It is the first document of its kind that systematically addresses the vital aspects of STE yield assessment and lists minimum requirements for high quality yield assessment. In the future, the guideline main document will be supported by a number of working documents which provide more details on modeling approaches

    Molten salt based nanofluids based on solar salt and alumina nanoparticles: An industrial approach

    Publisher Copyright: © 2017 Author(s).Thermal Energy Storage (TES) and its associated dispatchability is extremely important in Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants since it represents the main advantage of CSP technology in relation to other renewable energy sources like photovoltaic (PV). Molten salts are used in CSP plants as a TES material because of their high operational temperature and stability of up to 600°C. Their main problems are their relative poor thermal properties and energy storage density. A simple cost-effective way to improve the thermal properties of molten salts is to dope them with nanoparticles, thus obtaining the so-called salt-based nanofluids. Additionally, the use of molten salt based nanofluids as TES materials and Heat Transfer Fluid (HTF) has been attracting great interest in recent years. The addition of tiny amounts of nanoparticles to the base salt can improve its specific heat as shown by different authors1-3. The application of these nano-enhanced materials can lead to important savings on the investment costs in new TES systems for CSP plants. However, there is still a long way to go in order to achieve a commercial product. In this sense, the improvement of the stability of the nanofluids is a key factor. The stability of nanofluids will depend on the nature and size of the nanoparticles, the base salt and the interactions between them. In this work, Solar Salt (SS) commonly used in CSP plants (60% NaNO3 + 40% KNO3 wt.) was doped with alumina nanoparticles (ANPs) at a solid mass concentration of 1% wt. at laboratory scale. The tendency of nanoparticles to agglomeration and sedimentation is tested in the molten state by analyzing their size and concentration through the time. The specific heat of the nanofluid at 396 °C (molten state) is measured at different times (30 min, 1 h, 5 h). Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms of agglomeration. A good understanding of the interactions between the nanoparticle surface and the ionic media would provide the tools to avoid agglomeration and sedimentation.We also want to show our gratitude to the STAGE-STE project under the 7th Framework programme and the European Commission for giving us the opportunity to meet Luis Guerreiro from University of Evora and making this collaboration possible.     ABSTRACTBackgroud: Ultrashort time echo (UTE) is a pulse sequence that aims to detect signals from tissues with short T2 values using TE values smaller than conventional TE on T1WI, whereas the TE in UTE ranges from 0,07 ms to 10 ms. This study aimed to determine the differences of anatomical information by using T1WI TSE STE and T1WI TSE UTE on knee MRI examination, so later on this research it will be known which image weighting produce the most optimal image information, therefore the author wanted to study it further and compile it in scientific papers titled " The Anatomical Information Differences Between The Application Of Short TE (STE) And Ultrashot TE (UTE) On Knee MRI (A Comparative Study On Knee MRI Images With T1WI Turbo Spin Echo (TSE)).Methods: This study is quantitative study with experimental approach. It was conducted at Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Badung (Badung General Hospital), Bali. The data are T1WI TSE images of knee MRI in sagittal slices from 30 patients each from the application of Short TE (STE) and Ultrashort TE (UTE). The data assessment was done by two respondents and the analysis was done by Wilcoxon sign rank test.     Prediction of gas leakage and dispersion in utility tunnels based on CFD-EnKF coupling model: A 3D full-scale application

    Natural gas compartment accommodated in utility tunnels is beneficial in meeting the pressing demand of energy supply and sustainable urban environment. However, the leaking gas characterized by flammable and explosive can pose a huge threat to the safe operation of the utility tunnel. When an unexpected gas leakage accident happens in the actual situation, the prior information associated with the leakage source is commonly unclear or unknown. Therefore, the absence of an available tool for reasonable leakage and dispersion prediction in the above scenario precludes the timely and appropriate emergency response treatment. In this study, a three-dimensional source term estimation (3D-STE) model with the combination of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) algorithm is proposed to achieve spatiotemporal gas concentration prediction and gas emission source estimation. In the proposed approach, the observation data can be incorporated into the gas dispersion simulations continuously, thus the simulation results can be revised by the observation data and the source term estimation of gas leakage can be achieved by employing the EnKF algorithm. A twin experiment is employed to validate the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed model. The results show that the proposed model can revise the prior errors in the gas leakage rate significantly and obtain an accurate prediction of gas concentration distribution as well as gas leakage rate. A feasible framework is also proposed serving as a good paradigm for the 3D-STE model application.     BI-IEnKF coupling model for effective source term estimation of natural gas leakage in urban utility tunnels

    As an effective way to facilitate the increasing demand for reliable infrastructure, energy supply and sustainable urban development, underground utility tunnels have been developed rapidly in recent years. Due to the widespread distribution of utility tunnels, the safe operation of natural gas pipelines accommodated in utility tunnels has caused great concern considering fire, explosion, and other coupling consequences induced by the gas pipeline leakage. However, the limited information on leakage source terms in accidental leakage scenarios could preclude timely consequence assessment and effective emergency response. In this study, a BI-IEnKF coupling source term estimation (STE) model is developed, with the combination of gas dispersion model, Bayesian inference (BI) and iterative ensemble Kalman filter (IEnKF) method, to achieve the effective source term estimation (including leakage location and leakage rate) and gas concentration distribution prediction. The newly developed model is first evaluated by the twin experiment with good reliability and accuracy. Furthermore, three contributing factors affecting the performance of the developed BI-IEnKF coupling STE model were investigated to assist parameter selection for practical use. Additionally, the novel application of mobile sensors serving as an alternative for fixed sensors is explored, and an application framework is sequentially given to guide the deployment of the developed coupling model in utility tunnels. The results show that the developed model has great performance in accuracy, efficiency and robustness, as well as the potential to be applied in actual utility tunnel scenarios. This study can provide technical supports for safety control and emergency response in the case of natural gas pipeline leakage accidents in utility tunnels. All authors have read and agreed to the published version of the manuscript.Echocardiographic assessment of the right ventricle is helpful for analysing the pathophysiology of heartworm disease and detecting pulmonary hypertension (PH) in dogs. In veterinary cardiology, the study of myocardial deformation using two-dimensional speckle tracking (2D-STE) echocardiography has become increasingly acknowledged as useful for quantifying right ventricular function. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of myocardial deformation strain of the right ventricular free wall (FWS), global deformation strain of the right ventricle, including the interventricular septum (GS), and tissue motion annular displacement of the tricuspid valve (TMAD) in a cohort of dogs with heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) disease and to determine cut-off values for detecting the presence of PH. Out of the 93 dogs tested, 71% were diagnosed with heartworm infection. PH was identified in 41% of the infected dogs following the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) guidelines, based on the peak tricuspid regurgitation velocity to calculate the tricuspid regurgitation pressure gradient (TRPG), while other routine measurements were used, including the right pulmonary artery distensibility index (RPADi). The 2D-STE mode measurements were determined using Right Ventricular Automated Function Imaging (RV AFI®) software. The statistical analysis showed significant differences in the studied parameters among dogs with and without PH. Additionally, sensitivity (sen) and specificity (sp) cut-off values were obtained (GS ≥ −21.25%, sen 96%, sp 86.4%; FWS ≥ −21.95%, sen 92.56%, sp 95.5%; TMAD ≤ 0.85 cm, sen 70.4%, sp 83.3%). These results demonstrated that GS, FWS, and TMAD could be used as supplementary and alternative variables to conventional echocardiographic measurements when detecting PH in dogs with heartworm disease.Simple Summary: The development of new echocardiographic techniques, such as two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography and assessment of longitudinal myocardial deformation, may be new alternative tools to analyse the presence and severity of pulmonary hypertension in heartworm disease. A total of 93 dogs were used, of which 71% were diagnosed with heartworm infection and 41% were found to have PH. The measurements evaluated were obtained using Right Ventricular Automated Function Imaging (RV AFI®) software. The results showed significant differences between animals with and without pulmonary hypertension. Cut-off values with high sensitivity and specificity were also obtained for the detection of pulmonary hypertension in the animals analysed. Op het voorloopig reisprogramma stonden aanvankelijk alleen de werken van het New-York State Barge-kanaal, de kanalisatie van de Ohio en zijrivieren, terwijl was gedacht aan de mogelijkheid een bezoek aan de sluis in de Mississippi te Keokuk en de Amerikaansche sluizen in den scheepvaartweg der groote meren te Sault Ste Marie. Dit reisplan werd later bovendien nog uitgestrekt tot de Canadeesche sluis te Sault Ste Marie en de sluizen in het Welland-kanaal, terwijl ten slotte ook het Chicago Drainage-kanaal werd bezocht. Daarnaast zijn de werken in het Panamakanaal bezocht
