Design and Optimization of an Animal-Inspired Vision System: Leveraging Vertical Pupil Dynamics for Enhanced Focus and Natural Blurring Shudha Tasnim Iqbal School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology
Biological vision systems offer powerful design inspiration for artificial optics. Ver- tical pupils, found in species such as cats and crocodiles, enable precise focus on spe- cific regions while naturally blurring peripheral areas, enhancing depth perception and camouflage detection. Meanwhile, the horizontal visual streak, as seen in alligators, enhances edge clarity along the horizontal axis by concentrating photoreceptors in a narrow retinal band. This research presents a compact, lightweight two-lens optical system that fuses both features: a vertical pupil aperture for depth cueing and target isolation, and a horizontal streak-inspired enhancement for improved edge detection and image detail. Unlike circular pupils, vertical apertures pose unique optical challenges such as uneven light distribution and increased astigmatism, which are addressed through strategic lens design. The proposed system shows strong potential in UAV-based applications, particu- larly where high-detail imaging and precise object detection are critical—such as in crop monitoring, structural inspection, accident detection, and security surveillance. By mimicking these complementary biological adaptations, the lens system achieves selective, detail-rich imaging without mechanical complexity, offering a novel pathway for intelligent vision in both aerial and ground-based platforms.|생물학적시각시스템은인공광학설계를위한강력한영감을제공합니다. MasterAbstract (English) i

Company analysis: IKEA company / Tasnim Bt Mahamod
IKEA first opened a store in Malaysia in 1996, at the 1Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. In 2003, the Swedish furniture conglomerate opened Malaysia's first blue-box store in Mutiara Damansara. According to Bakker, all IKEA stores in Malaysia are in the top 50 out of more than 400 IKEA stores worldwide in terms of visitation. Ingvar Kamprad founded IKEA in 1953 as a mail order catalogue business in the forested town of lmhult, Sweden. Today, it is a global home furnishings brand that provides people all over the world with affordability, design, and comfort. In this study, I was afforded the opportunity to conduct research on a company that manufactured the same product that I wanted to develop. Despite the fact that this company produces a wide range of products, I'd like to focus on their outdoor products. The product that I want to create is outdoor organising, which is a plant rack with additional functions that can be used in any type of home. In addition, I conducted an analysis of an IKEA product, a plant rack, to determine its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. According to the SWOT analysis, some weaknesses include the rack only being available in a single size, having fewer colour options, staining the floor or balcony, and having the potential to increase the rate of mosquito breeding. These drawbacks inspire me to create a new product to address these issues. I propose using a stainless steel container and a reservoir water rate sensor to alert users to the amount of water in the reservoir container. If they are successful in producing this product, it will be unique in comparison to other companies
