Wiederholtes Weltende in anderen Breitengraden. Neapel in Franz Werfels Zeit- und Familienroman Die Geschwister von Neapel
In The Pascarella Family, Franz Werfel’s family novel about the Neapolitansociety of the late 1920s, it is actually not Napoli that prevailsbut Italy more generally, according to the author himself who commentedhis work in an interview in 1931. This assessment confirmsthe problematical status of Napoli which, although physically in theforeground, quite vanishes in the background on a symbolic level.Whereas the capital of Campania appears along with the main charactersin the original German title (Die Geschwister von Neapel) andconstitutes the framework and scenery of almost every chapter inWerfel’s novel, the heterogeneity in the perception and representationof the town gives rise to mixed feelings in the reader, who is hence justified in questioning Werfel’s relationship to Napoli and attendant issuessuch as modernity, tradition or tourism. Our analysis of the wayNapoli has been depicted by Werfel, or rather by his characters (themembers of the Pascarella family), should help understand why Italysignificantly prevails over Napoli in his literary attempt of re-presenting(that is showing once again) the fall of a world similar to whatWerfel experienced less than 20 years earlier with the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and what this changing of places and latitudes(from Austria to Southern Italy) eventually implicates in his eyes
Traduire et éditer Rainer Maria Rilke sous l’Occupation
International audienceThis paper aims at analysing the visibility of Rainer Maria Rilke and some of his worksin French translation within the literary and editorial field during the German occupation of France(1940-1944). On the basis of reflections about Rilke’s reception under National Socialism and aneditorial inventory it will be intended to investigate the context in which some translations emergedand question the meaning and symbolic dimension that is to be given to them in an ideologicalperiod basically characterized by suspicion. It will be thereby necessary to become aware of the needof a method including discourses on translations’ genesis and translators’ biographies and thenecessity of identifying and understanding the risk of overinterpretation, misinterpretation andconfusion researchers have to get over.
International audienceThe aim of the present paper is to provide an insight into the way German authorities in charge of cultural policy (German Embassy, German Institutes in Paris and on the whole French territory) in occupied France during WW II tried, with the help of French collaborationists from the educational sphere, to set up an event of remembrance policies around the hundredth anniversary of Friedrich Hölderlin’s death in 1943. After an overview of the Hölderlinian celebrations in France during this year we intend to identify the different publications and actors which had a hand in this centenary and find out the function assumed by translation in the whole phenomenon.
History of the (re-)translations and (re-)translators of Rainer Maria Rilke's poetry in the French-speaking areas
Indeed, Berman’s method integrates as well a macroscopic and individual history of translations as an analysis of texts, considering their peripheral features (paratexts, translation projects, etc.). In the first part, we will depict through a historical panorama the import of Rilke’s poetry in French, from the first versions of the early 20th century to the latest translations of the Duino Elegies. We will thereby give heed to the identity of the different (re-)translators and to the general horizon of their translations. In the second part, we will compare several French versions of the first Duino Elegy, Rilke’s most retranslated poetical opus in French. Through various criteria dealing with form and sense, it will be a question of comprehending what these translations bring and the kind of bond holding them together. We intend eventually to find out whether the sociocultural behaviors we noticed in the first part are also observable in the practices of the Duinesian (re-)translators

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
