Geology of Mo Tat Wan
A study has been conducted on the southwest and northeast coasts of Mo Tat Wan on Lamma Island. The purposes of this was to examine the different lithologies of Mo Tat
Wan to determine their relative ages, investigate geological structures by examining kinetic indicators to determine the directions of fault movements and to construct the geological evolutions over the area. Field mapping and microscopic analysis was from February, 2016 to acquire the data to produce a set of 1:1,000-scale inferred geological maps detailing the relative age relationship between lithologies and locations of geological structures. Key findings are that the estimated width of quartz monzonite and the configuration basaltic andesite dyke located at the southwest coast of Mo Tat Wan are somewhat different from what have been annotated in the 1:20,000-scale HKGS Geological Map Sheet 15 (GEO, 2010). For the aspects related to geological structures, the nature and characteristics of kinematic indicators reveal that the past deformations were brittle to semi-brittle with both sinistral and dextral movements. A post-shearing emplacement of mafic dyke was noted with the infilling of mafic materials into the tension gashes observed at the southwestern coast of Mo Tat Wan. The “autobrecciation” (Strange and Shaw, 1986) of quartzphyric rhyolite dyke located at the northeastern coast of Mo Tat Wan (approximately 80 m southeast to the Mo Tat Wan Public Ferry Pier) was observed to be about 3 m wide and the brecciation zone with deformed quartz crystal was likely to be associated with a NW-SE striking fault.published_or_final_versionApplied GeosciencesMasterMaster of Scienc
Chinese literary works translated into Baba Malay: a bibliographical study
Analyses 68 unique titles of Baba translated works published between 1889 and 1950. The titles are held in the libraries of the University of Malaya (UM), Science University Malaysia (USM), National University of Malaysia (UKM), the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), National University of Singapore (NUS), National Library of Singapore (NLS) and the British Library (BL). The results reveal three periods of active publication of Baba translated works. A total of 18 works were translated before World War I, followed by 10 just after the war, 39 titles were published before the break of the World War II and 1 was identified in 1950. There were 103 persons involved in the 68 translated works, some of whom are responsible for more than one title. The most prominent translators were Chan Kim Boon, Wan Boon Seng, Seow Chin San and Lee Seng Poh. Some of the translators were also be editors, illustrators or editors. There were 31 publishers and 21 printing presses involved, all were located in Singapore. The most active publishers were Wan Boon Seng, Kim Seck Chy Press and Nanyang Romanised Malay Book Co. The translated works mainly cover historical classical Chinese stories, chivalrous stories, romances, folklore and legends. The titles were priced between 10 cents to 2 dollars in Straits currency. The University of Malaya Library held the largest number of unique title (62) out of which 15 were unique titles
Dato\u27 Loke Wan Tho
HOW often does one find a poetry-loving film and cinema magnate, philanthropist, respected ornithologist and shutterbug all rolled in one? One such unlikely individual was born to a famous millionaire father, went to the Victoria Institution (VI) back in the twenties and owned a company that was a famous brand name to the moviegoers of the fifties and sixties. Loke Wan Tho was born on 14th June 1915, the ninth of eleven children of Towkay Loke Yew, one of the founders of the school. His father, a self-made millionaire and household name in Malaya at that time, died when he was not yet three. Wan Tho\u27s education was at the old V.I., at the original building in High Street. By the time he was thirteen, while still in school, Wan Tho was already, through his trustees, head of the Loke family. The exact year when he joined the VI is not known but a reasonable guess would be 1922, the final year of the School\u27s first headmaster, Mr B E Shaw. Not much is known of his VI activities except that Wan Tho was a Patrol Leader in the Scouts and it is recorded that he was on
duty one March afternoon in 1929 when the present VI building was opened amidst great pomp and ceremony. (Copied from article)

Teachers’ experiences in the implementation of 21st century learning in national primary schools / Jane Chee Wan Zhen
The current implementation of 21st century learning by educators is only moderate, adversely impacting educational quality. This mediocrity stems from various factors, including pedagogical deficiencies, decreased motivation, limited professional development, inadequate support and time constraints. Understanding the perceptions and experiences of teachers is crucial as prior research has identified teachers’ beliefs as significant predictive variables of their 21st century teaching abilities and attitudes, which subsequently influence the implementation process and student success. Therefore, this study aims to understand the perceptions and experiences of teachers in the implementation of 21st century learning in public primary schools and how these experiences give meaning to the teachers. Through the three data collection techniques, which included interviews, journal writing entries and document analysis, a phenomenological qualitative study was conducted to investigate the phenomenon and its impact on the 10 teachers selected from Public Primary Schools based on their 21st century teaching experiences. The data collected was then coded using thematic analysis to identify the themes present in the teachers’ perceptions and experiences. According to the research findings, the teachers have comprehended the purpose of 21st century learning, which involves the student-centred education of knowledge, competencies and skills to prepare students for the future, its significance in fostering holistic learning in students by enabling effective and meaningful learning, and their roles and responsibilities in mastering 21st century teaching techniques to ensure quality education. Despite poor working conditions, teachers have sought countermeasures and formed positive beliefs, leading to increased interest, motivation, and competencies. Consequently, this served as a greater incentive for them to overcome their challenges. The meaningful experiences have also promoted positive feelings and enhanced their personal and professional growth. Their self-improvement efforts have resulted in a better quality of life and a renewed sense of purpose, to produce competent students for further education and the workforce, as well as global success. However, Continuous professional development programs on student management and other support measures are necessary, as the implementation of 21st century learning among teachers is still at a moderate level. In conclusion, understanding the perceptions and experiences of teachers has proven crucial for the successful integration of 21st century learning, as these factors act as determiners of their professional competencies and student outcomes

Revisiting the Mitra-Wan Tree Farm.
The tree-farm model of T. Mitra and H. Wan (1985) contains novelties: a continuum of optimal cycles appear for small discounting and the cyclicality survives perturbations. To isolate the source of novelties, the author studies the simplest case: trees live naturally for two periods. This model specializes the general theory of multisector development under four conditions. It becomes a Ramsey type model, augmented by a cross-vintage constraint: the present acreage under trees, age n, must not be less than the acreage under trees age n + 1, one period hence. Novelties emerge when this constraint bounds the graph of the state-to-control correspondence. Expression of tumor-associated trypsinogens (TAT-1 and TAT-2) in prostate cancer
BACKGROUND. Trypsinogens are pancreatic serine proteinases and expressed in several cancers as tumor-associated trypsinogens (TAT). Trypsin mediates activation of pro-uPA and pro-MMPs, thus promoting angiogenesis and tumor invasion. Recently, we described expression of TAT in the human male genital tract and now we studied TAT in relation to PSA in PCa. METHODS. TAT expression was studied by immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, RT-PCR, DNA-sequencing and IFMA. LNCaP cells were used to study secretion of TAT and PSA after androgen stimulation. RESULTS. Immunoreactive TAT was localized in all prostatic tumors (n = 109), lymph node (n = 16), and bone metastases (n = 17). Immunostaining intensity increased with higher Gleason's grade, whereas PSA immunostaining decreased significantly. PSA and TAT were not identically distributed in benign and malignant cells. Androgen stimulation of LNCaP cells decreased secretion of TAT and increased that of PSA. TAT mRNA was demonstrated in tissue sections and identified as TAT-1 and -2 by RT-PCR and DNA-sequencing. CONCLUSIONS. Expression of TAT is better preserved than PSA in high-grade PCa. Expression of TAT and PSA is regulated by different mechanisms as demonstrated in tissue sections and in vitro. Locally produced TAT may act in a paracrine mode to promote angiogenesis and tumor invasion in PCa by both activating and degrading of other proteinases. Further studies on the role of TAT in invasive PCa and on the mechanisms involved in the regulation of TAT expression are warranted. © 2005 Wiley-Liss, Inc
