awareness in the Learning Process at Junior High School
This study aims to explore the implementation of character strengthening programs and the development of students' critical awareness in the learning process at the junior high school level. This study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The results revealed that the character strengthening program is implemented through extracurricular activities that focus on developing students' creativity and social skills. On the other hand, the development of students' critical awareness is integrated in a learning approach that encourages active involvement, open discussion, and the utilization of various relevant learning resources. The program has shown positive impacts, including improved social skills, critical thinking skills, and student motivation to learn. However, there are several obstacles in implementing the program, including limited time for extracurricular activities and limited supporting resources. Therefore, further efforts are needed to overcome these constraints to improve the effectiveness of the implementation of character strengthening and critical awareness programs in junior high schools
PERUBAHAN TRADISI DAN NORMA BUDAYA MASYARAKAT DAYAK DALAM NOVEL KELING KUMANG KARYA R. MASRI SAREB PUTRA
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perubahan nilai-nilai, tradisi, dan norma budaya masyarakat Dayak yang tercermin dalam novel Keling Kumang karya R. Masri Sareb Putra. Sebagai karya sastra yang merepresentasikan kehidupan masyarakat Dayak di Kalimantan, novel ini menawarkan pandangan mendalam tentang dinamika budaya di tengah modernisasi dan globalisasi. Penelitian difokuskan pada empat aspek utama: pergeseran nilai gotong royong menuju individualisme, pengaruh globalisasi terhadap penghormatan tradisi leluhur, transformasi peran perempuan dalam masyarakat patriarkal, serta adaptasi elemen modern dalam upacara adat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan meliputi analisis teks novel "Keling Kumang" untuk mengidentifikasi transformasi sastra, studi kritis dan kajian literatur tentang karya sastra lain yang relevan dan teori-teori sastra yang terkait. Melalui pendekatan analisis naratif, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa nilai-nilai tradisional masyarakat Dayak mulai tergantikan oleh pandangan modern yang lebih pragmatis. Nilai gotong royong, yang selama ini menjadi inti kehidupan komunitas, perlahan tergerus oleh semangat individualisme. Pengaruh globalisasi juga terlihat dalam sikap generasi muda yang mulai mempertanyakan relevansi tradisi leluhur. Di sisi lain, transformasi peran perempuan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kesadaran akan kesetaraan gender, meskipun masih menghadapi tantangan dari norma patriarkal. Sementara itu, upacara adat tetap menjadi simbol penting identitas budaya, meskipun mengalami penyesuaian untuk mengakomodasi elemen modern. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa novel Keling Kumang tidak hanya berperan sebagai karya sastra, tetapi juga sebagai dokumentasi sosial yang mencatat perubahan budaya masyarakat Dayak. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya sastra dalam memahami dan melestarikan identitas budaya di tengah perubahan zaman. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini berkontribusi pada kajian sastra dan budaya, khususnya dalam konteks pelestarian nilai-nilai lokal di era modern
MODEL SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING (SDL) BERBASIS KEARIFAN LOKAL DALAM PEMBELAJARAN TEKS BERITA
Perkembangan teknologi informasi dan melimpahnya arus berita digital menuntut peserta didik memiliki kemampuan literasi informasi, berpikir kritis, dan kemandirian belajar dalam memahami teks berita. Namun, pembelajaran teks berita di sekolah masih cenderung berorientasi pada penguasaan struktur dan kebahasaan, serta belum secara optimal mendorong pembelajaran mandiri dan penguatan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang model pembelajaran Self-Directed Learning (SDL) pada materi teks berita dengan mengintegrasikan kearifan lokal sebagai konteks pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui studi literatur dan sintesis teoretis terhadap konsep SDL, pembelajaran teks berita, serta integrasi kearifan lokal dalam pendidikan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan teknik content analysis terhadap literatur utama yang relevan. Hasil penelitian menghasilkan model pembelajaran SDL yang terdiri atas lima tahapan inti, yaitu kesadaran diri, manajemen diri, pemilihan strategi belajar, pelaksanaan pembelajaran, dan refleksi diri. Integrasi kearifan lokal dilakukan secara tematik dan metodologis melalui pemanfaatan sumber berita lokal, keterlibatan masyarakat sebagai sumber belajar, serta pengangkatan isu sosial dan budaya lokal sebagai konten pembelajaran teks berita. Model pembelajaran yang dirancang memberikan kerangka operasional bagi guru dalam memfasilitasi pembelajaran teks berita yang berorientasi pada penguatan literasi informasi, kemandirian belajar, dan pembentukan karakter berbasis nilai-nilai lokal. Dengan demikian, model SDL ini berpotensi menjadi alternatif inovatif dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia yang kontekstual dan relevan dengan kebutuhan peserta didi
