Key Words, Speaking, Self Assessment This study attempts to improve students’ ability in speaking skill through self assessment technique at the third semester in English department students of STAIN Palopo. There was one research question that discussed, it is how is the good way in improve speaking ability toward the third semester in English department students of STAIN Palopo, especially class C. This research was done through descriptive research, it was held in the questionnaire. This research took place in the third semester class C students of STAIN Palopo that consisted of 27 students in the classroom. To apply the self assessment, researcher presented one opinion of Self Assessment. Researchers explained to students about the learning process use self assessment technique, then the process is done in a tests called self assessment test. After doing the test the research finding that the positive response are biggest than negative response. The research result showed the positive response or “yes” answer is biggest than negative response or “no” answer, by the result from the research the researcher suggested to the English teacher in order to improve the students speaking skill by using many kinds technique. It was in order that students feel not bored by what given to them. And she also had to stay giving motivation for them in order to keep spirit in learning English

    merupakan sumber data prediksi yang dihasilkan dari satelit. NASA POWER memiliki beberapa jenis data, seperti data curah hujan, radiasi, dan data untuk keperluan agroklimatologi. Di Indonesia, penggunaan NASA POWER harus dinilai terlebih dahulu sebelum digunakan secara luas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi penggunaan NASA POWER di wilayah Jakarta-Bogor. Dalam penelitian ini, data NASA POWER dievaluasi dengan data curah hujan titik di wilayah Jakarta - Bogor. Di Jakarta, 3 stasiun dipilih yaitu Soekarno-Hatta, Kemayoran dan Tanjung Priok untuk mewakili ketinggian rendah, sedangkan dua stasiun di Bogor Citeko dan Bogor dapat mewakili lintang tinggi. Evaluasi didasarkan pada kriteria statistik yaitu Uji Kolasi, MAE, RMSE dan Mann-Whitney. Setiap hari, korelasi antara kedua curah hujan rendah (r = 0,19), tetapi korelasi yang lebih tinggi diharapkan untuk bulanan (r = 0,8894) dan tahunan ( r = 0,7921) dasar. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan POWER NASA harus diperbaiki terlebih dahulu untuk penggunaan sehari-hari

    Information about highflow frequency and its magnitude is needed for sustainable watershed management. The objectives of this research were to determine highflow threshold and to analyse highflow frequency of Ciujung, Brantas and Bengawan Solo river basin. Long term daily streamflow data were analysed using annual maximum series (AMS) and partial duration series (PDS). Exceedence frequency 5% was chosen as highflow threshold. Based on the threshold, return period of highflow from PDS and AMS was compared. Analysis result showed highflow threshold values of Bengawan Solo, Brantas and Ciujung watershed were 1,304 m3/s, 668 m3/s and 298 m3/s respectively. Log Pearson Type III was used to estimate highflow values at greater return periods. The plotting position of AMS showed smaller discharge than PDS at the same return period. While data analysis showed AMS discharge in various return period tend to be greater than PD

    Evapotranspiration can be assessed by empirical models. The models of evapotranspiration developed in many subtropical regions. The objective of this research is to modify different reference evapotranspiration (ET0) models i.e. Hargreaves, Makkink and Priestley-Taylor in the tropics. The model of FAO-56 Penman-Monteith (FAO-56 PM) is used as a reference to estimates ET0. Models tested in Sukamandi and Ngablak with different elevations. Optimization methods was performed to obtain a new constant with a minimum error. The results showed that Hargreaves has a good estimation performance with a low error in Sukamandi and Ngablak. However, after the parameters optimization process, Makkink and Priestley-Taylor has a good performance in both study area. The results also showed that the performance of the models after modification are increased

    Hydrological drought is a condition of water below normal and also a propagation of meteorological drought. The objectives of this study are to determine the thresholds level, to analyse drought characteristics, and to analyse frequency of hydrological drought in Ciujung, Brantas, and Bengawan Solo River basins. In this study, the hydrological droughts were identified by threshold level method. The 80-percentile (Q80) from flow duration curve was used to determined the threshold (Q0). The study reveals that the threshold of Ciujung, Brantas, and Bengawan Solo River basins 17.6 m3s-1, 73.1 m3s-1, dan 46 m3s-1, respectively. Minimum duration (dmin) amounting to 10 days was the criterion of hydrological drought events. Maximum durations of each river basin amounting to 134 days, 150 days, and 167 days, respectively, and maximum deficit volumes amounting to 153.789 x 106 m3, 501.824 x 106 m3, 495.853 x 106 m3, respectively. Bengawan Solo has the highest frequency of number of droughts which have duration more above 100 days than another

    Hutan gambut sekunder merupakan tipe ekosistem yang sangat rentan terhadap gangguan, dan kini keberadaannya telah terdegradasi akibat kebakaran berulang. Hutan yang rusak akibat kebakaran dapat pulih kembali melalui proses suksesi. Kemampuan pemulihan pada ekosistem rawa gambut tergolong rendah, khususnya pada wilayah yang telah mengalami kebakaran berulang. Informasi mengenai dampak kebakaran berulang terhadap kemampuan pemulihan vegetasi sangat diperlukan untuk perencanaan kegiatan rehabilitasi serta perencanaan prioritas pengelolaan kebakaran. Saat ini, pemanfaatan teknologi penginderaan jauh dapat membantu memonitor pertumbuhan vegetasi di lahan bekas kebakaran. Monitoring pertumbuhan vegetasi pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan beberapa indeks spektral berdasarkan citra multi-temporal. Tiga indeks spektral yang digunakan antara lain Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI), dan Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR) untuk mengidentifikasi perubahan dalam pertumbuhan vegetasi pada sebelum dan sesudah kebakaran periode 1997-2019. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan platform Google Earth Engine, ArcMap dan bahasa pemrograman R. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa indeks tersebut sangat efektif sebagai alat untuk memonitor pertumbuhan vegetasi pada hutan gambut. NDVI efektif untuk mendeteksi pemulihan dan pertumbuhan vegetasi sedangkan NBR sangat efektif untuk mengidentifikasi riwayat peristiwa kebakaran. Analisis data menunjukkan bahwa frekuensi kebakaran dan tingkat keparahan kebakaran hutan dapat mempengaruhi respon vegetasi untuk tumbuh kembali. Kedepannya diharapkan penelitian ini dapat memberi informasi megenai respon vegetasi terhadap kebakaran berulang dapat bermanfaat bagi pembuat kebijakan untuk kegiatan restorasi dan rehabilitasi lahan gambut mendatang

    Land cover over West Kalimantan consists of forests, swamps mixed with peat, shrubs, and reeds. Field data of 2009 indicate that hotspots in the region mostly observed from May to August 2009. The largest number of hotspots indicate that region has great potential for experiencing forest fires. Impact of forest fires causes financial losses of local as well as non-local regions. The negative impact of forest fires can be minimized by makes plans of forest fire control, whereas the plan can be made easier if the level of fire danger could be known earlier. Keetch Byram Drought Index system is a popular system which is used to determine the rate of danger of forest fire in West Kalimantan. Calculation of this index only requires observational data of daily rainfall and daily maximum temperature. When a larger value of KBDI prevails, the potential of forest fires increases. On the other hand, when the value of KBDI is small, the probability of forest fire becomes less. Probability of forest fire in 2010 may be estimated fire danger rating using the previous data period. The average daily maximum value of KBDI in 1990 until 2009 show that West Kalimantan has a relative high level of fire danger. Region around Supadio and Sintang weather stations reach an extreme class value

    Water availability is one of the limiting factors for growth and production of palm oil. Water conservation technique is one of the efforts that is used to anticipate and cope the effects of drought at the time before, during, and after the wet season so that rainfall can be absorbed into the soil as much as possible. This research was conducted to dertemine the effect of water conservation technique to increase water in palm oil plantation by measuring soil water contents in treatment and control blocks using soil moisture sensors. Water conservation technique by making rorak (ditch) in palm oil plantation have a significant impact in improving water availability and increase the ability of soil to hold water longer. Average soil moisture content in the treatment block was larger than the control block, 15.3 and 6.4 % volume for the depth of 0 cm - 100 cm, and 25.9 and 7.5% volume for the depth of 100 cm - 200 cm, respectivelyKetersediaan air merupakan salah satu faktor pembatas utama bagi pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman kelapa sawit. Teknik konservasi air merupakan salah satu upaya yang digunakan untuk mengantisipasi dan menanggulangi dampak kekeringan pada saat sebelum, selama dan setelah musim hujan agar curah hujan dapat diserapkan secara maksimal ke dalam tanah. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik konservasi air dalam meningkatkan ketersediaan air di perkebunan kelapa sawit dengan cara pengukuran kadar air tanah pada blok perlakuan dan blok kontrol di perkebunan kelapa sawit menggunakan sensor kadar air tanah. Teknik konservasi air berupa rorak di perkebunan kelapa sawit memberikan pengaruh untuk meningkatkan ketersediaan air dan kemampuan tanah dalam menyimpan air lebih lama. Kadar air tanah rata-rata pada blok perlakuan lebih besar daripada blok kontrol, yaitu masing-masing sebesar 15.3 dan 6.4% volume pada kedalaman 0 cm – 100 cm, 25.9 dan 7.5% volume pada kedalaman 100 cm - 200 cm
