Gyrofluid simulations of collisionless reconnection in the presence of diamagnetic effects

    No full text
International audienceThe effects of the ion Larmor radius on magnetic reconnection are investigated by means of numerical simulations, with a Hamiltonian gyrofluid model. In the linear regime, it is found that ion diamagnetic effects decrease the growth rate of the dominant mode. Increasing ion temperature tends to make the magnetic islands propagate in the ion diamagnetic drift direction. In the nonlinear regime, diamagnetic effects reduce the final width of the island. Unlike the electron density, the guiding center density does not tend to distribute along separatrices and at high ion temperature, the electrostatic potential exhibits the superposition of a small scale structure, related to the electron density, and a large scale structure, related to the ion guiding-center density

Sui concetti di populus e publicus in Etruria. Nuovi elementi di riflessione sul rapporto *[s]pura -*ra[s]na.

The contribution aims to analyze the existent relationship between the concepts expressed by the Etruscan terms *[s]pura and ra[s]na, considered to these days pretty much equivalent regarding the semantic sphere of the «public», and to verify in a more punctual way their use in the Etruscan documentation, then comparing them to the Roman concepts of publicus and populus

Stock-bond correlation and the bond quality ratio: Removing the discount factor to generate a “deflated” stock index

This paper investigates the cyclical co-movements between US stocks and interest rates by testing a simple model where divergence between stock and bond price behavior is explained by “stock market strength,” where the latter depends on the market climate about future corporate profits—as captured by the corporate bond quality ratio—and an unexplained stock market sentiment. Using two different regression techniques to check for robustness, we find evidence of a statistically significant cyclical correlation between stocks and bonds. On the basis of this finding, we then present a methodology to “deflate” a stock price index such that we can compare stock market strength over time. This is obtained by removing the effect of a changing discount rate—as measured by our regressions—on stock prices. For example, viewed in this light, the past five years in the US stock market reveal a wider fluctuation in stock market strength than we can observe on the basis of stock price indices alone.Stock-bond correlation, Market sentiment, Stock price.

Aminophosphonite-phosphite and aminophosphonite-phosphinite ligands with mixed chirality: preparation and catalytic applications in asymmetric hydrogenation and hydroformylation

    No full text
Aminophosphonite-phosphite and aminophosphonite-phosphinite chiral ligands with mixed stereogenic elements have been prepared in good yields from chiral α-aminoalcohols such as 2-(hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidine and 2-N-ethylammino-1-butanol. These new ligands have been fully characterized; the Rh(I) complexes have been tested in catalytic hydrogenation and hydroformylation reactions. Enantioselectivities up to 70% have been obtained in asymmetric hydrogenation of α-acetamidocinnamic acid, methyl ester; enantioselectivities higher than 30% and regioselectivities higher than 98% have been obtained in asymmetric hydroformylation of vinyl acetate
