Geophysical surveys to investigate the Santa Filitica Archaeological Complex (Northern Sardinia).
Use of integrated geophysical methods to investigate a coastal archaeological site: the Sant’Imbenia roman villa (northern Sardinia, Italy)
We report here a multimethod geophysical investigation of the Sant'Imbenia Roman villa archaeological site in northern Sardinia (Italy). The main objective of this study is optimizing a non-invasive approach to reconstruct rapidly the geometry of coastal sites. A hitherto unexplored area of approximately 700 m2, adjacent to excavations, was investigated using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) surveys. The Sant'Imbenia villa is close to the present-day shoreline and subject to very high erosion rates and burial. A comparison of the high-resolution GPR and ERT models was made, and their integrated results are discussed in terms of providing a more complete picture that would not be attainable using a single method. Geophysical analysis combined with archeological prospecting has revealed buried buildings north of the excavated part of the archaeological site. The results show that in this coastal environment ERT survey provided the most accurate reconstruction at the deeper wet levels of investigation

Dopo un’interruzione di dieci anni, nel mese di settembre 2014 sono riprese le indagini di scavo presso il sito di Santa Filitica (Sorso-SS), di cui sono noti i resti di una villa romana con edificio termale annesso, di un abitato di fine V-VI secolo e di un villaggio di età bizantina.
Nell’ambito di un Progetto tra Università degli studi di Sassari, Soprintendenza Archeologia della Sardegna e Comune di Sorso s’intende mettere in luce l’estensione del villaggio suddetto, in parte suggerita dai risultati delle recenti prospezioni geofisiche condotte con GPR e metodo elettrico.
Per una lettura coerente del contesto pluristratificato di Santa Filitica un contributo importante è offerto dal rilievo planimetrico mediante laser scanner 3D e la conseguente ricostruzione virtuale delle strutture
Prospecting for clay minerals within volcanic successions: application of electrical resistivity tomography to characterise bentonite deposits in northern Sardinia (Italy)
Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) is applied to prospect for and characterise a bentonitic clay deposit in
northern Sardinia. Sardinian bentonites derived from the hydrothermal alteration of thick successions of
pyroclastic flows and epiclastites are associated with the Oligo-Miocene calc-alkaline volcanic cycle. The alteration
of these rocks is generally controlled by faults that control the local circulation of hydrothermal fluids.
Two-dimensional ERT investigations were performed close to a faulted area to define the location, thickness
and lateral continuity of the clayey body, and determine how it relates to faulting and stratigraphy. A linebased
three-dimensional ERT data acquisition was carried out in a selected area to estimate the available clay
reserves. The reliability of these resistivity models was assessed by comparison with local borehole data. Finally,
the interpretation of the ERT results was optimised through synthetic modelling of the electrical resistivity
imaging technique. The results define the extent and geometry of the bentonitic deposit with good accuracy
and outline the scenarios where the ERTmethodmay provide optimal resultswhen prospecting for clay deposits

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
